The 2 Rules I Use to Win Losing Games (Jungle VOD Review)

Perry Norman reviews a League of Legends jungle game where his team came back from a big deficit. He breaks it down into two rules: exploit gaps in the enemy's vision to catch out-of-position players, and create numbers advantages in fights. He shows how shifting from passive farming to actively hunting unwarded paths turned the game around.

Hey guys, it's Perry. Today I'm going to do a VOD review for you guys talking about the high-level concepts I use to turn a pretty hard losing game into a winning game. Okay, so this is going to be a new style of review. Let me know if you guys like this, want more of this. The main concepts I applied here were playing for myself, playing through the strong lane, and picking the enemies off when they're mispositioned. And so you're not AFK farming, you're not just doing nothing all game, you're finding windows to make opportunity and make things happen. This game, just to be— just, just so you guys see, we were down around 3.1k gold. We turned things around ever so slightly. We're still down 1k, 1.4, 1.6, 0.9, and then boom, we have a massive gold swing and we now have the massive lead. And so I want to show you guys what happened in the early game and then what happened throughout the game and why things kind of went bad and then what to do. So first things first, I get invaded in the bot side. My bot lane has no priority. The enemy bot lane has giga prio. And so I lose a red buff to start off the game. Not the best. I proceed to go towards the mid lane and we look for a nice little skirmish. And I know I need to do something here to get some juice back on our hands here. So I find a nice angle on this Pantheon using my tempo advantage. I try to position correctly to kill this guy. We don't kill him, uh, or eventually this happens. We kill him. And I try to get the LeBlanc here to Q flash. I miss my auto. I I pick up the Pantheon. I go back in. Okay, we don't kill the Nidalee. Fuck. Maybe we could have killed Nidalee. It ends up being a 2-4-3, and that's like okay odds. I run straight to the top camps. I grab my crab. He contests. I win a smite fight. It's completely chill stuff. And what ends up happening here is we end up taking a 2v2 fight, and I have a Fizz confident we can win early. I actually got a lot of the gold there from Treasure Hunter, so I have. I feel pretty good in terms of my items compared to Pantheon's. And so we're fighting, and the main reason why we're fighting is not necessarily to kill them, but so I can play for this camp respawns if possible. And so, so the LeBlanc ends up killing herself. Great, we got a kill. And then I end up contesting the Raptors for a bit. None of this is too bad for the game. The game starts getting really bad right around here. I want to show you guys where the game gets pretty shit. I go for another round of clearing. I go for an invade. And so we go for some aggressive play. I go for an invade and we end up all dying. And so then it ended up being like a 2 for 3 and my bot lane got 2v2 killed. So my bot lane— oh, sorry, 1v2 killed. So my, my, the Jinx 1v2'd my bot lane and we ended up trading kills on the top side. And so the game is looking pretty fucking grim. As you can see, it's like, fuck, like the Jinx is Thanos. My mid is like, mid is like fine. Their mid laner proceeds to get like 4 more kills. And so this LeBlanc is just Thanos. Okay, let's jump into the mid game and see like, how do we come back into this game? Oh yeah, look at this. Look at what this LeBlanc did for me. This, this, this was just fucked up. Look at this shit, guys. LeBlanc, bang, bang, bang. I'm like, okay, I can win her, I can win. Instead. And so the LeBlanc ended up getting a bunch of free kills and my top laner gets solo killed. And so the game is feeling a lot harder. Now, at this point in the game, what you're looking for is holes in their vision. And so I want you to look at the map here, and I want you to look at their Nidalee. So their Nidalee was balling. As you can see, I'm going to pull up the big screen here. The Nidalee was balling, and she ended up surviving, I believe. Yeah. So she didn't die. She ran away and she lived. And so Nidalee doesn't have any vision or will have vision here in the Krug wall and possibly in the bush right here. So as you can see, What do I see here? I end up looking for a— I don't even— do I even sweep? Yeah, there we go. So we see a ward. Okay, fine. I see another ward here. Fine. And Nidalee ends up showing mid lane on the top side. So that means that very likely the entire bot side is warded and we actually have vision here. Now, this is the first mistake that the enemies make. I'm not just AFK farming my camps here. I'm looking for a window where they're mispositioned or they're not properly warding, they're not properly setting up. And so I know that the entire bot side is not lit up. And the Nidalee doesn't go for vision, the Nidalee just hits the turret. We have Nautilus hexflash, and then boom, it begins. So we found a nice angle, we killed the Nidalee, and then we killed the Jinx. And you'll see that I'm looking for plays like this over and over and over again. And so I come out of base here, look at my positioning, look at my pathing. I'm running over here, I'm watching the Nidalee where she warded. I saw a ward there. I sweep through and there's no wards, there's no wards, there's no wards, there's no wards. Okay, boom, I'm in a great position. Then Nidalee walks forward, boom, I catch her. I can ult if I need to, but I just use my Smite and then I end up chilling here. I go clearing some more vision. So now they're like, they've been trying to stop me from doing this. They have wards here, so I'm gonna clear the wards. Their Jinx decides to 1v2 again, ends up doing some braindead shit, gets caught. And here's where the game really like Opens up for us. And you can sort of see here out of base, I could have just gone to my red buff Krugs and waited there and SQ'd, but I found a hole in their vision and I looked to punish them when they have no setup. And so we go, we end up fighting mid lane. The Jinx, look at her, just like fucking brain dead. I don't know what the fuck you're doing. Ends up getting completely stomped here. I end up getting the