STOP Building Viego WRONG! Explaining The 3 Viegos

Perry Norman breaks down three Viego builds: Conqueror for tankier enemies, Hail of Blades for one-shotting squishies, and Bruiser for survivability. He gives concrete item paths for each, explains when to use them based on enemy comp, and shares his Challenger climb with HoB.

Everybody keeps asking me, what are the different Viego builds? Are they even viable? Does it make sense? I have people in my chat saying Electro says that Hail of Blades and other builds are just bullshit and people should just stick to Conqueror. So many times people are like, yo, this is bullshit. Hail of Blades is real. It doesn't work. In this video, I'm going to go through the 3 different builds. There's a Conqueror build, the Hail of Blades build, the Bruiser build. When to go with them. What the thought process is, why it's actually viable in some games. Not every game, but why it's viable in some games. And then we'll talk about some situational items like Blade of the Lunar King, Triforce. Everything else is kind of just bullshit. Uh, I will say these are probably your main items. I'm gonna add this, like, BS item is going to be Yuntal, and I'll show you guys a little bit more about Yuntal in a little bit. But yeah, let's jump in and let me just show you guys real quick my account right now where I am playing a bunch of Halo Blades Viego. And you guys are looking and you're seeing how I am actually making it work right now. I'm climbing to Challenger on this account. This is proof that me as a Challenger player is playing Viego with this Hail of Blades build to get back to Challenger. So I am making it work to get to Challenger. And that's just like, I want you guys to see like there's proof. Okay, but now let's talk about like how it actually works. So the standard Conqueror build, or actually let's just talk about like fun, like Viego fundamentals, pretty much like number 1 is we are trying to get resets in fights. Number 2, we are trying to deal as much damage in fights. And number 3 is we are using Fog of War and positioning to find angles in fights. So this is all the conditions to Viego, right? So we want resets, we want to deal damage, and we want to use good positioning and you use Fog of War. So all of these builds, there's a reason for every single one. Okay, the Conqueror build is Kraken into Collector into like LDR/Shieldbow into like Death's Dance/Wits, right? Pretty standard itemization. Now when would I go Conqueror? So here's the breakdown between Conqueror versus Hail of Blades because the goal between the two is the same, to one-shot. So the difference with the HOB build is you're going Collector into Shieldbow and then into IE into LVR, and this gives you 100% crit. So let's talk about HOB real quick. HOB is good because you get more damage. Viego gets more damage on his Q and his R from crit. That's why Viego's crit is good, and crit was recently buffed along with Viego's crit damage. So Viego was buffed crit was buffed. Everything Viego related is like buffed. Okay, so back to the Collector point. So Kraken is really good if, if you need to deal with a lot of damage consistently, like in fights. For example, if we have a game that I go Conqueror here, a game like For example, if we have a game like this where they have a Sejuani, Lee Sin, Alistar. So champ examples: Sejuani, Lee Sin, Alistar. I can't one-shot these champions, but I do want to deal a lot of damage and kill them. So Kraken Collector's Shieldbow is still the build I'll go to kill these guys, but like, I can't one-shot them. So when do I go Hail of Blades? If you can one-shot someone with the extra crits and faster damage. So champ examples would be in this game we have Aphelios, Ekko, Mel, and Caitlyn, right? Aphelios, Ekko, Mel, Caitlyn. All those champs are one-shotable. This game there's a Teemo, Lee Sin, Viktor, Smolder, Nami, all one-shotable. Lee Sin, eh, okay. This, this game up here where I have dropped 21 kills, they have a Qiyana, Taliyah, Yone, Kennen, Sona. You can one-shot them. The thing about the one-shot build that you need to think about, you'll be really, really, really aware, is if you do not one-shot them in the— with the first— with your first combo, that is okay. Use your next hob rotation. It's a, it's, it's a 10-second cooldown, or less in fact. So you go in, try to one-shot them. If you don't one-shot them It's okay. I'm gonna show you guys an example of what Hob Collector looks like on Viego when you are this powerful. Alright, here's an example, guys, where I have Collector. The enemy Kha'Zix is full HP, he jumps me, and he gets completely one-shot like it's nothing. Like, the speed that that guy died in was so fast there because of the Halo of Blades combo and the fact that I have Collector as my first item, which gives me that lethality. Because enemies are squishy, especially in the early game, your power spikes are stronger. HoB is generally just really, really, really, really, really powerful. Okay, let's look at some more games where HoB is actually suboptimal and you shouldn't go HoB. You actually want to go for a Conqueror setup. So this game I'm going Conqueror because they have a Garen, they