Hello everyone. I'd like to thank you for inviting me to ammg. I've been part of the age management movement since the late 1990s. Been doing this stuff for about 30 years now. And I'm very excited to talk to you today about something that's going to transform the practice of age management. I can say that I've been in the field long enough. Help bring testosterone and hormones into the commonplace. Stem cells, participate in building a couple fellowships at a couple universities. And they're nothing compared to what I'm seeing occur with this new plasma chain. So before we get started though, I did want to thank a couple of important people who's on my team. Dr. Jin Shi. Dr. Shi is an esteemed data scientist, used to work at the University of Montpelier as the head of the department, and he has a Google Scholar index of 78. If you're not aware what that means, very few people get a score that high. That's how noteworthy this gentleman is. Also Dr. Paul Andersen. Dr. Anderson and I have known each other for a couple decades. I find him to be one of the most well read, educated and brilliant caregivers, researchers that I've ever met. He's a existential toxicologist. What I mean by that is he works with people with toxins in real time. Actually, he's really more of a detoxificologist because where he really specializes is all the different mechanisms by which you can get toxins out of the body. And we're going to be talking about that in quite a bit of deals today. And then of course, myself, I'm the kind of how to do it guy. I put together a number of different successful companies. Body Logic md, which was a marketing public relations firm that helped bring the world of bioidentical hormones to the more commonplace area in the public realm. I've also built Power to Practice, which is the integrated EMR for the longevity space. And now with this current iteration of MD lifespan, I am having more fun than I could even ever imagine. So before we have fun though, we got to talk about something very serious. Toxins. Toxins are an existential threat to all of us. Let me ask you a few questions. Do you believe that you are living now in a toxic environment? Do you believe that those toxins are inside of you? And finally, do you think at some point, in some way, these toxins are going to cause you a medical illness, perhaps even severe? If you answer those questions yes, then you're part of the majority of people who live in the United States. I don't know if you know who said this quote, but pollution and stupidity remain the biggest dangers to the continued existence of the human race. That was said by Dr. Stephen Hawkins, the physicist, about a month before he died from als, Lou Gehrig's disease, which is ironically, something that's caused by toxins. So we're going to be talking about toxins and we're going to talk about how they just mess up the whole biology from top to bottom. They interfere with your enzymes, they're hormone disruptors, they cause oxidative damage to everything they touch, including organelles, cells and the organs themselves. They change the DNA expression and they also damage the DNA. There's not a lot to say about toxins except for they're horrific, except for one thing. The worst thing they do is they impair your ability to detox. That's right. These guys who are in there destroying actually break down your own natural ways of getting them out. The United States government is fond of saying that most people can get all these toxins out because they're not overwhelmed, they're not overly concerned with all these toxins and they've set the NHANES numbers as such. The difficulty part is that the government hasn't yet realized and acknowledged that it's already overwhelmed. We are all toxic and we all toxic. Toxic to the verge of being unable to get these out. We did this to ourselves. The red line occurred back in the 1960s. What happened back then? Well, we started putting pesticides and herbicides into the farmland and into the house, around our houses.
Dirt for all the rare metals that we would need to run all our circuit boards. We started running more cars and we started burning more petroleum. And the industrial boom came up with all these synthetic compounds that we just don't know what to do with them. And we just keep pouring more and more of those in the environment. I don't know if you recall if you're as old as I am, but back in the 70s there was a very powerful commercial, the first one of its kind, that came out in 1971 on this American Indian who was traveling through the forest and then paddling through his canoes across the lake with more and more pollution as he's coming up onto the shore. And it's very heart wrenching.
And it was very startling because we'd never seen anything like this before. So back Even in the 70s, about 10 years after we started really polluting our whole environment. We knew we needed to do something back then because what we have now is a Toxic planet. What I mean by that, I mean that we have over 144 different man made toxins in existence on our planet. We have over 12,000 different types of PFAS. We have 17,000 different types of pesticides, 34,000 different types of herbicides, and 54,000 nanograms per gram of phthalates in every piece of Annie's homemade fudge cookies. It's a status. If you compared though, how many we can test for with how many there.
Are in our environment, it would be.
