How to solve any challenge

Cody explains how talking through problems with mentors and others who've faced similar challenges is the fastest way to solve them. He shares a story about a dinner where discussing a math problem that didn't add up led to clarity, and introduces his mentor's beach ball metaphor: each panel represents a different perspective that only becomes visible when you change your seat at the table.

Hey YouTube, this is Cody and tonight's video is a solo video about communication, about the, the sheer importance and why it is so valuable. This is something that it's really just a lesson directed towards younger entrepreneurs and more so than just entrepreneurs, younger human beings, people that are looking to grow, people that are looking to learn something new and go from where they're at to where they really want to be in life. Whether it's business, whether it's personal goals, everything you want to go do can be accomplished through communication. And I found that regardless of how much I go do in the business world, no matter how many feats I go accomplish— I go buy new apartment complexes, under contract on a new one today— no matter what I go do, I have to remind myself this as a younger individual, because I keep forgetting that whenever I face a problem, communication is the single quickest way to get out of that problem or challenge. I had a dinner tonight with someone that, if you put respect on a scale, my respect for him, if you're doing 1 to 10, this is like a 20. Amazing human being. We got into a little bit of a challenge that I had to figure out, and I had a problem that didn't add up to me. I'm a math guy, but I could not figure out the math. It did— it didn't add up. And so we had to go have dinner, communicate. And I just have to remind myself that because it's fun to try and figure out how to do things on my own, but I'm putting this video together for you because just as a younger person out there trying to go accomplish goals, you've probably faced this too where you want to go do it on your own. I grew up as an introvert and I was afraid to go talk to people, and that makes it hard for me sometimes, even though I love going out and talking to people today. Makes it difficult to go get out there and sometimes voice all of my challenges when I'm working with. And regardless of how difficult it is for me and how difficult it is for you, everything you want to go accomplish, someone else has already done. Everything that you want to learn, everything you want to know, there's people out there that have already been in those shoes and had to go figure it out. And so while I talk about this on the real estate front and I say, well, just if you want to go buy real estate, go talk to people that own real estate because they know people that own real estate and they know how to actually go buy it. If you take the business out of this and you're just facing your challenges, it could be in school, it could be a familial relationship that you're having problems with just at home. It could just be a personal goal that you're getting stumped on. Regardless of what this is that you're facing, the quickest way to solve that is through active communication. And you may not know who to talk to today, that's okay, but voice it with somebody. One of my mentors from Central Washington has this beach ball theory. If you got a beach ball, there's all these different panels that you can't see from one seat at the table. And each panel could represent a different solution to a challenge you're facing. And so regardless of where you sit at the table, you may see one solution, but that may not be the right one for today. So what I'm trying to get across here is just as a younger entrepreneur, as a younger investor, and a younger person— this channel is directed at investors and entrepreneurs, people that want to scale up their goals, but not every goal is business, and a lot of them are personal. When you're facing challenges, go talk with people. Talk with people who have been in the space. Talk with people who have been through what you've been through. And talk with people that you want to work with. There's so many people out there. You don't have to just go talk to someone that you don't like. Talk with the people that you want to work with that understand why you're doing what you're doing. And you'll be able to solve any challenges you're working on. So again, today's lesson is active communication is the single most important piece to going from where you're at to where you want to go. And to the extent you can communicate with others, you're going to be able to go accomplish your wildest dreams. So if you haven't already, like, subscribe, and if you want to voice some of your challenges that you're facing comment them down below, and let's start this active communication with you. Chat soon.
