AP & AD Udyr - Which Should YOU Build?

Perry Norman plays Udyr in League of Legends and breaks down when to build Attack Damage versus Ability Power. AD Udyr excels into mobile enemies while AP works better into immobile teams. The choice depends on enemy composition and your team's needs.

Hey guys, it's Perry Norman Norman. Today we have another Udyr video, but this time it's AP and AD Udyr, so not just one style of Udyr. A lot of you guys have been asking me, is AD Udyr just more broken than AP Udyr? That's not the case. They both have their good circumstances at which you take AD or AP Udyr. I'm gonna tell you guys, both builds are strong, and you go AD Udyr against very immobile targets that you can consistently hit and and kind of isolate and deal a lot of damage to. It's a high amount of damage, very strong, can solo carry games. But if the enemies have hard targets to hit, invis, range, or really, really, really tanky, or let's say you need a true tank on your team, like you have no frontline, you want to go AP Udyr because AP Udyr builds that defensive items. So there's different time and place for both builds. I'm personally trying a lot of AD Udyr because it's been really fun, but I will say after playing another AP Udyr game, I'm like, wow. AP Udyr is definitely really strong as well. There's a time and place for each build. Same thing with the Viego build, same thing with Diana build. A lot of the champions— Viego bruiser, Viego crit— that's just how the game works. Enough about other champions, let's talk about Udyr. Let's jump into the games. I hope you guys enjoy the video. Alright, let's full clear towards the bot side. We're playing around drakes. We scale nicely, so let's scale up. We will probably want to just do drake stacking, discipline, farm well. So I'm planning to like farm as efficiently as I possibly can. Okay, farm well, scale, play around Drakes. Top might go poorly, might go well, who fucking knows. I don't know if this is the right way to clear. I still don't— I still don't know how to properly use my, uh, the fucking Udyr clear. Uh, enemy jungler is clearing down, looks like, or he started that, I don't know. It actually was. Oh, okay, he's clearing down then. Bot lane's already winning. Okay, good. My mid got a solo bolo too. My mid's conditions are going to be worse than theirs, and I think my, my Lulu's in base, so I don't think I'm hitting this bot crab. I'm just going to go clear the top crab. I don't even know why I'm stunning that shit, as if the stun does anything. He's in the failure zone now. Okay, Lee Sin's overstaying bot lane, which is quite good for us. Should be able to recall here, buy the pickaxe, buy the boots. I wonder if I have to go defend my bot camp. I'd imagine so, but I'm not sure. Okay, that looks pretty depressing. Lee Sin's back to top camps. That's not good. I even got this guy's flash earlier. I have missed you. You cannot have run me. Okay, we're not winning that in a million years, so we just run to his top camps. At least we got his flash. He probably had some bot camps up, so he's gonna go for that. Kill that guy. I needed to awaken E there so he doesn't fucking kick me away. It's just full clear all the way down towards the bot side now. No fight in the top side, just farm. I don't even care about that, like, like, I just need to farm here. Nice. I don't want to reveal myself necessarily. Revealing myself there fucks my positioning here. And then we wouldn't have been able to make this play here. Let's go for his Raptor still. Enemy double kill. I don't think we're beating that guy unless we have our item, so let's just recall, complete our item, and then restart. The mid, the mid look was a waste of my time. Lowkey, a Sterak's seems pretty chill. Death's Dance, Sterak's. I think playing towards bot lane is better than trying to kill like Thanos up there. My boy does no damage. My boy does no damage. Let's go up towards topside. That's really sad. It is what it is there. Oh, maybe I should buy some— maybe I should have bought some anti-heal to deal with this guy. Bro, what am I doing? Why am I fighting that guy, bro? Oh my God, like, oh my God, bro. Ah, why am I fighting him, bro? The number one rule: don't fight the weakest team, don't fight with— don't fight with the weakest teammate. And I just did that. Honestly, any other champion I could probably manage, but it's fucking Illaoi. Getting tilted, I'm using my Awakening out of base. Okay, it's fine. We scale a bit. I don't know, my, my investor is just down 4 levels. Oh, as long as I'm not— as long as I'm not fucked out of my camps in the top side and bot side, and the Lee Sin's like AFK like he's been, we have a chance to win. We just need to fight around