Biceps pain usually shows up normal on MRI even when something is actually wrong. A clinical exam and diagnostic injection matter more than the scan. Insurance companies deny biceps surgery based on normal MRI results, so your doctor needs to back up the diagnosis.
My biceps hurts, but my MRI is normal. What's going on? Well, unfortunately, symptoms of the biceps don't always correlate with what happens on an MRI. Yes, you can occasionally see tearing in the biceps, but most of the time it's normal under MRI, and it really involves diagnosis with clinical examination and consideration of injection. And that's important that you have somebody that supports that finding as well, because a lot of insurance companies will unfortunately deny surgery for biceps based on appearance of MRI, but the fact is that is not the best way to pick up biceps pathology.