have a Shen, so 2 hard champions to kill, and then they have a Talon and a Katarina. So Talon and Katarina are hard champs to jump on. They're hard to one-shot generally because they're so versatile and squishy, the only real target I have is like Ashe. And you want to go Hail of Blades if they have 3 or more, um, squishy champs that you can one-shot. If they don't have 3 or more squishy champs that you can one-shot, then don't go for this Hail of Blades one-shot build. Okay, so that's the difference. Like, Conqueror build is very good, but so is this Hail of Blades build. And it really depends game to game when you want to go each individual build. Like, it really, really, really is flexible. So like this game here, I also go Conqueror. It's a loss because I had 9 deaths, 6 deaths, 6, 11. So don't mind the scores of my team, but they have a Briar, so I need consistent damage. So we go Kraken. We have a— they have a Sion. We need consistent damage. We have the Kraken and then Ivern shielding, and then Bard generally buys tanky items too. Like it's a Dead Man's. So that's where Conqueror comes into like play here. So then you have champions like Sion, Briar, Ivern. What frontline? Bard. And now let's talk about the last and final build, which is the bruiser examples. So bruiser is, as a build, is your goal is to stay, is to stay alive and collect resets at the end of fights and be a frontline for your team. So here's a bruiser Viego game where I won and it's pretty, pretty straightforward. Okay, so Ambessa, Lissandra, Jinx, and Blitzcrank. So on paper, we don't need the frontline, okay? Because we have the Ambessa, we have the Blitz. Now, they're not tanky teammates, but there's some frontline. Okay, so the reason why I need to go bruiser this game is because if we look at their champs, Vladimir, hard to kill, not very easy to kill. He has his pull. I'm not going to be able to get the free kill. Jayce will one-shot me. It's like playing against a Talon. Talon will one-shot you, but Jayce as a champion does so much damage. Ahri has dashes. Leona is impossible for me to kill. Smolder I can kill as, oh, the crit champion, but if I get the Smolder, get the reset, I'm going to die to everyone else. So I can't really kill many of them because I will die in return. Like, in the process, I will probably die. So instead of trying to assassinate people this game, I'm going to try to be a little tankier and I'm gonna try to have more options in the fight rather than just die right away. Okay, so the, the another thing is if the enemies, if the enemies are truly too hard to kill, Bruiser tends to give you more value because you stay alive and can collect resets later on in the fights. Also, what's really important about Bruiser Viego is if the enemies have 3+ tank champs, you aren't getting resets anyway. So that's pretty much the difference between the 3 main builds. I would say if we were to like break it down into like ratios of like when each— like, like how much of the time am I going Conqueror? So Conqueror is going to be like 30% of your games. Hail of Blades, especially in lower elos, is probably going to be like 60% of your games. And then, um, the, the Bruiser build is going to be like 10% of your games. Um, so 1 out of every 10 games you might get a Bruiser game. 6 out of every 10 of your games you're probably playing Hob. And then 30% of the time 3 out of every 10 of your games, you're probably playing Conqueror. Okay, so like Bruiser, like you're not really doing that often, but when you do, you're gonna get a lot of value. Same thing with the Conqueror, same thing with Hop. Okay, let's talk about real quick the situational items. Blade of the Ruined King is very specific. Only if you are playing versus HP stackers that don't build armor/MR. So very specifically, and we are going Bruiser Viego. You need to be going Bruiser and there needs to be champions that that are HP stackers that don't build a lot of armor/MR. So what do I mean by this? Pretty much I'm thinking about champions like— good versus champs like Mundo, Sion, Sejuani, because those champs are trying to buy like Heartsteel and like Warmogs and like Titanic Heartsteel on the Mundo. But like in general, like I would avoid doing this build because you have to also lock into bruiser and that doesn't really feel good because chances are they have a Mundo and then they have 4 squishies. So just kill the squishies. So like you don't need to focus on the middle. But if they have like 3 melee champs, if they have like 3+ melee tanky HP stackers, uh, then it's like, okay, you're going bruiser and you can go Blade of the Ruined King. Triforce is only if you're going— if you are going for bruiser and you are going to be— and you're going to be needing more HP for the fights. Kraken is generally more damage with bruiser. You can go Kraken, Sunderer's Sky. I actually didn't write that in the builds. Fuck. Kraken, Sunderer's Sky. Here's where things can get interesting. It's like you can go for Black Cleaver, Death's Dance, Wits. You could go for a Sterak's. You can go for any kind of bruiser item really. But these are probably like the most solid. Like in any case, you can go for LDR. If you want