Comparing a man to a mountain because there's over 144,000. We could test for about 120 of them currently in the medical arena. What that really means though is that if you're doing a test with all 120 toxins on it and 30% of it comes back positive, it's not just those 30% that are positive. It's very likely that all the 30% of the 144,000 are also positive. We got to remember we're only seeing a sliver of the toxins in each person on these testing modalities. The interesting and difficult part about toxins is that they're incredibly hard to get out. I can say that with my own 30 years of experience as well as Dr. Anderson. They're hard, they're difficult, they're time consuming, it's expensive and it doesn't work well. There's some chelators that you can use with heavy metals that take out lead and mercury and arsenic and cadmium. There are some binders that you can use to take out like charcoal, to take out some petroleum products.
There are other medicines like cholesterramine as.
A binder that you can help to get rid of some of the molds, but not all of them. And there's also infrared saunas that you can sweat things out and that does get out some heavy metals and, and.
It does get out some of the.
Volatile chemical organic chemicals.
And then there's these kits that you can buy that you're taking three to 16 different supplements every day for six months. It kind of just all trying to get at all these toxins. And the real truth of it is it's really not a great way to get people detox. It really doesn't work all that great. So let's talk about a question that in age management, everybody should absolutely know the answer. What's the fourth leading cause of death? If you didn't say Covid, you would be wrong. It is Covid that is the fourth leading cause of death. Now, in America, number three is cancer, number two is heart disease. And you're going, wait a minute, Dr. Savage, heart disease is number one. Not as of September 2023. The World Health Organization now lists toxins as the leading cause of death above heart disease.
It's everywhere and it's this serious.
Now, toxins, they're like that little ninja.
That'S hiding that you don't even know there.
It's a silent killer. Matter of fact, it's the ultimate silent killer. It is the silent killer that causes all the other diseases that we call silent killers. So it's going to be a huge area of concern because we cannot get the government to stop putting toxins in our environment. So we better figure out a way to get the toxins out of us. So let's talk about plasma exchange. Plasma exchange has been around for 50 years. We used to do it in the emergency room when I was an emergency room attending.
We did it for people who came.
In a certain type of drug overdoses, like digitalisation. And it worked very well because what it does is basically takes out your plasma and gives you back albumin and you make more plasma yourself. It's been in the news a lot.
Lately because of a lot of the research going around.
And so in essence, what is plasma change? It's an oil change. It's that simple. I'm taking out your old, toxic, inflamed, virus ridden, garbage ridden plasma and I'm giving you back instead albumin with saline to keep the space open for the next 24 to 48 hours when you make new, fresh, non inflamed, non toxic, non viral particle, perfectly baby fresh plasma to put into yourself. Plasma exchange is very simple procedure. It requires two relatively large four IVs. I go into using the antecubitals and then we draw out the blood.
The blood is then added to an anticoagulant. We use citrate.
Citrate lowers your calcium level, which inhibits.
The ability for the blood to clot. And then the blood passes through a centrifuge, which is a cell separator.
We're taking out the cells from the plasma. We put the plasma in a bunch of waste bags.
You can see it up there on the upper left. The plasma bag is getting full. And then at certain times during the procedure, it releases it down to a waste bag and fills itself up again. It usually does that about two and a half times because we're filtering something between two and a half and three and a half liters on Each person. After that, the red blood cells and other cells are combined back with the.
5% album and saline and it's infused.
Back into the person.
The whole procedure takes usually about 120 minutes. The patient's usually there for about four hours.
An hour on the front side and an hour on the backside. There's very few adverse reactions to plasma exchange when you're using albumin.
Albumin is scrubbed, it's radiated, it's, it is from humans.
It's been used for 50 years.
There's no documented case of people getting.
Communicable diseases or cancer from this product.
Matter of fact, this product is so.
Stepped on that the government doesn't even consider it a blood product. It considered it a byproduct, just protein. So you don't have to worry about all the blood regulations when you're dealing with albumin compared to when you're using fresh frozen plasma.
Adverse reactions using albumin are low. They're about 6%, and they're pretty minor things.
You get a bruise on the arm because these IVs are pretty big. You can get itching, which is really kind of more the calcium that's going low. Sometimes you get low muscle spasms. But typically what I see is people's nose itches or their eyebrows itch or their hands itch. That's from the calcium going low. We simply give them some Tums and they feel much better.
