TikTok vs YouTube which one should you be using for your business? Hey guys, It's Remy from HubSpot and today I'm breaking down the differences between TikTok and YouTube and why you might want to use one over the other depending on your business. Both platforms are really great and while it may seem like they're competing, they actually cater to different types of audiences. Consistency on either one can skyrocket your business. So let's get started on how TikTok and YouTube are different and which one you should choose to focus on. Business owners are now aware that in 2022, video content is taking over social media. YouTube is actually the second largest search engine in the world with about 3 billion searches per month. So more than likely, no matter what kind of business you have, YouTube has an audience for you on there. TikTok, on the other hand, launched in the US in 2017 and has seen tremendous growth since then. The platform actually started as Musical Ly, which was an app that you could go on and watch people lip sync and dance. It has now grown into a world of its own and it competes with social media giants like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Both TikTok and YouTube are creative hubs for just about anyone, but when it comes to growing a business on either one, it's important to have a strategy planned out if you want to see success. At HubSpot, we keep an updated social media trends report that keeps business owners ahead of the game by giving you all the information that you need to know about before investing your time, money and energy into to these platforms. YouTube is great for driving traffic, engaging with your audience and growing revenue since you can monetize your videos on there. Since it supports long form and short form videos, business owners have more flexibility with the types of content that they can create. You can create tutorials to help customers understand your products better, you can create commercials or campaigns to attract new customers, and you can even upload documentary style videos to give viewers an inside look at your company culture, product development, company events, etc. There are major brands out there that use YouTube regularly to do all of those things. Let's look at one of them. GoPro. GoPro currently has 10.6 million subscribers on their channel and they upload regular content showing things like new product launches, commercials, athletes using their equipment, and so much more from these videos. They're able to have clear call to actions by telling people to click to shop their products, click to subscribe, and leave comments if they have any questions. These are great strategies and tactics to engage your current clientele while growing and reaching new customers. Aside from having a channel for your brand, you can also create YouTube ads to reach a wider audience. Businesses can place their ads on niche specific content and grow their audience that way in order to see fast results. If you want to learn all about launching successful YouTube ads, I'm going to have a link down below to a HubSpot article that will really help you guys out. I'm also going to have a link to our digital marketing course that you can take to learn about things like growing a following online, creating ad strategies, and optimizing your content for search engines. Now that we've Learned about using YouTube for business, let's talk about TikTok. Right now, businesses have a great opportunity to reach a growing audience on this platform. If you're a business that has a younger customer base, then TikTok might just be your go to. This is an app that's all about trends, challenges and creativity. TikTok is a great place to start if you're looking to build your brand awareness. And if you only have the bandwidth to create short form videos, it really favors more casual videos so you don't need fancy equipment to get content up on your business page. It's also really easy to go viral on TikTok because if the algorithm sees people people engaging with just one of your videos, it'll show it to even more people and you'll see an increase in your followers and your watch time. Just like YouTube, businesses can create ads on TikTok for effective reach and audience engagement. I actually break down how to use TikTok ads for your business in this video right here, so make sure to click the link above if you want an in depth video on running ads on TikTok. So now that we've talked about using these two platforms for business, here are some final takeaways to help you decide which one to invest your time into first. It all depends on who your target audience is for your business. YouTube has a very diverse audience ranging from kids to baby boomers, so you're more likely to see higher conversion rates, especially if your target audience is older. For example, for millennials, 67% of consumption happens through YouTube because they are more driven by online reviews. This makes YouTube a great space to tap into to drive your consumers to purchase. TikTok, on the other hand, caters more to Gen Z and younger millennials, so if your target audience doesn't fit this demographic, then you may not see the conversions that you're looking for. TikTok does, however, have the highest engagement rates from users than any other social platform, so this makes it the go to app for building brand awareness. YouTube favors longer videos, while TikTok favors shorter videos. Both YouTube and TikTok allow you to create ads for your business and monitor your metrics. As you can see, both of these platforms are terrific for taking your business to the next level. You can definitely invest into both platforms, but if you're just getting started and not sure which one to tackle first, hopefully this video gives you some insight on the similarities and the differences between the two platforms.
