Gerri the NVT Guru discusses managing rhizoctonia in wheat and barley across low and medium rainfall zones in Australia. The video covers fungicide and biological product strategies to control this soil-borne disease that damages crops in drier regions.
Chapters
We do spend quite a bit of money in trying to counteract it and suppress the disease. It takes time. It takes time to suppress a rhizoclatonia. You've got to put seed dressings on it, either at seeding or pre seeding, and fungicides at seeding. So it all takes time. And time. Time's money.
Firstly, we are trialling new chemicals, so that includes new fungicides, but also new biological products that are currently in Australia. We've got long coleoptol demo trials as well. And the idea of that is, obviously, long coleopters are sowing deeper in the soil and riser are sort of active in that 0-10 cm. So by sowing below where the riser is active and causing damage on the roots, we can potentially avoid a lot of damage and the plant can get ahead and produce a better yield.