You can get a low blood pressure drop. Not that we're taking a lot of fluid and exchanging it, because we're exchanging it for a one to one balance.
But it's just a process of releasing.
All those toxins on occasion, let's say.
The basal, the vascular dilate, and that causes a temporary drop in their blood pressure. We just halt the procedure, give them 250, 500 cc's of normal saline, they do fine.
Probably the most dramatic thing that can.
Happen is they can get low blood sugar because plasma chains were taking out everything, including the good, the bad and the ugly.
So if the patient doesn't eat a.
Very good meal beforehand and we have them drink juice or a protein drink during the procedure to keep them from.
Getting hypoglycemic, that's probably the most dramatic.
Thing that you're going to see. But it's easily avoidable by just having them eat.
And then the citrate reaction is an interesting thing. It looks like an allergic reaction.
It doesn't act like one. Though it doesn't respond to Benadryl, it doesn't respond to steroids not all that good. It does respond to calcium, so it's a citrate rash.
It doesn't cause anaphylaxis as per se, it just causes hives.
And we just give them a low.
Calcium chloride, either in an IV piggyback or a bolus.
They do much better.
But the one thing we want to make sure you don't do is use fresh frozen plasma. I'm a trauma doc for 10 years at the largest trauma center in the world. Hanging that 10th bag of plasma on.
This patient that was in the middle of a trauma. I would sit there and wonder, plasma.
Going to kill them or is the.
Trauma going to kill them?
Because when you give that much plasma.
To a person, you're just setting yourself up for thrombocytic purpura. And they do occur.
So that's one of the things with the fresh frozen plasma is it has.
A lot of side effects.
27% of the people has five spec and some of these side effects are lethal.
Death is one of those side effects.
So there's absolutely no reason in age management medicine that we need to expose.
Our patient to this type of a.
Risk because we're supposed to keep them.
Alive longer, not kill them with a procedure.
TPE is used in over 167 diagnosis.
You probably don't know all that much.
About it because it's not a primary or secondary therapy for almost anything.
Covid is probably what it's been used for the most lately, but it's been used on Guillain Barre, it's been used on a lot of autoimmune diseases, especially when they start causing a bunch of the radiculopathies.
It's been around and used on all of these things.
Why am I talking about the plasma change? Because of a study that was done, you may be aware, the mouse study, as they call it, the aging mouse study, that was done in 2005, where they took an old gray, arthritic fat mouse and they surgically tied its circulatory system to a young, lean, brown, healthy.
Mouse, equivalent age of 70 to 20.
And when they did that, about six.
To eight weeks later, the mouse had gotten young.
The old mouse turned young, like a lot, like it's reduced its lifespan considerably. They didn't know what caused it. They thought, what was it in the young mouse that was making the old mouse young again?
And for many, many years, about seven.
Years, people went around trying to figure.
Out what it was.
Bezos invested a million dollars, or sorry, a billion dollars in pharmacy to find that magic particle, the aging particle. Stephen Peter Thiel from PayPal, he invested a billion dollars in a computer program to try to get AI data to crunch it out, to figure out what it was or what combination it was that was making these people young again. And none of it worked out. Finally, in 2012, they figured out, wait a minute, it's not what's in the young mouse that's making the old mouse young, it's what's in the old mouse.
That'S making the old mouse old.
And when they figured that out, they said, well, if that's the case, then we can simply just take out the.
Plasma, because we should be taking out whatever the particle is that's making the old mouse old, and they should get young.
And indeed, that's exactly what happened. The old mouse lived longer than the control mice. It had reduced fat mass, had improved muscle mass, had better gene expression, it had lower oxidative stress and inflammation. So all of a sudden we're like, wait a minute, we can do this on patients. The biomarkers of aging is the study that was done in 2020, where we started looking at six older people. And what they did was they took out all these proteins. They analyzed 500 different proteins. They found about 75 of them that they felt were age related to the control group of two younger adults around 30. And what they did then is they did these plasma changes with albumin and saline. And then after the fifth plasma change, they were all about a month apart. They remeasured these labs and what they found was amazing. It lowered the inflammation, it lowered the oxidation, it lowered the pre cancer cells, it lowered cancer cell markers, it lowered Alzheimer's market, and it improved the immune system. We all know that a strong immune system is paramount if we're going to make 90, because heart disease, cancer, infections, they all depend on having a very good immune system to combat all these things. And when you don't, you're not going to last as long. So having seen all this information In August of 2022, it dawned on me that there's something that I think they're missing here. Their conclusion of the study of the six patients with all the reduction in the inflammation and oxidation was that it was because of elimination of the metabolic pathways of the metabolic, of the byproducts of metabolism that was causing the aging. I knew that wasn't true because in age management medicine, we have the five tenets. We have exercise and nutrition, stress management, sleep and detoxification. And in the 30 years that I've Been in the field, got the first.
