Short transcript excerpt from a video featuring Paula Caligiuri, PhD, and another speaker discussing the urgent need to develop global leaders. Speakers note that CEOs, managers, and HR report gaps; Caligiuri emphasizes that cultural agility is not achieved simply by relocating people but by the nature and quality of experiences and socialized behaviors.
Paula. Paula Calaggi, Professor PAULA Calaggiari.
So, friends, CEOs are saying, we're desperate for this. Managers are saying, we don't know how to do this. And HR is saying, I'm not sure how to solve this.
Come on.
We've known the answer for 400 years. Number one thing, they had to deliver great global leaders. The thing they said they did least. Well, you got it. Developing great global leaders.
It'S not just physically moving to another country or spending time in another country and breathing the air of that other country that makes you culturally agile. It's the nature and quality of the experiences you have while you're there. We talk about culture because no one is born with our behaviors. Those are socialized. It enables our brains to determine very quickly what's good, bad, right, wrong. We do this within a fraction of a second.
