How to surround yourself with the right people. Partnership pt.1

Cody went from real estate agent to investor and learned that mentors matter less for what they teach than for whether they believe in you. His first mentor called him a "non-closer" and killed his confidence. Christian, his second mentor, kept saying he could close deals, and suddenly he did. Find people who lift you up.

Hey YouTube, it's Cody. Solo video today, and today we're talking about getting the right partner. I've talked a little bit about partnerships in the past and why they are so important, but I haven't really shared some of the stories of where I was and where I'm at today. And this is crucial for people getting started. There's a lot of stressful pieces in the real estate game and just in business in general, growing up even. That are difficult when you're doing stuff alone. And when I got started as a real estate agent and then eventually became an investor, I had a mentor who I could not be where I'm at today had I not had him. However, he did hold me down on occasion and it took down my confidence. I was told I wasn't a closer. I was told that I wasn't there yet, that I just need to keep doing what I was doing. And he was right, and I needed his help to get where I'm at today. But those little put-downs subdued me and they kept me down, and it made it very, very hard to grow and to scale and to build a business. It put limitations in my head that were hard to overcome. And then comes along this guy with a beard, and his name's Christian, and you guys have seen Christian on the channel. And Christian completely changed it for me, 'cause Christian told me when I first met him, he's like, you know what you're doing. You're a good salesperson. And I didn't really believe it. I heard him tell me that for months. And while I had this amazing mentor who did help me get started, it's very important to have a mentor. Christian lifted me up. And that is something that is hard to find. When you're doing this whole business thing and trying to get started, it's very hard. It can be intimidating. There's a lot going on. And the one thing that most people lack, I lacked personally, was confidence. Because while I had someone that was pushing me forward and showing me what to do, I didn't really get any confidence from him on what I was doing because there was always stuff that I had to improve on. And there's always things you need to work on. But whenever I was with him, I was not considered a closer. I wasn't considered the, you know, the best, and I'm not the best, but I didn't ever get confidence from him that I could go accomplish these things. And when Christian came in, he lifted me up and said, you can do anything you want to do. And with Christian's support, I started making sales and people would call in. I was trying to grow a company at the time. One call in, they'd be closed by the end of the call. That is the power of having people in your corner that support and lift you up. You can have phenomenal mentors in your life that help you get to where you're at. That, but they may not get you to the next level because they may not be the right support that you need. I don't want to be self-made. I don't recommend people try and be self-made. It is very difficult to do that, and it's hard to cope with some of the stresses that come along with that. And if you're a younger investor, entrepreneur, or just human being that's trying to get into the game, that's trying to get started, look for people that will lift you up, that'll push confidence your way. Information is not as important as the application, and it is hard to apply when you're not confident. When you lack certainty, you have to slow up a little bit. And so if you look at two different mentors, maybe someone is your information. Look for someone that can instill confidence in you. Whenever you meet with them, you feel better, and that is what's going to elevate you to the next level because you're going to get the certainty just from being in the room with them to go do bigger things than you're doing right now. Short video today. I hope you guys have a great weekend, but if you have comments, thoughts on this, put in the comments section below. Finding the right mentor is super valuable, but more so than getting someone that will tell you what to do, find someone who will give you the confidence to go crush your goals because it can mean the difference between going the pace you're going today and completely changing the trajectory of where you want to be. So I'll see you guys next time and have a fantastic weekend.
