Christian Osgood breaks down a Trump administration proposal to cut Section 8 housing assistance by 40% and limit eligibility to two years. He argues the reform would reduce fraud by "professional tenants" and push people toward self-sufficiency, while a new provision would help youth aging out of foster care buy their first home.

It's official, Trump is ending Section 8. Well, maybe not ending it, but it looks like he is going to propose that we wind it down by 40% and limit the amount of time that people can be on this program to 2 years. Now, while this may be a little bit rough on landlords, I think this is a great law. There are so many people are just professional tenants. They keep their income low so they can get free housing, free food, free medicine. At some point, we need to incentivize people to be contributing members of society. I think this is actually a great program. Help people get on their feet and kick a lot of the funding over to the individual states as opposed to make it all federal on our taxpayer dollars. I think this is a great law. While it's going to negatively affect me in the short term, I think this is great for America as a whole. Thumbs up. Oh, and as a bonus, it looks like they're going to sideline some money for kids getting out of foster care buying their first house, which is actually a really cool initiative. I like that part of this bill. It may not be a ton of money. I do like that it found its way in there.
