Three quick tests can suggest a rotator cuff tear: cross-body rotation, forward lift, and a light weight raise in the scapular plane. Pain or weakness in all three points to a tear and means you need a doctor's evaluation.

Here are 3 tests you can do within 10 seconds to tell if you have a rotator cuff tear. Number 1, take your arm up and across the body and turn down. If you have pain with this, this is one indicator. Number 2, just going straight forward. If you have pain on the way up, and especially also if you have pain at the way down right about here, that's another indicator. Number 3, take a weight about 5 to 10 pounds in line with the scapula plane, and if you have weakness in this plane, that is an indication of rotator cuff tear. While these tests aren't perfect, if you have all 3 of these, you are very likely to have a rotator cuff tear, and that's when I would have Further evaluated.
