Your body uses a process called oxidation to convert the food you eat into energy that you need to live your daily life. When your body burns that energy, the reaction releases an electron called a reactive oxygen species, also referred to as ros. ROS is a natural element of the body. ROS is not the enemy. However, having too much ROS creates a problem known as oxidative stress. There are three ways to manage oxidative 1. Avoid the causes of oxidative stress. This includes obesity, over exercising, poor diet, smoking, drinking alcohol, certain medicines and exposure to environmental toxins, heavy metals, air pollution and pesticides. 2. Eat foods that are rich in antioxidants. Some powerful options are blueberries, spinach, green tea, grapes, dark chocolate, artichokes and other foods that contain vitamin C, D and E. 3. Eat sulfur rich vegetables to increase your glutathione levels. These include broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, watercress and mustard greens. When ROS levels exceed your body's ability to neutralize them, the ROS can cause damage to your proteins, lipids and DNA. This is known as oxidative damage, which leads to your cells acting abnormally and contributes to developing various diseases including cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases and cancer. So what is the solution? How can you neutralize oxidative stress? One incredible option is therapeutic plasma exchange. TPE is a simple medical procedure that involves removing your blood plasma and replacing it with substitute solution such as albumin or saline. This process helps reduce the number of oxidants and other harmful substances in your bloodstream. The result is that the overall level of oxidation in your body is significantly reduced, which decreases the severity of symptoms associated with oxidative stress. By clearing your body of these harmful substances, you are improving the environment of your body which leads to a boost in your body's healing.
