A mentorship leader tells Christian Osgood that success has nothing to do with location, money, or education. The real separator is willingness to take massive action and stop telling yourself stories like "I'm too old" or "I don't have enough time." Those narratives are just excuses that keep you stuck.
You've had an amazingly, amazingly long-running, successful mentorship community. What is the key differentiator between a successful student or a student who doesn't make it happen?
It does not matter where they live. They can live in a town of 1,000 people or they can live in Manhattan. Does not matter their education. They can have a PhD or fail high school like me. They can have millions of dollars or be eating ramen noodles. It doesn't matter. What matters is them taking massive freaking action. What matters is they're changing their stories that hold them back. I'm too old. I'm too young. I don't have enough time. I don't have enough money. All these stories, we have these stories that we tell ourselves, and what they are is circuit breakers. We rationalize our lack of success and our lack of motivation, our lack of execution, with stories. The people that are successful are the ones that just change the story and go take massive freaking action.
One of the only things that deeply upsets me is when someone texts me and goes, hey, I can't build the business that you've built. I'm like, you're right. If you don't change that mindset, you're absolutely right, you can't do it.
