A New Year A New You - The Wellness Wheel Part #2
16 Nov 2025 · 0 min
Pamela Jean’s podcast episode (part 2 of a short series) explains two spokes of the eight-part "wellness wheel": financial wellness and intellectual wellness. She emphasizes personal responsibility for happiness, common harms caused by financial stress (relationship breakdowns, staying in abusive relationships), and pragmatic financial advice (budgeting, living within means, diversifying income, planning). On intellectual wellness she urges continual learning and growth (workshops, hobbies, books, museums, languages) to strengthen the brain and maintain balance. The episode frames balance across all wheel areas as a route to peace and a "new you."
Welcome to a new life podcast with Pamela Jean, where it's all about empowering women to empower more women. Get ready, friends, to create a new life. And here is your host, Pamela Jean.
Hello, my friends, and welcome to today's podcast, part number two of a new life podcast, where I am talking about the wellness wheel and how it can impact the new year and how we can help you create a new you. In part number one, I covered the importance of living with balance and caring for our physical and social wellness. Today, I'm going to dive into financial and intellectual categories to recap just a little bit. The idea of the wellness will is very simple. The different areas of your life, you'll start to find that will improve when you get everything in balance. You will experience fewer big swings, fewer and fewer highs and lows, and live with just a sense of peace. Trust me when I tell you, it is a beautiful thing when you reach that point. The components of the wellness wheel are eight categories. And again, we talked about social and physical yesterday. Today we're talking about financial and intellectual. Part number three will be environmental and emotional. And part number four is going to be career and spiritual. I want you to keep in mind that you are the center of the wellness wheel. You are the center. You must commit to working on yourselves, my friends. No one's going to do it for you. Happiness and peace, those two things are an inside job. In some of the coaching that I've done, my clients will say, if my mother would do that, I would be happy. If my spouse would do this, I would be happy. If in my career, my boss would do that, I would be happy. But, friends, I don't mean to be, you know, a rainmaker today or a Debbie Downer, but the reality to all of that is your happiness is your responsibility. You need to decide that you are going to be happy in all things. Be happy in the good times and happy in the bad times. And happiness, truly, friends, is an inside job. So if we are honest with ourselves, we have more than one area that is causing our wheel to be out of balance, that we are kind of off the rails. So the two categories we're going to tackle today are financial and intellectual. If you ask a person what keeps them up at night, many will respond with financial stress. This rings true for so many people. Marriages have failed due to finances. Relationships have been destroyed because of money. If you've ever had a death in your family or you've witnessed a friend go through a death, what do family members fight about more than Anything is finances and money. It's also true that many women stay in abusive relationships because of money. Are you her? Is that you? Are you staying in a bad relationship out of fear financially that you cannot support yourself or you cannot support your children? First of all, if you're in an abusive relationship, get out now, don't wait, don't make money. Be the reason why you're staying. Please seek help if you're an abusive relationship. But friends, if the only reason you're staying in that relationship is because of money, you have to grapple with that piece of your wheel and find balance. Creating a budget obviously is a great place to start, and sticking to that budget is a great place to begin. You have to be disciplined and live within your means. Multiple streams of income are very beneficial and important considerations. We have all learned that diversification is key to healthy financial future. Being open to new avenues or income is key to peaceful years ahead. Don't forget to make plans for your future financially. People are stressed every day. Bills mount, the bank account goes down, especially right now as we're approaching the holiday season. Don't be tempted to spend now and regret later. That will lead to a financial instability and will set the wheel, the wellness wheel, completely off balance. So friends, if you're in a relationship or you're staying in a bad situation or a bad marriage because you're afraid of money, there are solutions for you. I promise you there are solutions. Reach out to me if you want to talk about that or need some help. I'm happy, happy to help you with that. It's too important. The next component that I want to talk about, the next spoke of the wheel, is the intellectual component. In the same way that you feed your body, your physical body, you must feed your brain properly. The human brain is incredible thing, a powerful force that needs to be used and challenged. Our brains soak up knowledge like a sponge. Whenever we learn something new, our brain makes connections between neurons and strengthening itself and even replacing other bridges lost over time. When we neglect our brain, on the other hand, the opposite can happen. To maintain intellectual wellness, try keeping the learning process going. It's about maintaining a growth mindset, attending workshops, whether it is career related or socially related or spiritual. I mean learn a new hobby, learn how to do something new. If you are a stay home mom and you know going to a career type of workshop doesn't make sense for you, well then go learn a new craft. Learn how to bake something, learn how to make something. There's so many different things that you can go to that will stimulate you. Go to an art gallery, go to a museum, challenge yourself to learn a foreign language. How about that? There's so many different things that you can do and I don't want you to sit back and say, I don't even know where to begin. Yes, you do. You are a smart person. You know what to do. Join a book club, read blog posts, or join a stimulating group that are just. Those are just a few suggestions to exercise your brain and expand your intellect. Challenging your intellect will help in keeping your wellness wheel balanced. And just imagine the places that you can go and the peace you will have in your life when your wheel is in balance. It's a beautiful thing. My friends. Tomorrow in part number three, I will cover environment and emotional wellness. These areas of your life when in balance, you will find that peace and ultimately create the new life that you would like. We've got a new year knocking on our door and let's set ourselves up to create the new you that you want. Thank you, my friends, for joining me. Have a wonderful day and I'll meet you back here tomorrow for part number four.