Four down pretty well, can handle most.
Of that stuff with hormones and some of the new peptides and the, the nutrients and medications, as well as infrared saunas and light therapy. However, detox still remained elusive, still remained a problem and a ever growing problem. And that's when I realized what they did was they cleaned up the microenviron, they got rid of the toxins. I knew it. So we got our team together, we came up with the protocol because we knew that we could improve on the plasma exchange. Because that's just taking old stuff out. Hey, in the meantime, let's give them all the good stuff back in, Whether it was a peptide or a hormone or a nutrient. Let's start giving these people back what their body needs. Because what we figured out was it's kind of like an old car.
You see a car that's in a.
Garage or a barn for 50 years and you walk in, it's covered with leaves and vines and has a whole bunch of dirt.
There's no air in the tire, there's.
No gas in the tank, there's no oil in the crank, there's no air in the radiator, and there's no spark in the plugs. When you do tpe, what you're doing to the car is you're basically removing all the weeds, getting them all out of there and getting all the dirt out of all the different mechanisms and all the gears. But the car still won't run after you cleaned it out. What you need to do is give it back, everything it needs to ignite.
The sparks, to burn the gas, to.
Pump the water, to use the oil and the airs on the tire to get this mobile moving. So this protocol, Basically we took 200 different lab tests. We looked at everything, inflammatory markers, metabolic markers, toxin markers, longevity markers. And then we repeated it in about a week just so we could use a patient as their own control. And then what we did is we educated them on lifestyle recommendations.
Because if we're going to get all.
This stuff out of you, we don't want you putting it back in. So a lot of it was education on food, on their water supply, on chemicals in their home, on the type of dry cleaning. They we have a whole big paper, a whole big program for people to understand, read. They can talk to our TPE administrator if they need more detail or further questions because we want them to start living in a cleaner environment. And then we start the protocol with the plasma exchange. At this point, we're doing the plasma exchange with 5% albumin. And then we follow it up with an infusion of medications and supplements. And then we follow that up with a daily shake that has a ton of nutrients and other amazing things to get the car up and running again. And we do that every month for a total of five. So after we get to the fifth plasma change, we wait a couple weeks and we do the final set of labs. And that's where we were going to stop. Dr. Paul Anderson, the authority on toxins, said, Two weeks out, we're good, everything will be equilibrated. We can look at the numbers then. So we did. But I know how people think and I know how docs think and they're all going to say, yeah, but did.
They stay now or when do they start to go up?
So we needed to do further testing. So we added another test six weeks after the final tpe. And as of about two months ago, we added on a six month follow up with some of the patients as well. And I'll show you why in just a moment. So now we kind of went through all the laying down of the plan and laying down of all the material and items you need to understand to appreciate what you're going to see. And I hope you're impressed, as I am with these numbers. Now, I should let everybody know that we tested for 109 toxins on every patient. We found 89 of those toxins in a critical value.
The thing you have to understand is.
