The Only JUNGLE GANKING Guide You Will EVER Need

Perry Norman teaches League of Legends junglers how to gank based on minion wave position instead of guessing. Watch for enemy minion count, cannon timing, and turret proximity to predict when opponents commit to a wave, then strike. Five gameplay examples show the decision-making process across different champions.

How to properly gank enemy laners is such an important concept. It's what's allowing me to get this guaranteed kill right here. Xin Zhao has no escape, and I calculated this 30 seconds in advance to guarantee me this kill. It's what's allowing me to literally drop 20+ kills in my Challenger games. As you can see, 20 kills here, 26 kills here. We even have a game where we're carrying Doublelift with 24 kills in here. So this is— these are like Challenger, high-tier level games, and we're dropping so, so, so, so, so many kills. So what we're going to talk about today is how to gank based off of wave states. We're going to talk about the techniques we use to figure out when to properly gank, and I'm going to show you guys 5 examples like that example just now I showed you as to understanding what wave states really mean and like how to use wave states to get these kills so you can start dominating your games. All right, let's jump right into it. All right, so the first thing I want to break down with you guys is the 3 different types of ganking. Okay, so there's 3 main ones. You have the ganking, the basic gank, where you are pretty much ganking your laner when they're playing defensively. So if your teammate has a wave that's under their turret like this, or like on their side of the map, you can gank them. And that's like a natural game— like, that's like what natural gank looks like. Like, I'm going around here, I'm going to gank you. I'm going to go through here, I'm going to gank you. A lot of you guys understand ganks like that, but there's two other things that you need to understand that have to do with ganking and getting pressure when you are playing to, you know, dominate on wave states. Let's say our wave state is actually pushed into them. You're still trying to impact top lane, and you want to make sure you can do something for your top laner. So generally, when you see a position like this, when your wave is going into them, you can do one of two things. You can either A, counter gank. sit in a bush here, sit in a bush here. And when the enemy jungler thinks the exact same thing, "Ooh, let me gank the top laner," boom, you're there to stop them. And generally when you counter gank, you win the fights. And B, you can go ahead and dive the enemy top laner. So let's say the enemy jungler is actually in the bot side and this guy's under his turret by himself and it's a 2v1 and your top laner is already winning. It's a very high chance that you're able to get a dive onto the enemy top laner. So those are your 3 options when interacting with wave states.. It's generally gank, counter gank, or dive. And most of the time you're going to see me use gank examples, but don't forget that you all— you always can counter gank as well, and you can always look for dive plays based off of wave states. What I'm really looking for, guys, is I'm making my plays based off what the wave looks like. So if the wave is under my turrets like this, and I am looking to try to make a play play here. I'm always looking at like the wave, and I'm not necessarily looking at this guy or this guy. I'm looking at the wave. What do I mean by this? So if the enemy top laner has a few minions he needs to kill, let's say there's like 4 minions here he needs to kill them. My top laner is going to sit here and try to freeze the wave when the enemy top laner tries to push in. That's my opportunity to gank. When laners are hitting waves, when laners are hitting cannons especially, that's your time to go. So I'm literally waiting for opportunity for when the enemy laners are hitting minions. That's my go window. A lot of you guys aren't actually looking at what the enemy laners are hitting or what they're doing, so your gank windows are really, really, really bad. I'm gonna jump into some examples and show you guys exactly what I'm talking about that's generating me these free kills and that's allowing me to find really good plays that again is dropping me or getting me 20+ kills in my games.
But first, let me introduce you to this video sponsor, Logitech G. There's no feeling worse than missing your skillshot shots in any League of Legends match, except maybe having it in 2 minutes.
Missing your skill shots is usually caused by poor cursor accuracy and placement.
Logitech G has the perfect mouse, Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2C, to help you with your cursor accuracy and placement no matter what game you play. It's extremely light and easy to use and has zero delay despite the mouse being wireless. The battery life also goes up to 95 hours, which is usually my biggest concern with wireless mouses. Depending on your current setup, this Logitech G mouse can improve your gameplay massively. As a pro player, I've always used Logitech mouses and I've absolutely loved how they feel. I started off by using the Logitech G502 Hero, and it's been a great 3 years, but I've switched to the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2C, which I'm absolutely loving. Thank you so much, Logitech G, for sponsoring this video, and let's jump back into it.
