Patients taking ARBs like losartan for blood pressure face an eight-fold higher risk of rotator cuff tears. If you're having rotator cuff surgery, ask your doctor about switching to a different blood pressure medication beforehand.
Here's one medication you should think about getting off of if you have a rotator cuff tear. Data from Scandinavia shows that angiotensin II blockers such as losartan increase the risk of tendon tearing 8-fold. So for my patients, if they're on losartan or other drugs of this class, I really recommend they consider an alternative to controlling their blood pressure around their rotator cuff repair.
