Your Ego Over Camps Is Keeping You From Winning

Perry Norman reviews a Masters-level jungle match, showing how ego costs wins. The jungler gets out-drafted but keeps taking unsafe camps and flashing late, losing gold and kills. At high elo, you have to respect every opponent and ping constantly instead of expecting mistakes.

Hey guys, it's Perry. Today I'm doing a review of the enemy jungler. The enemy jungler is one of my students or longtime viewers, you could say. He asked me what I do wrong, and I'm going to give him a good little early game review because this game only lasted 18 minutes. And so I want to show you guys what he could have done better at a Masters level. This is for my higher elo players. So if you're Platinum+, these concepts are for you, specifically my Masters+ players. How do you climb and push towards GM, Challenger? These are higher level concepts that I will be covering. And specifically in this case, from a Masters POV, what What you can do better. And I want to first start off by talking about draft. I want to first start off talking about like, what's the win con? And when you look at a comp like this, the win con looks pretty hard to identify because you have a kind of split pusher, non-team fighting champion. You have a kind of like team fighter, but it's Taliyah, Pantheon who works for pick champions. So this synergy here with Pantheon and Teemo. Ziggs is a poke champ, poke champ, poke champ. So we have like 3 and a half poke champs. This guy kind of wants to split. And then one kind of frontline guy. And so we have super engage, poke, good 1v1, assassin, assassin. And so just right off the bat, we are a bit outdrafted and it is what it is. Is the game completely lost because we're outdrafted? No. Is it hard? Yeah. So it's just important to identify that, hey, the way to win a game where you are outdrafted is by choosing 1 or 2 teammates or finding 1 or 2 teammates who are winning and accelerating in a game. So you don't win by just outdrafting people. You can win or lose depending on how fed and weak somebody is. So if I were to really quickly go this far into the game and we were to look at top lane CS difference and gold difference, and you can see this guy's up 1.5K and even the ADC is up another 300 gold. And so in terms of, you know, gold, especially this game, we are up a lot on blue side. So there's a lot to consider here. There's a lot to think about because we're up a good amount. And when you're up a good amount of gold, you can always win games no matter how one side of the draft actually plays. Actually looks, okay? Especially at this level, okay? So the first things first that I'll, I'll highlight: we were shoved out of our jungle. So Fiora does this thing, shoves you out, and that's fine. You adapt to this well. You go do your bot camps and you do your thing. The biggest issue with a situation like this is the fact that you farm the wrong camp here. And what I mean by this is which camp is safer in an event that I invade you. The Gromp or the blue buff, and so we do want to sequence optimally, right? This is optimal sequence. But in a world where I can invade you, you must clear blue first and then secretly do this and then recall. No matter what happens, you're likely going to lose a crab or both crabs or maybe a camp, and so you have to be willing to sacrifice something. In this case, if it were me, I would sacrifice the tempo and the sequencing of these two camps in order for me to never be in a point of threat. I guess another alternative. The alternative here is if you really want to do the Gromp and you really want to do the blue buff, I'm bringing the blue buff all the way here and I'm fake Fog of Warring because I don't know if you have Smite or not. And the difference is here, I'm walking into the, into the jungle here. I see Phaelites, I see this, and you actually show me your HP bar and you show me the blue buff's HP bar so I can definitely fight. I ping my teammates. And so your mistake here is actually letting me know you're in the top side. That's the biggest mistake here. You could technically Gromp blue, but don't let me go here. And the thing is, once you're at a Masters level, you're like, oh, I don't— you're saying in chat, and I'll show this for the audience. I didn't expect you to go top crab. Very smart on your part. Once you are at a certain level, you cannot expect people to be dumb. You have to account for good plays, medium plays, great plays, and bad plays. And so when I play the game, I don't care what elo you are. No matter what you do, I will not get punished by your play. That's how you have a solid foundation and consistent way of playing the game. And so it's not like, oh, he outsmarted. Sometimes, 1 out of every 100 plays I'll make, I'll be like, damn, that guy, I really didn't think that through. I really didn't expect that. Damn. Okay. This is so predictable. Come on. Me doing 2 crabs is so predictable because of what happened to you level 1. Can you really like, like fat, like, like Like, think, think, think about this. You're telling me you don't expect to get punished whatsoever after what happened level 1? That is just not okay for you to think that nothing will happen from that experience. The second thing here is just flash this. You can't give me a kill here. If you flash this, you live. You actually have time and tempo to go to this bot crab, clear your Raptor camp, clear your Krugs. I thought you had no flash. That's why you died. You should always flash there. There's no reason to not flash. There's no reason to not Flash whatsoever. This is whatever. Okay. You're at a position where if you hold Tab and you just assess the game, just assess, you need to understand that you are not the carry and you don't have to be because your Pantheon is giving my team the dick. He is just fucking us, genuinely fucking us. And so when I see you invade my Raptor camp like this, to me— I'm not. That means you don't understand what is happening. You're up 1K gold. Your top laner is not going to let my top laner play for the next 20 minutes of the game. And so all you need to do is stay alive, farm your camps, and support your teammates when they need your help. Instead, what you do here is you force a damn play on my Raptor camp and you get yourself not necessarily— actually, do you die here? I don't actually remember. Oh, you, you barely live with your Flash here. Okay. And so on paper, it's not the end of the world, but I end up getting your Raptor camp. And so this is bad, right? Because you should just eat all of your camps. You should be completely fine. But somehow I'm +1 Raptor camp on you. I'm +1 kill on the top side. And so I somehow have an advantage now that I just should not have. And so you're giving me more room to play. You should