Are you trying to keep your shoulders strong before surgery but having difficulty doing that because of pain? Here are 3 exercises you can do to maintain your strength and improve your outcome. So these exercises can all be done together. They're called isometric exercises. You want to activate the deltoid. Get against the wall, have your elbow at the side, and just push forward, holding 10 seconds. I feel the front of my deltoid engage. Once I do that, I'll go around, go out to the side again, arm and elbow at the side of my body. I'm pushing up, thinking that I'm going to come in an abduction movement, feeling the side of my deltoid engage. And then thirdly, just going and extending here. I'm going to be flat against the wall. I'm pushing back, feeling the rear deltoid here engage. So these simple exercises can be done even when somebody has pain that prevents them from raising their arm or strengthening. Otherwise, I can still maintain my strength and set myself up for a good outcome.
