A medical professional reflects on the one thing they'd tell their 20-year-old self: stop comparing yourself to peers and focus on consistency instead. Steady daily effort compounds over time in ways that matter more than early performance anxiety.
Chapters
If I could go back and tell my younger self one tip or a piece of advice that would help me with my career in medicine to success, I would say it's consistency. Early in my career, I was always worried about my performance relative to others, trying to see how I could get to the next level. But what I've seen over time is that it really comes down to consistency, and very few people have the consistent effort day in and day out. But if you do that, it really pays off in the long term. You hear it from all sorts of successful people, and it's as true in medicine as it is in any other career. So for those Doctors or even other professionals out there, what is the one thing you wish you would tell your younger self, say 20 years old, that would have helped you in your career?