Echo. Man, he got my Raptor. Okay. We can get this in time. It's really good for us. Huge. It also counters our shutdown. Deflect the bounty for us. This Ekko's really fed too. How we doing? We're in a fucking hard game, bro. Look at their Illaoi. That's a raid boss. Wait, wow, that's huge, that's huge, that's huge! But like, wow, that guy is fucking strong. Oh, he has 2 items. Oh, I disrespected him at 2. No, that's just my bad then. I didn't see he had 2 there. Whoops, disrespectful. I mean, if he has 2 items, he can always do that. I mean, like, yes, I want to farm my top camps, but given how this Vladimir has been playing, I feel like we can kill this guy too. It's a vision with the bot side. I need to dodge that. Gotcha, got your ass, bro. I need to recall here, honestly. Let, let Illaoi do, do her thing. Let's go top lane for the Drake. Bro, they got nothing on me, bro. They actually have nothing on me. I, I don't know what the fuck is that damage, but like I just have this Lulu following me around. This is not normal. What the fuck is this? What the fuck, bro? I'm breathing on them. I'm literally breathing on them and they die. I'm breathing on them and they're fucking dead. How much AD right now? 300? Oh my God, oh my God, I'm going to breathe and they will die. I told you I'm going to breathe and they're going to die. They have that thing. Oh my God, oh my God, this is disgustingly strong. This is disgustingly strong. Holy fuck, that does not look balanced. Oh my God, did 30k damage. Oh, fuck, bro. I might have to change to AP Udyr. Yo, Tac, what's the AP Udyr runes? Oh, actually, Jungle Kingdom not GG. Jungle Kingdom not GG. Uh, tier list. Jungle Kingdom not GG tier list. Udyr. Uh, cut down. Uh, boots, root approach. Uh, do we want tenacity and slow? Ye ye ye ye ye ye yes. Alright, we're playing Udyr into Kha'Zix instead of going the dumb kind of AD Udyr. We're going AP Udyr, so we're going to be normal today. We're gonna full clear down towards the bot side. Nice and natural clear. The AP build is a bit different than the AD build. You are way tankier, you are way more of a frontline, you're not waiting the entire time to go in. Let's full clear all the way down towards the bot side. Uh, bot side is just like, like you guys see it every game pretty much. I'm like always playing towards the bot side. The bot side is just always going to be favorable for your games because you have 2 people down there, so you're impacting 2 lanes. And when you unlock your support around the map, you're able to capitalize more. So this game though, the Kalista and Alistar are generally going to be stronger than my Poppy and Lux. So it's a little bit rough. If the enemy jungler is pathing down, which he is, we see him starting his— or on his Raptors and he has red buff. So he's pathing down, I'm pathing down. If we see this, depending on bot lane conditions, you can see how we're pushing in right now. It might not stay like this forever, but if, if it does, then we can play for this bot crab. If it doesn't, then what I'm going to do is I'm gonna have to go ahead and look to go play for the top crab, which is completely fine. Don't ever feel bad to drop a crab to go for the other crab. A lot of people are very uncomfortable going for the opposite side crab, and I would say that that bites people in the ass, like, a lot. Like, always be willing to go to the opposite side crab because it's just very free and it doesn't ruin your game. When you, you know, take a crab fight and it just like, it just goes poorly, especially when you don't have prio in your lanes. You have to be really thoughtful of that. As you guys can see, like, we're not winning in the bot lane anymore at all. In fact, we're losing quite hard. And my Lux didn't even use Flash. They used all their sums. So now let's go for the top crab. Like, I already could predict that from the start of the game simply because of the champions we have and the champions they have. We are just generally weaker. I'm gonna follow my Jungle Kingdom guide. Okay, so we should buy Fated Ashes first back. We could buy Fated Ashes first back. That's actually generally not that bad, but I do like Ruby Crystal and like a Dark Seal if I'm going to be fighting, and if I know for a fact that like the enemies like will fight me. I don't know for a fact if they will, so I might not, um, necessarily worry about the Dark Seal. This does look pretty promising though. Sett has Flash Q. Beautiful. Okay, so because we got the Kha'Zix here, we got him killed. There's an opportunity to try to kill Rengar, and I'll tell you guys, even if we kill this guy, it might not fully be worth it. We see this guy here, we have to be careful. We have to buy a Dark Seal at this point. At