Christian Osgood tours a moldy rental unit and explains how to buy, renovate, and flip neglected properties through Section 8 programs. The difference between a slumlord and a responsible landlord comes down to maintenance and whether you actually improve the home for tenants.

All right, I joke a lot about slummy landlords and running places like this, but actually this is a place that we're looking at potentially fixing and flipping. It's absolutely messed up. Amazingly, this is one of the nicer units, and it has all sorts of mold and gross problems, but it's actually super rewarding to get to finish projects like this. When we take these on, if we end up doing this, when you turn the space into an absolute piece of junk into a beautiful property and a nice place to live— it works on low-income housing. We'll probably do something with Section 8 on something like this. You can actually really help with low-income housing, provide a great place to live, make a city better and make it profitable doing so. This is the type of project we love doing, and it makes a difference in communities. Landlords, do good work.
