Welcome to our clinic. Today we're here to talk about Therapeutic Plasma exchange, or tpe. It's a safe and effective procedure, but like any medical treatment, it's good to be aware of a few minor bumps that might come along the way. Don't worry, we've got you covered. Here are the top 10 things you need to be aware of, and you're definitely gonna want to see the last one. First up, we have the potential for a small hematoma or bruise where the needle goes in. It might look like you've been in a superhero battle, but it's totally normal. Just remember to avoid excessive arm movements and you'll be a ok. TPE can take a few hours, so you might feel a bit tired or stiff, but no worries. We've got super comfy chairs and you can watch your favorite shows or listen to a podcast. Need to stretch? Our friendly staff will help you adjust and stay comfy. Feeling peckish? Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia can happen during tpe. That's why we recommend eating a balanced meal, adding in some complex carbohydrates, quinoa, oats, brown rice, beans, sweet potatoes, squash, apples, oranges, berries, bananas before your appointment and bringing snacks and drinks to maintain your energy levels. Or we'll provide you with a juice and protein shake. We also monitor your blood sugar throughout the procedure. A slight drop in blood pressure or hypotension can make you feel dizzy, but fear not, if this happens, we'll adjust the plasma exchange rate and give you some IV fluids to get you feeling great again. Sometimes the stress of it all can cause vasovagal syncope or fainting. If you start to feel faint, we'll stop the procedure and help you relax. We've got plenty of relaxation techniques to keep you calm and comfortable. Citrate used in TPE to keep your blood slippery through the tubes can lower calcium levels leading to muscle spasms or tingling. We'll give you calcium supplements before and during the procedure to keep you in tip top shape. Although rare and usually minor allergic reactions to one of the replacement fluids can occur, but we're prepared. We'll monitor you closely and have medications ready just in case you're in safe hands. Infections at the needle site are uncommon thanks to our strict sterile techniques. We keep everything clean and safe to minimize any risks. A bit of bleeding or bruising at the IV site can happen. We'll apply pressure to the site after the procedure and keep an eye out for any excessive bleeding. You're in good hands lastly, if you take aspirin or NSAIDs, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, salacaxib, indomethacin, please check with your primary care physician and if possible, do not take for three days before the TPE procedure. We know this might sound a bit intimidating, but remember, each of these minor complications is manageable and treatable. Your safety and well being are our top priorities. Feel free to chat with our staff about any discomfort or concerns. We are here to support you and ensure you have a positive experience. Thanks for watching and we'll see you soon.