With these toxins, we use the government's reference ranges, nhanes. We didn't use what we know to be the right levels of lead and mercury, which is 0, biphosphate, and atrazine, which is 0, all these plastics, all these phthalates, which is 0. We went with the government standards of what they said was relatively safe and then which was dangerous. And of that we had 89 of those markers found was toxic in at least one of the people. And we tested 48 people. The average, I mean, the person that had the Most toxins had 33 toxins out of 109. The average per person was about 13, but interestingly enough, about 40% of those of the 13 were in the high critical range. And finally, how many of the patients did we test had no toxins as defined by the government's reference ranges? None. The least we had on anybody was three, but that's still significant. The people that we put through this data collection, this therapeutic plan, were five men, five women, and then we had three controls. The control was just Basically, people who didn't tolerate the oral shakes, they didn't want to do them. And at that point I said, that's fine, you don't need to do that. So we just did the TPE alone with those people. Now, it's interesting, of all those 13 people we tested, we only looked at their labs that were abnormal. So out of the 200 biomarkers that we tested, only the ones that fell outside the normal range on both the first and second testing did we look at at the end, because I didn't want the data to be messed up by levels, checking levels that were already normal just to get them better. I wanted to really check to see what impact we'd have on the critically high levels of toxins, inflammations, oxidation, and the critically low immune system. So some of the aging biomarkers we looked at is, as I just mentioned, the immune system. We know that your immune system gets weaker as you get older. So let's measure it. And I'm doing this for years on my patients. CD3, which is how many T cells you have, CD4, which is how many helper T cells you have, CD8, suppressor T cells you have, CD19, how many B plasma cells that you have, and CD56s, how many natural killer cells. We looked at oxidative stress markers. Now, mind you, we did a lot more than just two oxidative stress markers, but I picked the two that I thought you would be the most familiar with, which is deoxyguanine, which is breakdown product of DNA when it gets oxidized, and monoproxinase, which is an enzyme that the periphery tissue generates in order to take care of free radicals. We looked at inflammatory markers like uric acid, C reactive protein, one of the cytokines, interleukin 6, also tumor necrosis factor alpha, because they all have a little bit different story to tell when you're looking at inflammation. And we looked at longevity markers. We looked at the Clotho protein, and we looked at NAD intracellular. We also looked at how much SABG we could detect in the plasma and the blood during the whole procedure, because this whole thing is going to act like the best senolytic you've ever seen at killing off cyas itself. And then we started looking at the toxins, and we looked at a lot of them. We looked at over 20 different heavy metals. I'm going to show you the result of lead, mercury, arsenic, and aluminum. Lead, mercury and arsenic are the top three metals that we find in most patients. Aluminum is the one that's correlated highly with Alzheimer's. We have the herbicides and there's a lot of that we test. But you probably know atrazine, it was.
The first one of the first that.
Was introduced way back in the 1960s, still one of the most commonly used. But also glyphosate, which is Roundup, that's the one that you Monsanto, the stuff that we spray on the all the weeds around their house and the pesticides, all the DDTs that no longer use DDT, we have the ability to, we have its little sisters that are doing the same kind of damage that the DDT did with the oxidative component. Then we check the phenols like the biphenyl A, the hormone disruptor that is the most frequently seen toxin in the Chicago area. That one hands down, out of all the patients that we tested, most of the patients had biphenylate, mycotoxins. We looked at all sorts of different classes. But I'm going to show you results from an afloxin, one from an ochratoxin and one from Zea. And then finally the phthalates which are the plastics that we've introduced with the industry and finally the organic compounds which are from the petroleum burning products. Now before I show the data, I didn't want to reintroduce you to Dr. Shi, the eminent data scientist who made some very nice comments about this data. In that the 40 years that he's been a data scientist, he's never seen outcomes that are as good as these. And he often told his students that when the numbers are this black and white, you really don't need statistics. Then we have Dr. Paul Anderson who we are all shocked by the levels that we started seeing. And in his 30 decades as a clinical environmental toxicologist, he's never seen preliminary data so exciting as well. Let's talk about patients comparing them to those that just had TPE only versus the people that had the complete protocol that we put together. Immune system that we look at, we have on the left up there TPE only and then on the right on the protocol. And what we see on the TPE only is that after the whole procedure, two weeks afterwards, we really don't see much change in the immune system. But in the protocol we saw between a 15 and a 50% change. Improvement in the immune system markers. Inflammation dramatically dropped across the board by between 25 and 50% and oxidative stress dropped by about 25 to 50% which is just phenomenal. And then the longevity marker Clotho Went up. We don't never seen anything that increased clotho before. At least I haven't.