exactly 11:50, it it's a little bit better to buy that instead. Um, if you have 1250, then do the Fated Ashes and then Dark Seal. Getting a Dark Seal early is great as long as you're disciplined with not getting yourself killed, which I will be very disciplined with. Now, the Alistar might be in the bush, like right here, trying to Hexflash over and try to kill my Urgot, but I don't actually care about that too much. I'm just gonna take my camps and full clear down. If I see the Alistar come, I'm gonna smite my camp I don't see him. Great. Let's look at mid. So that's not good, we gave him a blue buff. This guy is so annoying. Fuck you, bro. Stop that. Stop doing that. Keeps resetting. It keeps like making my camps harder to kill. Kalista has no flash, so in all honesty, we can just kill this guy here. Okay, this dragon is probably going to be theirs because my midlaner is getting ego gapped. Let's just recall. We're gonna scale this game. We can carry, we get strong. We're gonna buy the Fated Ashes and then go clear top down. Let's go for this top crab. Enemy jungler is very likely on the dragon. Maybe he's on the top crab. If he's on the top crab, it's actually good for us. If he's on the dragon, it's not great. Yeah, it's not great, but it is what it is. What can you do? So we do have 3 losing lanes now. I'll show you guys what do we do when we have the good old 3 losing lanes. Let's see what I can make happen in this game. Priority number 1 is don't fight around my losing lanes, my hard losing lanes at least, which is pretty much my mid is the hardest losing lane. So if I want to invade his red buff, it has to be because my Urgot can come. But Urgot can't come, as you can see, he's kind of stuck in the top lane. So there's no real way to enable my Urgot. So I'm just going to simply farm my camps and, you know, wait for the next best opportunity. Okay, let's go down. We're gonna keep clearing towards the bot side. I can't necessarily go help him there. It's really bad for my game if I drop my sequence, and I'm gonna prioritize my sequence over anything. Now the enemy bot lane looks like they're going to be playing up a bit aggressively given the situation that they're in. So I can definitely look here to see— Can fake it twice there. I faked my reset twice. Potentially I can come through bot lane. It is pink warded for us. Yo yo yo yo yo yo yo! No shit? There's no way that spots me right now. There we go, we have a perfect position. We used Fog of War literally perfectly there. Let's not overforce or dive, so let's ping ping ping a million times so they fucking know that the Kha'Zix invis can come and bite them. I don't even know for sure if Kha'Zix is there. Kha'Zix, for all we know, could be on the Grubbies, but I just have a good feeling he's in the bot side. So we almost have a completed item. We don't have it just yet because unfortunately we didn't get the gold for that play. But maybe this Kalista can give us some kill or give us like some gold here. Ult, ult, ult. Very good. Great, we got this kill. We needed that gold. Why did we do that? Why did we force that so hard? Why were we looking to make that play? It's really because we needed that gold for Liandry's. And now what we can do is we can buy components for Plated Steelcaps, and we're off onto the races of being full defensive, full like Dead Man's into— we don't really need a Force of Nature, but we can go Dead Man's Jack Show. We can just go pure defensive. Armor items from this point on. Here's the thing, I can help my top laner here for sure, but I definitely don't want to overdo it in the top side, uh, just because my bot lane is the one who's winning. With my double W, my healing from this, I'm giga strong. Beautiful. As you guys can see, I'm planning to use my double W there and not any other spells. As you can see in the fights and every point in these fights, double W is the key to winning here. Medjai, if you're a gigachad, I am in— I am interested in hard winning this game. Not losing, my friend. Double W not only heals on you, your next 2 auto attacks get empowered healing too. It is crazy. Should you join the Jungle Kingdom? Join, bro. You want to climb in League of Legends? I got you. Jungle Kingdom is the place to be if you want to climb. You're serious about the climb. Okay, let's play for the objectives here. Win this game, I join immediately. All right, the game's over, bro. If you're part of Jungle Kingdom, you get access to daily group coaching, a, uh, the full access to the League Knowledge Trainer, um, about 2,000 VODs of coaching. So that's like, yeah, just, just do the math. That's, that's thousands of hours of content that you can watch and go through and see what you can learn on your