If you're anything like me, you probably don't think about your professional bio until you're suddenly asked to send one over. In this video, I'm going to teach you the best way to write a professional bio that gets noticed. A great bio will give you credibility and help you network in your industry. It can be used on your website, your LinkedIn, or even your social media accounts. The first step in writing your bio is to decide if you're going to be writing in the first or third person. If you're building your personal brand or working directly with clients, writing your bio in first person will give you a more relata and personable approach. So for example, if I was writing a short bio for myself, I would write something like Digital Marketer and content Creator who teaches people how to create marketing strategies to grow their business. This first person bio gives a reader context about my role and the results of my work. A third person bio is going to sound more formal and polished. This is perfect to use when job searching, applying for grants, trying to get published, or if you just want your bio to sound like a close colleague wrote it about you. Here's an example. Nancy Twine is the founder and CEO of Briogeo, a popular natural hair care line. She's no newcomer to the beauty sphere and has received rave reviews for taking hair care back to the basics. This bio speaks in a tone that emphasizes her expertise and leaves a more assertive impression. Both styles are effective and I actually recommend you have a version of each to use for different purposes. An easy way to write a great bio is choose a proven template. I'm going to show you how to write your bio using one of my favorites. You can download some of our best professional bio templates for free through a link in the description. I like to start by writing a bio in the third person. I also attempt to write a longer bio that can be used on my website or LinkedIn and then edit it down for my social media profiles. Let's write a professional bio for Nancy Twine using the third person Long form Template for over nine years, Nancy Twine has been a noteworthy leader in the hair care space. You may know her from her work as the CEO and founder at Briogeo, but Nancy can also be credited with being the youngest African American to launch a product line at Sephora and being a leading authority on green beauty. Nancy has been honored with being a judge for Forbes 30 under 30 and for her contributions to building a brand that values inclusivity. She holds a Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of Virginia and currently resides in Miami Beach, Florida. First we want to mention her years of experience, name and industry. Then we want to feature her role and company. It's also helpful to include a memorable fact about your work to highlight an accomplishment that you're proud of. Once your introduction is written, you then want to additional details. You should think about featuring awards, projects, or your education. If you want to add a sentence or two that describes your personality or who you are outside of work, you can do that as well. To be more relatable to the reader, your professional bio can live in multiple places, so it's crucial to craft a story that represents who you are and makes the reader care about what you have to offer. This is a reflection of your best professional self and for many it will be their first impression of you. So make sure you put your best foot forward with a top notch professional bio.