And NAD intracellular went up almost 100%. And then the siestin factor, the SABG, went up about 75%. People a little confused, like, wait, why is it going up? Because it's acting like a senolytic and it's killing off the cells. And those cells are releasing that enzyme into the environment. And this will clear. So when we started looking at the toxins, we started comparing them as well. And with the protocol alone versus the TP alone versus protocol, you can see the type of results that we're getting. Almost 100% elimination of aluminum on everybody. We did not expect aluminum to be cleared this well from everybody. And usually by the third of the fifth treatment, it was already clearing. But we also saw a remarkable reduction in arsenic, mercury, lead, and all of the heavy metals. All of them went down. And in the environmentals and the herbicides, we're seeing 30 to 60%. And then in the pesticides, we're seeing the same phenomenal numbers on these numbers, which we've never really been able to get moving satisfactorily. And then looking at the phenols like the BPA and the triclosan, you know, again, 50 to 90% reduction. The phthalates, the plastics are almost entirely coming out volatile compounds, which are notorious.
Because they can go up and down.
Pretty quick, because we just need to go outside into the traffic and smell the exhaust. And you're going to get a lot of this into your system, but it's coming out remarkably well as well. And then the mycotoxins, because even though they're from mold, they're toxic to us. We used to live in dry caves. We now live in wet huts. And we store our grain in silos for three to five years, and it becomes moldy, and then we're introducing it into ourselves. So we're having a much more profound effect on ourselves than nature ever had for us with these mold toxins. The question is, though, when do these start coming back? And that's a great question to ask because we saw such a spectacular result at two weeks with the reduction in everything. We thought, well, at six weeks, we should start seeing maybe a little bit of reversal. You know, the toxins start coming up again. But what we saw was not. What we in fact saw was that the biomarkers continued to improve, the immune system continued to get stronger, Inflammation dropped even more, oxidative, stress dropped, longevity dropped. What's going on here. Well then we started doing six month levels on people and we don't have enough data today to show you, but enough patients have come in so far that we're scratching our head because these six month numbers again appear to be at least holding their own against the six week number, if not even improving somewhat more. So this is where Dr. Andersen said I'm going to have to go back and rewrite all those toxicology Texas because this is not what we predicted when we started doing this. We thought by six months we would certainly be having some level of reversal. But whether you're talking about the toxins which continued to get removed even more and more between two and four weeks, the answer is we're onto something here because these numbers just keep getting better and better. So what we've done here is we've taken this old dilapidated, dirty, vine covered car without any gas, air, oil and basically with the TPE to clean it up and the nutrients to give it back its mechanisms, we've turned it into an incredibly good looking and powerful car. Now we're going to go through some data here and I'm going to warn you to start with this data is enormous, the changes are enormous. But it's always good to see the graphs of where things are people going, the immune system going up. And I've never found anything in my older population that would make it go up by 25 to 50% as much as this whole protocol did. Inflammation going down. We did see a little bit upswing at six months. We're going to continue to watch that. But in general we're seeing inflammation markers come down from high ranges, the normal, we're seeing oxidative stress continue to fall, we're seeing longevity markers continuing to improve. I should note on the SABG that we do see a temporary increase in the enzyme which is what we believe.
Is the dying off of all the cystic cells.
And finally it's starting to drop. We're going to be following that along. So to see if it continues to move in that fashion. The heavy metals dropping incredible amounts. Aluminum which should have a level 12 or below drop from 77 down to almost, almost zero by the six week mark. As well as mercury and lead, we have atrazine and glass phosphate falling, we have all the pesticides falling, we have all the phenols falling, we have all the phthalates falling, we have all the organic compounds falling and we have the mycotoxins falling. And if you try to get mycotoxins out, this is an amazing progress on the percentage that we've been able to remove across the board on all the toxins, even the pfas. Although we don't have enough data yet. The data is now coming in and PFAS seem to be even more remarkable. They seem to be acting more like the phthalates which are completely plasma boundaries, protein bound in the plasma. So are the PFAs. And we're seeing the same kind of reduction in what the government says.
There is no known way of getting.
PFAS out of the body. We are about ready to submit our findings to the government. So I'd like to thank everybody for having me come here and one of the personal reasons that I got into this because this was my picture when I was 38 and now I'm 61 and I age management has given me a lot back. My life, my health, my career, a lot of my colleagues. And I've never been happier to be in this field because now I get to be an auto mechanic as well as a physician. So in closing I'd like to remind everybody that the protocol that we put together significantly reduce the toxins, improves your immune system, reduces inflammation, oxidation, siesence and improves your immune system and acts as a seniletic. And it appears that these changes are stable and perhaps even permanent. Thank you very much.
