Hey YouTube, this is Cody. We've got Christian back. This week's video, we're going to be talking about making the main thing the main thing. Last week we had a conversation with one of the owners of a real estate brokerage called Caliber Compass, and that he used to own a real estate company that ended up merging with another one, and he shared some great insight. And Christian's going to start us off sharing what we learned, but that said, it really simplified our lives.
This was awesome. So we laid out everything that we're working on— the buying, the selling, brokerage, teaching other people how to do this. We laid out our pieces to him, and he's someone who's gone ahead of us. He's built companies, he has an impressive portfolio, so he's been through a lot of the steps that we're doing now. One of the first things he said to us is, when we're talking about what do we do with our broker's license, was, why are you brokering? You, you have the golden goose. You have deal flow, and you have capital. Why are you brokering? Go buy deals. Make money buying deals. Help your clients buy deals, but you don't need to be the broker. I don't know about you, Cody, I hadn't heard that before.
I hadn't heard it, and we got a lot of takeaways from that conversation. Number 1, what's the golden goose, right? What is the goose that keeps laying the golden eggs that allows you to financially get ahead in life and be prosperous, or whatever you consider to be? Prosperous. And for us, what he told us was that the golden goose was we already had the connections and we had an ability to come up with money. I don't truly believe that's the golden goose.
No.
One takeaway that I got from it though is that the true golden goose of any situation is the ability to build rapport with other people, build out a relationship, which then allows you to go get deals and come up with money.
Exactly. It's not the existing deal flow, it's the ability to take what we've built so far with relationships and deals and capital be able to take that here and replicate it anywhere else. It's that ability is what we want to focus on.
And what we really got out of that, and I had to think about this because it was a new perspective, I had to take a step back. The main idea is the information that you've got, the details that you've got in your head, are less important than your ability to go create a relationship with someone who's already done what you've done. If you want to go get ahead of your situation, whether it's financially speaking or you want to go get an education in a certain field, instead of just going and acquiring a whole bunch of information, find a way to build a relationship with someone who has already done what you're looking to do. That was my big takeaway from that conversation.
Absolutely. That's, that's not something that I've had before in that capacity. Just having that insight of someone completely on the outside who's been there before, looking into your situation, giving insight. Amazing. The other takeaway from this that was huge for me is do what you need to be doing. If you are a broker like we were and you don't want to be a broker, great place to start is stop being a broker. If you're working a 9 to 5 that you don't love and you feel called to something else, build that out, commit to it, and figure out how do I get out of my 9 to 5. Do it responsibly, but do it. Commit to it.
That's what I learned this week from, uh, So the main thing, the main takeaway that you should get from this video, if you haven't really gotten an idea from this, simplify your situation. If you don't want to be doing something, don't do it. If you want to go be an investor, be an investor. Go buy a deal. And then make sure you're focusing on getting some outside perspective. Go get a knowledge or go get that experience from someone who's done it. Build a relationship and focus on that relationship over the information. Information is worth a lot less than that of an actual true connection with somebody else.
Yeah.
So go rock your week. Like, subscribe, comment if you haven't already, and we'll see you guys next time.
