Fast-Track Your Success By Doing LESS

Peter Szabo argues that lasting improvement comes more from removing harmful or unnecessary things than from adding new tools, supplements, or quick fixes. Using the analogy of repeatedly burning a hand and applying balm, he criticizes symptom-focused approaches (including routine drug prescriptions) and urges listeners to identify root causes—e.g., cutting out sugary fizzy drinks or bad foods—rather than chasing additions like diets or supplements. The talk closes with an invitation to consider elimination as a primary strategy for health and other life areas.

The secret to improving your life is not adding things in, it's removing them. Hey, this is Peter Szabo, and I know that kind of sounds weird, but let me explain. You know, most of us, when we try to get our lives in order or get better at health, wealth, happiness, love, you name it, we typically tend to look for things. Things and gadgets and these magic bullets we can add or we can do to get a better life, but it's very counterintuitive. But what works a lot better is removing things, right? Let me give you an analogy. A lot of people say they keep burning their hand, and I got a little mosquito bite there as well. They keep burning their hand and they apply like some balm to get the inflammation down, right? And it helps. However, most people keep burning their hand and then they're wondering why the bomb isn't working, why the problem isn't going away. So that's the problem with, you know, the 21st century society is most people, they're so symptom obsessed, they're so tool gadget, magic hack obsessed, that'll fix their problems that they want to add or do, and it doesn't seem to work. I mean, think about it. You can see this in the medical field. You know, they're prescribing drugs and these magic pills left and right. But, you know, diseases don't seem to go away. You know, the. The root cause is still not fixed. And don't get me wrong, of course, in certain cases it makes sense, but I'm talking about a lot of these chronic health issues. You know, they're prescribed all these drugs, but then the problem doesn't go away, and it's just managed and it just becomes money for the pharmaceutical companies. Right. You can see it in other parts, parts of the world as well. Kind of like I gave you the metaphor with the burn of the hand and applying the balm. And maybe it helps temporarily, but the problem is still there. So a little bit of a counterintuitive approach that seems to help a lot is improvement by elimination. Right. Say you want to get in shape. Well, most people, they try to jump on different diets or add this supplement in or add this, you know, new equipment, and trust me, I've been there, done that. But. But none of those things really tend to give people permanent results. Why is that? Well, because there's something they're doing in the first place that's causing the problem of being overweight. Right. If you're getting any results in life, you don't like it you gotta understand that it's the effect of a cause, that it's typically a symptom of a root cause. There's something going on that's creating this in the first place. So what makes a lot more sense, what can get you a lot more change for a lot less effort, is simply figuring out, well, what is the root cause that's creating this problem and then fixing the root cause. Right? So, prime example, when it comes come to health or weight loss, well, maybe instead of jumping on these crazy diets, just try to identify the things you eat or drink that are causing this problem in the first place. Right. If a person is consuming a ton of fizzy drinks each and every day, chances are they're gonna get a lot bigger gain from removing that. Maybe replacing it with some water or some other kind of drinks without that much sugar. That'll probably get them most of the way. Like that little change alone and that's manageable. That's probably something that they can do, right? Or it's just getting rid of those bad foods that they're eating. You know, I myself, I've spent thousands of dollars on different supplements, hundreds of supplements. I kind of had like a little pharmacy back home. And it never really seemed to never really lost much weight from it, never really improved much my health from it. And that was because I realized all these things I was trying to add in, I was trying to add something in that I thought was missing. But really all along what I just needed to do is cut out the stuff that was holding me back from naturally regaining that health in a healthy way. So that's what I invite you to consider. Look at things not from just the standpoint of, okay, what can I add in or what can I do to fix this? What can you stop doing or what can you remove so that the problem automatically goes away? So I hope this helps. This is Peter Szabo, and see you in the next one.