reset. Great. The Pantheon is overextending, trying to fight. I don't know what the fuck this is. And we end up killing the Pantheon. And then the LeBlanc loses her mind here as well. LeBlanc's like, oh, I want, I want a part of this. I charge W. Um, she gets one kill. Fizz comes. Fizz is here. Yo, I'm here. And we end up getting another, uh, shutdown here. And then we end up killing the Nidalee as well, even though I die. Nidalee's dead here too. And then boom, you can sort of see how the game has stabilized. And we have used holes in their fog of war To punish the enemies. And I'm going to go forward to another position where the same concept applies, where they have holes in their fog of war setup. And so I want you to watch the map here. The Nidalee is in the bot side. She's right here. She's in the bot lane. She's on the Dragon. And if we continue playing this game, I'm going to go towards the top side. The Nidalee is— has helped, if you look in the top right, has helped the Pantheon on the Dragon. So that means Nidalee is in the bot side here. And so We see Nidalee again in the bot lane. So there's no vision in the top side. They have no information up here. And so I'm going to use that hole again. Nidalee came from the bot side and I'm going to use that hole to apply more pressure again towards the mid lane. Look at this Nidalee. She does— she goes for a ward very late. She might not even have wards because she's using the bot side and that allows me to apply pressure. And these guys are walking too far forward. So we end up— we're able to get another free kill on this Jinx. And there will be times where people just overextend and do this. And I would have done the same thing to kill their Zed, to kill their bot lane, to kill anybody. I'm just looking for holes in their vision. LeBlanc goes forward here, does some shenanigans. I'm waiting here to see if there's any opportunity for us. It doesn't look like there's much. Pantheon's ulting and I leave here. Give up the fights that seem bad. The Pantheon flashes over. I see an angle. I take a kill. And like, I'm like, I'm evaluating. Does this look good? Does this look bad? This is pretty bad. I end up going back in. This is a bit stupid of me. I thought that ult would reach. Pretty dumb. But all ends up being not the end of the world because I end up getting the LeBlanc killed with GP ult. So it wasn't a good— it wasn't the best, but not the worst. The game progresses. My teammates win a random fight. But the main part that matters is a numbers advantage here. So Fizz got a shutdown in the bot lane or got a kill on the Jinx. The LeBlanc and the Nidalee are in the bot side killing her. That means that we have 4 people mid and they have at most 2. And so depending on what they do mid lane, we have a numbers advantage because we see LeBlanc and Nidalee in the bot side. And so we see Pantheon now. And so the only person that can be somewhere is the Zed. And so Zed comes here, we take a Blast Cone and we end up killing the Zed. Now, very important, Viego mains, take the kill if you can. I use my Smite, I get the kill. Great. And then we're looking to apply pressure even though we're as 3, it's a 3v3. Because I have a reset here, we take another kill. I have a heal for Nautilus. Beautiful. And this is just like good fighting overall. Um, this Pantheon like leveled up in fight, I guess. The guy's so tanky. We got 4 kills and the game is back in our hands. So we've applied 2 things over and over and over again in this game: numbers advantage, and we've applied fog of war rules, right? So finding holes in their fog. And so here, this is just like team fighting. There's nothing crazy happening here. But right here, look at this. My Nautilus is positioning in this way. I E through here. And as me playing Viego, I know my fog of war lines. And so look, look at what I'm doing from the start here. I know that they have control, so I'm playing a little bit safe. I heal back to full HP with the fruits. I am looking to get control. I'm looking to get control. I E here. I evaluate. I see what's happening. I get hit by this fucking dumb, dumb thing. Whatever. I hit the cone. We're getting vision. We're getting control. We're not just doing camps. My Wolves, my Gromp are up, but I have my items. I want to fight. I need control. And so here I'm faking that I'm with Nautilus, but I'm not. Nidalee is trying to clear a ward. We kill the Nidalee and then the game kind of just dissolves for them. We're able to pressure mid. We keep going forward. I don't get myself killed. I walk backwards. I'm kiting backwards. I'm going slow. I'm waiting. And we end up killing the Pantheon as well. Zed dies here too. And then we kind of just explode the Nexus. Even though they had such a good game going for themselves, we were able to make progress in this game. Again, applying 2 rules: fog of war, punching those small mistakes that they're making, that the support makes. Even, even like laners can do this as well. And then numbers advantage when the time comes. This also really depends on the champion you are playing. In general, in solo queue though, fog of war advantages, numbers advantages, that's how you win. Whether you're playing a bruiser, whether you're playing Graves, whatever it is, that's how you want to set things up. It's also very champion dependent. This game had a Nautilus and I had GP, Fizz on the side. So my side lane has not much setup. They have a Zed. Let's imagine that I had an Ornn against a, say, Malphite. Now Malphite has ulti to escape, but my Ornn has so much CC, so much follow-up. Maybe I'm playing not Viego but a Karthus. Something that deals more damage, AP damage. Or let's say it's an Ornn versus an Anivia top lane. We've been seeing that, or Varus top lane, even easier to see, right? Then I would play to pressure the top lane Ornn side a lot more. But in this case, I have a Nautilus Vel'Koz who can set me up very nicely. So I'm playing through them in this game. I hope you guys enjoyed this type of review. I hope you guys got to see or learn a thing or two about what to do in hard games. There's no easy way to win a hard game. You have to problem solve and find small windows where they're making mistakes. If you guys enjoyed, do me a favor, leave a like, comment, subscribe.
