I can't believe they actually left... said no one ever

New York has lost over one million residents since 2020 while Florida gained population. New York spends $254 billion for 20 million people; Florida spends $115 billion for 23.4 million. New Yorkers pay up to 15% in combined state and local taxes while Florida has no income tax.
Check this out. Okay, I saw this video. Hard to believe that it's real, but it made me want to research the data to capture exactly why so many people are leaving blue states like New York. But first, here's a video.
The era of Trump and Zeldin and Molinaro, just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong. Okay, get out of town, get out of town, because you don't— you don't represent our values. You are not New Yorkers. But maybe the first step should be go down to Palm reach and see who we can bring back home because our tax base has been eroded.
Their tax base has been eroded. Imagine that. But let's look at the data here quickly, starting with this concept of net domestic migration. This means how many Americans move between states. Some will move into your state, some move out. How did you fare on a net basis? New York has lost over 1 million Americans since 2020, over the last 5-ish years in the state of the available. That's roughly 5% of their population saying peace. It's kind of a big deal. They did add during this time, during the Biden administration in particular, they did add about 350,000 foreign migrants though. Okay, but to really understand this, the final data that we need to look at is the state spending and their tax policies. Let's compare Florida versus New York here. Starting with New York, New York has a state population in the state of about 20 million people, and their budget is $254 billion. Compare this to Florida. Florida's population is 23.4 million people. 3.5 million more people live in Florida than in New York. and the state budget is $115 billion, less than half the budget for the state of New York. Comparing to New York City real quickly, New York City's population is 8.5 million people, and they have almost the same budget as the entire state of Florida. So in New York, they are spending more than 2.5 times per capita than the state of Florida. Let's look at the tax policies here quickly. You guessed it, in Florida, there is no personal income tax. The state or by the city, compared to in New York, you could pay up to 15% in state and local taxes if you live in New York City. That is insane. So this is exactly how blue socialist-friendly states like New York, how they enter the death spiral. They secure votes by promising the world to their people. They spend other people's money like crazy and deliver terrible outcomes, by the way. And they tax the heck out of their people as their obligations continue to increase which only drives the successful, freedom-loving people out of their state, which reduces their tax base and creates this vicious cycle where their obligations are increasing and their tax base is running away from them. The data doesn't lie. Woke socialism, bad. Freedom and common sense, good.