technically die here if my LeBlanc isn't an AI and just misses the chain, respectfully. And so you don't— you need to look at the tab screen and be like, wow, my top laner is up 20 CS. Wow, my top wave. Is completely fucked for Fiora. Look, Fiora can't play— like, Fiora? Fiora has a timer right now. Fiora is very struggling to play the game. She is down— look at how much EXP she's down. She's down— I mean, not that much EXP, but gold-wise, she's down 350 gold, a kill's worth, plus more. My bot lane is pretty fucking cooked as well. And so you have a winning game set, you make the game harder for yourself. Okay, I farm my camps, whatever. Your team— look, look, this is what you need to play around. So my top laner can't play the game, dead again. Look at the gold diff. We're down 2,000 gold. Okay, you go down here, whatever. Okay, whatever, whatever's happening. You use your mid laner's prio to get a move timer. This is fine. You have mid prio. I like this invade. This makes more sense because your bot lane— I'm sorry, your mid laner has control because my mid laner recalled and your support is also moving up. But look at this situation. My top laner is getting cooked. My bot lane is like doing okay. Um, this is a bit of a blunder by going to the top play after you're— after this guy's literally dead. You have to defend your camp here. If you don't defend your camp, I get a free camp. It is what it is. This is whatever. I die, I end up dying, right? So the game is actually not good for me. And my top laner ends up dying. And I look at the gold diff again, 2k gold down. So where does the game get kind of funky? You go for the top, you go for the grubs. This makes sense. I'm going for the dragon. Sure, we're trading. Trading is fine here. Not a problem. Right here, your mid laner gets caught. This top play is whatever. The fact that all of this is allowed to— like, is possible is very bad. Um, one of the big solutions for you here is, is just ping. I haven't seen you like ping at all. If you look at chat, if you look at chat here, you're not pinging your top laner danger. You're not letting him know to run. You, you literally see my E here and you don't ping him. You ping him like so late. This guy, this guy is doing my freaking camp. Maybe he dies anyway, but you're just not communicating to your team. So as a Masters player, you must communicate. Okay, the game is fine. Technically, the game is still fine. 9 to 5. Where does the game actually blow up? Okay, you have your item, you're strong. The game— your Teemo's dead again. The game is fine. Okay, here is where the game blows up. Your timer here is what separates you from having a winning game state. And a losing game state. It's just communication, actually. When you go out of base here, look at this. Look at how many pings I have. Look at how much I'm communicating. Basing with Pantheon doesn't matter if you just communicate. And so right here out of base, your Taliyah wants to make a play. You're farming. And so this is actually the root issue. If you're here, look at how I'm playing. Look at how I'm playing. Look at how my LeBlanc is playing. Right? Like, we have an angle here, but look at this. I'm actually scared of this guy. The whole time. I'm scared of him the whole time. And so you're hitting your camps when your teammates are trying to make a play. You're just completely desynced. You're not numbers tracking. You're not accounting for where people are. You're not accounting for the fact that my Rell is literally bot lane and you have a 3v2 angle mid lane where your teammates want to fight, gain control, gain pressure. And at the very least, you should have full vision, full knowledge, maybe even be able to kill my Fiora. You should have pressure in the top side at least. Somehow we're able to kill your teammates. And so the game kind of— devolves into this where you half-ass your camps and then half-ass the play. If you're going to do your camps, just do your damn camps. Don't help your teammates. That's, that's it. If you want to make a choice, make a choice. There's no wrong answer. And then this is the biggest thing for you to fix right away as a Masters player. You need to just respect the fact that I own your camps and go find another play. Go recall, go bot lane, and go make a play. And I'll show you exactly what I mean. We end up doing some— a little bit of a weird thing in the bot side here in a second where I recall, I come out of base, we win a fight. I don't even care about the fight. The game is like, whatever. We have a play around here in the mid lane. After I die, after I die. Okay, right around here. Oh yeah. No, you're again, you're just like forcing a bit. You could just do a Herald there, to be honest. Right around— right before you guys FF. Okay, here we go. I'm half HP. I'm 1 HP. Look at me. I survive on a miracle. You're going to invade my camps. Okay, you're pressuring me out of the jungle. This is fine. This is good. Cool, you get my camps. I just leave. I just drop my entire bot side. I respectfully give my entire bot side. This is a little bit unfortunate that your Pantheon took the gate. I would again use my pings to communicate a little harder. But the essence is I respect and I give up my camps and you don't. In fact, you are upset that you lose your camps and you make the game worse for yourself. I just drop my camps. I go farm. I go farm your camps. I problem solve the game. I kill your Teemo because I'm problem solving the game. And so right here. It's the same issue. You're just like, I can't let this Viego take my camps, then lose the game. And so if you say it's an ego problem, whatever problem it is, it's keeping you Masters. A lot of Masters players do this. They just have no respect. And so you mentioned things like, oh, I don't expect you to do this. I don't expect you to do that. Yeah, some players are bad and it's okay to beat bad players. But if you're going to play like this against the good players, you will never get to Challenger. That's the reality here is like Challenger is the top bracket for a reason. And so you need to play as if you're playing against the best because that's your goal, to get to the best, to get to GM, to get to Challenger. And so the reality is you have to level up your gameplay, drop your ego, and just relearn the game in a way where you're not playing at a subpar level just because you think the enemy jungler is going to do something dumb. Hopefully this was helpful, Capter. I will see you in some more games. Hopefully this was helpful for all the people who are looking to go from Masters to Challenger and even in lower elos like Platinum, Emerald. This applies to pretty much all ranks, uh, but especially Plat Emerald Plus. All right, I'll see you guys in the next video. Peace, peace.
