How to navigate NVT's website

Gerri walks through the NVT website tools: use the interactive map to find trials by region and year, then click a trial to access six options including 5-year yield results, current trial PDFs with soil data, downloadable tables, disease ratings, and sowing guides. A second video covers how to read the long-term yield information.

The NVT website was recently upgraded, so today I'm going to demonstrate how to navigate your way through the site and find some of its main features. The interactive Google Maps search tool will help you find trial results at a site near you. There are over 700 NVT trials conducted annually, so there should be something nearby. You can dive straight in by clicking on the arrow or fill out the parameters to refine your search filters. Today I'm going to select Birchip in 2018 hit the go arrow and it will zoom in to that region selected. Looking at the search tool legend we can see the array of crops tested in NVT and also the icons to look out for for unreleased trials or trials still in the system but under review. They'll be represented by the icon with the exclamation marks or the greyed out trial. For those under review, I'm going to zoom into the Mallee region and look for trials around Burchip. A number icon will show the trials in that area and at Birchip There are nine trials conducted in 2018. I'm going to select the main season week trial. I'm then presented with a pop up balloon with six different options. The first of those is the long term yield results. This is a preferred method for viewing yield predictions in the NVT system as it uses data from across five years at multiple locations in a very complex analysis. A second video in this series will show more information on this. The next item in the pop up window is a link to the current trial results. This button will open up a PDF with all the relevant information from the Birchrup trial in 2018. This will include information on things like fertiliser usage, soil test results and paddock history from the site selected. The third option in the trial side pop up window is a link to download a table of the yield and grain quality data. This is a table that will have trial results for every trial of that crop type in that year. The next item in the list is a link to the disease rating information on the NVT database. Here you'll find information on a number of diseases across all the 10 crops in NVT. After that is a link to the EPR Variety Central website where you can find the endpoint royalty information for every variety and the final link will take you to the state based sewing guides published by state departments in conjunction with GRDC every year. Back on the NVT homepage you'll find some of the other main features of the site. You can enter your email address and subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Twitter for more regular updates. That's it for the video on navigating the NVT website. There's a second video in this series on accessing and interpreting NVT long term yield information.
