Christian Osgood argues that an AI system that approves building permits in ten seconds would solve the housing crisis by removing bureaucratic delays and boosting construction. He dismisses tax hikes and rent controls as missing the real problem: supply doesn't match demand.

AI application that reads your, uh, building permit for a new house or a new building, and it should give you a yes or a no in 10 seconds. The number one biggest thing we can do for the housing crisis is exactly that. This is dead on. There's all these stupid ideas I see about how we can raise taxes or do all these things to lower the cost of living or punish existing homeowners by driving down housing. You want to fix the supply and demand problem? Increase supply. You want to increase supply? Stop getting in the way of building. Now, to be fair, I make a lot of money by buying in areas with growing population. I buy apartments knowing that population is out-increasing supply. So supply is fairly static, demand keeps going up. That being said, me making money is not the most important thing. Housing for Americans is very needed. This makes it easier for everyone. Fantastic policy. This fixes a lot.
