Christian Osgood spent three years building his businesses before having kids, achieving enough financial freedom to retire his wife and be fully present as a parent. He pushes back on criticism that he should have started a family in his early 20s, arguing that financial independence made him a better father than a conservative career path would have.

I was talking about hitting financial freedom before you have kids, and I got a lot of people who did not like that idea. For those who don't know, I'm 32 years old. I decided to spend 3 years really dedicated, focusing on my businesses, growing my income, get to a point where I could retire my wife, build the dream house behind me, move down to Texas, raise our kid where we wanted to, and not have to worry about money. I can spend a lot of time with my kiddo now. And surprisingly, I got a lot of comments on it like, hey, people should just have kids in their 20s. People are waiting too long to have kids. You're going to regret not starting earlier. Here's my opinion. I would have taken less financial risk, or I would have been more conservative. I would have stayed in a 9-to-5 longer. My kid wouldn't be allowed to have the life that he has because his parents wouldn't be as available if I didn't spend just a little bit of time on my business. Now, I got some dissenting views on this. I personally thought it was worth it for me, but I'm curious, what do you think? Should you have kids early in your 20s, or should you spend a little bit more time setting your base before you start your family?
