Peter Svenning speaks about leadership as a choice to influence sincerely: declaring one’s intent and inviting others to follow. He argues that when leaders express their deep intentions with courage and honesty, they activate both their own potential and others’—creating collective energy that exceeds individually planned goals. He contrasts goals (specific, measurable, limited) with intentions (directional, emergent), urging openness to unexpected, greater outcomes and the need to "let go" of narrow expectations so optimal results and unimagined returns can arise.

If I'm choosing to be a part of it, then I'm also choosing how to influence it. Turning the flow of influence, taking leadership by being sincere. This is what I sense. This is what I think we need. This is what I want to do. Do you want to follow? Do you want to do it with me? And then the yes comes most of the times, and you get access to. And this is the really interesting point again. While you actually listen to the potential, you listen to your potential and you allow it, and you speak it sincerely and honestly and brave, you have courage from your heart. Then people get inspired and the inspiration comes from the spirits, and that inspiration fuels their potential. Then suddenly you're adding up your potential with all their potential, and the whole project potential just evolves and folds and a lot of energy is there suddenly. And then using the intention, why are we here? Who are we? Why are we here? What is it that we want to give? Get in contact with that intention. And instead of using the goals and measurements, which is a good thing for achieving specific goals, that is specific. And it's also limited. A goal has to be limited for it to be achievable and measurable. But intention is more of the direction. And then we can allow the optimal results to come. And it's not always fitting into our boxes of goals, measurements, requirements. This is a goal. I'm not against goals, I'm just saying let's also be open for the intentions. By intention, we're turning the flow. It's a flow in a direction. And when it's coming from a deep place in us, it's beyond, sometimes beyond what our mind can grasp. So it's greater in a sense. And then we can also allow for something coming back as the result, like a magnetic pull which we cannot imagine beforehand from our mind, because our mind is limited by our own past experiences. And our imagination somehow is too small for it. So we just have to let go, which is the last part again, to let go. Also, when working with these potentials, these minds let go.