more, some more damage, you don't need to be as tanky. Sunward Sky alone is a pretty good item. But yeah, these are like the situations where like I'm doing which build. All right, now I'm going to show you guys some other examples of like whether or not the build is correct from my students' accounts. So like this game, for example, there's a Zhen, Vi, Ahri, Vayne, Morgana. Like you're going to go crit anyway. This game you can most definitely go for the Hail of Blades build. You have Vayne, Ahri, and Morgana as pretty easy targets. And then Zhen and Vi are bruiser champions. They're not hard tanks. This game is a Kindred, Vex, Caitlyn, Lux, Hail of Blades. This game is Vayne, uh, Malphite, Sylas, Leona, Caitlyn. So there's 3 melee champions, 2 tanks. Depending on if Malphite goes tank or AP changes my build. Honestly speaking, this game you can either go bruiser or you can go Hail of Hail of Blades or Conqueror. It just depends on how you want to play and what your teammates want. So this game specifically, I have a Zed, Annie, and Smolder. They want a frontline champion on the team. So this game I probably would go Bruiser. But like, let's say your teammates don't have a lot of damage, then I need to go Hail of Blades. Or let's say we have a lot of CC, then I could go Kraken. So I can— if I can hit them constantly, if they're CC'd, if they're CC'd, I can keep hitting him, then boom, the Conqueror and the Kraken value gets really, really, really high. This game there is a Yorick, Nunu, Xin Zhao. There's 3 melees already, so I'm thinking about bruiser, I'm thinking about Conqueror because we need to consistently damage them. We have a Sion, that's enough frontline. Boom, I'm going to go Conqueror, Kraken, Collector, and don't do the regular build from there. So that's how you do it. Like, this game is not a bruiser game because one, The Nunu, Xin Zhao, and Yorick aren't true tanks. So it's not like they're true tanks anyway. Look, Nunu's going AP, Xin Zhao's going AP, Yorick's buying like bruiser items. Two, we actually have a tank from the Sion. So let's look at another game. We have Shen, Nocturne, Ahri, Cait, Lux, 3 squishies, Hail of Blades, Nocturne, bruiser-ish champion, Hail of Blades is also pretty easy. This game here, they have a Sett, Warwick, Maokai, and then Lux and Smolder who are very hard to kill. In this game, we don't have that much CC from our teammates. We actually have a lot of range from the Ziggs and Ashe. Yasuo has not a lot of CC and Galio can provide CC, but in reality, killing Warwick, Maokai, and Sett as the Galio, you're going to have a hard time. The most optimal build here is either go Hail of Blades one-shot the Lux and Smolder and pray, or go for a bruiser build, Kraken, Sundered Sky, you know, you get like from the rest, it's like any bruiser item. Depending on this game, this game like Tenacity is pretty good. So maybe Sterak's. They're buying armor, you could go Black Cleaver, maybe a Titanic as well could work. Okay, then we have like another count here where this person is buying Yuntal. So this is the forbidden item. Please don't buy Yuntal. Yun Tal works in very, very, very, very, very niche scenarios where you want to go max crit and you want the attack speed. So the only scenario where Yun Tal is decent is if you need to crit the enemies multiple times, and like, it's like a Blade of the Ruined King alternative. But like, most cases you're not going to find any value in Yun Yuntal, it's more expensive, harder to ramp. There was a point in time where I thought Yuntal was better, and that's, that's my mistake. I think Yuntal has like had its playability, but that's before I just like, I really thought about it. Collector is better with Hail of Blades. The reason why Collector first item sucks is because you don't have enough attack speed, but with Hail of Blades you have plenty of attack speed. So that's why Like, I decided that Yuntal is bullshit now and Halo Blades like fixes everything. Next thing here is very, very standard stuff again. Just everyone's going Conqueror. You could do more Halo Blades. Like, that's the only like biggest thing that people could do more of is like, look, they have a Talon, Lucian, Nami. Like Lucian, Nami are one-shottable. Nocturne is probably going to be easy for you to kill too. If you go for the Collector Halo Blades, you have a much easier time one-shotting people in this game as well. Specifically the, the Twitch and the Jinx, they should get one-shot. They should all get one-shot. Boom. Halo Blades would be able to make that happen. All right guys, I'm gonna put this notepad here into a little Google Docs and you guys can take a look at that in the comments below if you want to like follow my quick little notes and see how that works. Uh, but hopefully you guys enjoyed this video, enjoyed the style. I know it's not fancy, there's no B-roll, there's no thing like— maybe there's B-roll, I don't know, maybe I can ask my editor to cook. But like, anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed. If you did, definitely let me know. Give me some more feedback on this type of content and I will see you guys in the next video. Leave a like, comment, subscribe. Peace, peace.
