The StoryBrand framework positions the hero as the second weakest character, weaker than the villain but stronger than the guide. Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter work because Obi-Wan and Dumbledore are the most powerful figures. Effective presentations should adopt the guide role instead of leading with personal authority.

I think the way most people present is they lead with authority. The reason why they do that is it's insecurity. Yeah, it's like, don't you know who I am? And I've sold all these properties and all other stuff. Where in every really good story, from StoryBrand format, there's a hero and there's a guide. And what's interesting is that if you look at all stories, so like Luke Skywalker, there's Obi-Wan. Luke is the hero, Obi-Wan's the guide. Harry Potter, Dumbledore. Harry's the hero, Dumbledore's the guide. The hero though is actually the second weakest person in the story the villain. Because if you think about the hero, right, like Luke Skywalker has no idea about the Force, he doesn't know how to fly planes, like he doesn't know how to do anything, he doesn't know how to fight, he's stumbling, bumbling, he's making mistakes. Yeah, the guide is actually the most powerful person in the story.
