What's up? It's Jamal from HubSpot and I've got stat number one for you. The global email marketing market was valued at $7.5 billion in 2020 and is projected to increase to $17.9 billion by 2027. That growth is expected in spite of the increased competition from other marketing channels ranging from search and social media to chatbots and apps and and the evidence supports this claim. According to HubSpot's own research, 78% of marketers have seen an increase in email engagement over the last 12 months, and that level of engagement has led to an ROI on email marketing of 44 to 1. It's clear that email isn't going anywhere, even as privacy changes like iOS 15 force the industry to innovate. In fact, that's all the more reason to make sure that your email game stays strong. Let's look at some ways you can do that. The first is segmentation. Marketers have found a 760% increase in email revenue from segmented campaigns, so it's clearly something you should be doing. So what is segmentation? It's the process of separating your customers into groups based on certain traits and factors they share. For example, if you own a bicycle store, you could segment your audience by kids or adults, then send each segment an email that emphasized bikes designed for their age. You can also segment your emails by demographics like gender, income or preferred language, or by behavior like past purchase history or life cycle stage of the sales process. The more accurately you can segment your emails, the most responsive your audience will be. So send me the emails for under 30 black male star wars enthusiasts with a history of purchasing books about amateur magic. That is a subject line I will definitely open. Speaking of subject lines. Writing an effective one is a major factor in how well an EMO performs that. That's because 64% of email users make a decision to open emails based on subject lines. So what makes a good subject line? Well, the recommended length for subject lines is 40 characters. That's because it ensures that the subject line is readable on all smartphones. So it makes sense that emails with six to ten words in their subject lines have the highest open rate at 21%, while 21 to 25 word subject lines, which are way longer than, only have a 9% open rate. Emails with personal subject lines, usually the name of the recipient, are 26% more likely to be opened. Including a sense of urgency and exclusivity in subject lines gives emails a 22% higher open rate. And here's my favorite using emojis in a subject line increases the effectiveness by 70%. But businesses should only use one emoji at a time. Here's one last unexpected subject line station Using the word newsletter in a subject line decreases their chances of being opened by 18.7%. So just don't do that. I guess sometimes the success of an email has little do with the subject and more to do with the occasion that you send it. Birthdays are a great time to send emails, which is a little baffling to me because you would think if it's their birthday, maybe they'd be doing like birthday stuff and not like email stuff. But I'm just a harbinger of the statistics and that's what the stats say. So it would turn out that birthday emails generate 342% higher revenue per email than other promotional emails. Madness. Black Friday is another big day for email. Last year over 165 million emails were sent on Black Friday, which was directly responsible for 537,000 orders placed. But sometimes an occasion isn't something you need to find on a calendar. The day when someone joins your email list is a big occasion. Why else would welcome emails have a 91.43% open rate? This gobsmackingly jaw dropping open rate means that the welcome email might be the most impactful email you can even send to a customer. So really spend some time thinking about what sort of content makes it special for your new subscriber. The fact is, any kind of triggered email performs well. Whether it's based on pages viewed, a chatbot interaction, or response to previous email campaigns, Triggered emails have a 70.5% higher open rate than regular emails. And with that in mind, HubSpot CRM offers email automation within workflow so that you can easily set up triggered events. Check out the link in the description below if you want more information. The next step beyond email automation is email AI. In fact, email is one of the most promising use cases for how artificial intelligence could revolutionize marketing in the coming years. For example, 66% of marketers believe artificial intelligence is a way to optimize email send times. So even though we know that the most popular time to send emails is 10am on a Tuesday, the best time could totally be different for your business or even for your individual subscribers. You can be sure that the moment AI is powerful enough to make these sorts of decisions. HubSpot will include it as part of our email marketing tools. I can't wait to open those emails. I'll see you next time. Words. That's all they are. Just silly, silly words. Silly, silly, silly, silly words. Words, words, words.