All right guys, let's jump into our first example here. We see Renekton in the top lane hitting a wave, and right now we have 4 of my allies in the bot side. Okay, everyone is in the bot lane, my gankplanks included. Right now, this Renekton feels like it's very easy to go pressure the top turret, and especially this wave right here. As you can see, I am looking at the wave and I'm realizing Renekton wants this wave very badly. I'm fed as hell. I know I can kill him. I'm going to beat him in a 1v1.
So boom!
We find ourselves a nice free little kill here because we are watching what the enemy Renekton is doing. We know what the enemy Renekton is thinking and we're basing it off of waves. People want to look for waves.
Yeah?
Let's jump straight back into another example of killing the enemy top laner. Top laners love dying to this. I don't know why. But this Rumble needs to clear a full cannon wave right here in the top side. He must clear that cannon wave or else he will get frozen on and he's just gonna bleed minions. And who wants to just lose free minions? He wants to push up and get this wave. I know this. I skip my camps. I'm not clearing any of those camps and I'm getting a free guaranteed kill onto this Rumble. That's how you get kills, guys. You can— as you can see on the map, I've skipped multiple camps here, but I'm only skipping them because I know for a fact the enemy laner is going to play for that wave. All right guys, we have another example where it's a similar thing. The enemy top laner is here. He knows that pretty much all of my allies are in the bot side, and he really wants to grab this wave. I know he wants this wave, so I'm bolting it at the top side right now. I'm looking at him the entire time. I know I'm stronger than him. I'm going to be able to beat him. And even if it runs away like he is right here, I will make it to him in time because he needs to take the time to clear the entire wave. So boom, we find the Xin Zhao. It's a free guaranteed kill. And that's how I keep generating so many kills in my matches, guys. All right, guys, here we have a pretty interesting example where the enemy Xin Zhao is going to be playing for this wave. He wants to clear this wave because he's getting pressured really, really, really hard. And at some point he will go for this cannon. When he goes for this cannon, he kind of needs to trade back. So he goes in here, tries to jump the Teemo, and he's like, "Oh shit, Viego's here." I get a perfect W flash combo on him and we get a guaranteed kill. Again, I'm basing it off of the waves. They are focused on the waves, and because I know they're focused on waves, I am going to be able to print myself kills. All right guys, let's move to one of my favorite examples here of me counter ganking. So as you can see, I'm kind of dancing around here trying to find my position, and then I realize You know, Gangplank wants to be here. This is a good idea. Okay, the enemy Renekton is going to try to fight my Gangplank, and he's going to try to play for this wave. While he does this, I will go ahead and come and pressure him, and we get ourselves a guaranteed free kill. Renekton is either A) going to fight my Gangplank to deny my Gangplank and, you know, get the wave, or he is going to, uh, just take the wave. And while he takes the wave, boom, I have infinite pressure to go ahead and kill him. And for our last and final example, we're going to jump into the original thing I showed you guys, and you should be able to figure out exactly why this Xin Zhao is a free and guaranteed kill here. You see him on the map, you know what he's going to do, you know what he's playing for, and there we go. We're running at him while he's playing for the wave. He uses his spells on the wave, and then there we go, we go ahead and we tack this Xin Zhao. And now it should all make sense to you as to why playing for enemies on waves gets you free kills. You should know how it works and exactly how to do this in your games. Alright guys, so let's do a really quick recap and make sure you guys follow along and understand everything. There are 3 types of interacting with laners, um, and it's pretty much ganking, counter ganking, or diving. And I didn't show you guys any diving examples here. I would say if you're lower elos, diving is significantly harder than if you are a higher elo player. So kind of stay away from diving if you're not too confident. You'll be able to confidently climb to masters without the need to die. Okay, and understand that laners always look to play around waves. That is how they play the game, the same way junglers play around camps. Okay, laners will always play for waves. You must do yourself a favor and you must look to play around those waves. If you do that, you're going to get more kills, you're going to be able to apply more pressure into your games and find yourself with a gold lead, and they're then able to, you know, 1v9 and dominate the game.
