What's up marketers? In this video, I'm going to teach you how to build quality backlinks to your website so that you can rank higher on Google. Link building is the process of increasing quality inbound links to your website to gain referral traffic and increase your search engine rankings. I sat down with two link building experts at HubSpot to uncover ways for you to generate more links to your site. So here's what they had to say. First, create quality content that people want to cite and share. Justin Champion, a link building expert here at HubSpot, told me that in order to acquire quality backlinks, your website needs to produce high quality content that people want to cite and share. As Justin mentioned, if you create high quality original content, more people are likely to share it on social media. Quality content equals more shares, more shares equals greater reach, and greater reach equals more traffic. When you consistently create quality content, people will naturally link to your site as a source of information. Some of the top performing pieces of content include infographics, statistics, research and templates. At HubSpot, we created a marketing statistics article that has generated over 100,000 backlinks. What's the secret? This is a stat heavy post. Posts like these get linked frequently as citations. This is definitely one approach to scaling backlinks. Including original content like this can generate a ton of links from reputable sites to your website. By using your expertise and unique data, you can become a source for other bloggers and journalists. This will not only help you earn authoritative backlinks, but it'll also increase your brand awareness and drive referral traff traffic to your website. Now let's talk about how to actually earn more backlinks. But first I want to mention HubSpot's SEO certification course. That will be very helpful with this. I took it when I was building my own website and it really helped me understand link building. So you guys should definitely check it out. And it's completely free. The course is just a little over two hours long and it will teach you a lot about SEO backlinks and increasing your website's visibility on search engines. So now let's dig into how you can earn backlinks on your site so you can rank higher on Google. A great way to actively earn backlinks is by guest blogging. It may sound a little crazy to work hard writing a blog post that'll be going on a site that doesn't belong to you, but guest blogging is a very effective technique in generating backlinks. Justin shared this clip with me from his guest blogging course on HubSpot Academy, and here's what he had to say.
Security Guest blogging spot is a game of persistence and patience. It's going to take more than just blasting an email to a bunch of prospects to secure a worthwhile opportunity. The best way to approach the process is to consider it as if you're building a new relationship, because that's exactly what you're doing. Let's review some tips on how to go about building a relationship with a company that can ultimately lead to a guest blocking opportunity. First, do research on companies you want to write for. Second, engage with companies you want to write for before pitching an idea. Third, take the time to craft your pitch. Fourth, send a personalized email. And fifth. Fifth, always be seeking new opportunities.
Many sites even have guest blogging guidelines you can follow if you want to do this. I'll have this course also linked down below for you guys if you want to hear Justin break down each point further. It can take time for people to respond to your email pitches, but just remember that in the beginning you need this more than they do, so stay consistent. The more opportunities you pitch, the more likely you are to secure a guest spot and earn backlinks the third method to getting more backlinks is to build them by reclaiming unlinked mentions of your company. Many websites have broken broken links or links that are no longer relevant, and this is where you come in. If you find a broken link or you use a tool like Siteliner which helps you find broken links on any website, take advantage of this and find the site owner's contact info. Or reach out to their PR teams and suggest that they use your link as a replacement. Before reaching out, just make sure that the article you're providing offers better and more relevant content. You're more likely to succeed in this if your focus is to be helpful rather than just getting a backlink. For anyone watching that may still be wondering if link building is necessary. I asked Tony do, another link building expert at HubSpot, if backlinks are really that important for SEO, and his answer was 1000%. Google sees backlinks almost as sites vouching for one another as a trustworthy source. More backlinks to a site means that Google will more likely trust that site and will often be rewarded. When someone searches a relevant topic or question into Google, that specific page or domain is more likely to appear appear on the first two pages on Google. This leads to more organic traffic for a business, brand or company. This is how it impacts your SEO. Optimizing your site doesn't have to be hard, and HubSpot has really great tools that you can take advantage of for free to set yourself up for success. Don't forget to check the description box for all the links that I mentioned in this video. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you next time. Bye.