specific champion. And, um, yeah, I'll see you guys in the Jungle Kingdom. Oh, top lane looks pretty winning for us, which is really good. Okay, bot lane looks pretty winning for us too. Zed traded 1 for 1 in the mid lane. My bot lane won a something, So here's the thing, his Krugs are coming up and I am really fed. Fuck, I need to run here. Good thing it should be really hard for them to chase me. Peace out, Lemon Scout. Oh shit, yo, I didn't think Kalista was coming too. I'm going to be for real, I egoed really hard there to make the game entertaining for you guys. It was actually all intentional, plus I didn't think Kalista was going to be there. And Rengar ulted there too. Like, it is what it is. All right, let's full clear down top. Down, we still are ahead by a lot right now. We're really, really, really fed. Lux is probably a goner. Lux is barely— Lux actually lives. Yo, I'd be so mad if I'm them here. Okay, I, I thought my burn would kill him. I thought I was gonna do the fadeaway burn. Okay, that's more shutdowns for them. So like that, there's ways for them to come back into this game because we're playing a bit sloppily, but we should be able to win nice and easily. Let's go to our top camps. Let's see what Rengar is up to. Okay, we're teeping in as well, so just stand still and burn his ass. Bro, it's just like an ego thing to chase the enemy jungler and kill him like that. Want to play for this next dragon as well. Ideally they FF this game because there's a play going on bot lane. We want to go make pressure in the other side of the map. They're TPing in. While this is happening, I'm just gonna take his camps, why don't I? Fuck, that also got me. I used the wrong spell there, I didn't use my awakened W. As you guys know, the awakened W is giga, giga broken, and I did not use it there. Should still be fine. We're going to get a lot. Look, we'll, we'll still win the situation, but like, it's a bit troll of me to not use my weakened W there. They want to play to win this game, so I should really play with some more respect. They're not FFing, which means like they're genuinely trying to win the game. This draft looks unlosable. It, it really does, I'm going to be honest. And given how we already have a lead, like I'd be very surprised if we do manage to lose, given the fact that my Lux just one-shot that Kha'Zix as well. It's a bit impressive. Okay, let's go play for this Drake after our full clear. The full clear is really important because the Drake's not going anywhere. You want to get strong if you can, uh, and then that way you're not going to be behind in the game. This way I'm the same level as my carries. Oh, some, some Rengar is ulting or something. Sorry, what am I doing? Wait, what am I doing? I just lost my mind there. Lowkey, I just lost my mind. I'm literally falling asleep or something, like Oh damn. All right, we're making the game more entertaining, that's for sure. Like, the game's look— the game's looking too easy for my, for my teammates, so we have to give them a little bit of a challenge. I mean, it's, it's still too easy for them. All right, let's go for the Baron. Yo, they go for the Dragon. My fault, team. My fault, team. So apparently Rengar W just completely stops Urgot like ulti. That's pretty OP. I guess you can do that with GP cleanse as well. Like, does that mean QSS works against Urgot, guys? Do you guys know? That wouldn't make much sense. Urgot's getting jumped here. Uh-oh. Quadra kill! Let's get the Baron now. Nice, we put in work there. We made— we used our W correctly there and we didn't overextend. The way you look at APU Deer is he is a sturdy electrical fence and you can't move the fence, but if they come into you like they were They're freaking— they're fucked. So Udyr is one of those champions where if they come to you, you're happy. If they run away from you, well, you can sort of chase, but like normally you don't want to. At this point, we don't need to farm anything. Farming is pointless if we— when we can try to progress and end the game. What do you think is better, AD or AP? Uh, just like the game depends. Like all of these builds where it's like you have options, it really just depends on the type of comp everyone has. What the hell? Yo, yo, yo, team! My teammates just hit me in there, bro. Holy moly, holy moly. My guy's going for the wave, but it's not enough. That's it, guys. Oh, this game was like— it was 24 minutes. It was still good, like still a chill game. This Lux played giga well. This Lux giga carried. I inted like twice. And that's that, guys. Kha'Zix, stupid Kha'Zix, taken down with AP Udyr. Perry makes it look so easy because he's got 3 arms. Yeah, I get to feed myself while I'm playing. You guys wish, bro.
