5 Offers to Attract and Generate Leads for Home Service Business

A concise how-to video by Phil Risher explaining five promotional offers that home-service businesses should run to generate leads (flat-dollar discounts, price-lock/price-increase urgency, free add-on services with stated dollar value, limited voucher campaigns to past prospects/customers, and cash referral partner payments). He contrasts these with ineffective promos (vague "ask us about" offers and percentage discounts), gives examples and setup tips (use pop-ups, CSR scripts, email/text blasts), and offers a free marketing audit call-to-action.

If you're looking for promotional offers for your home service business, this video we're going to go through five promos that you should be doing. Also, I'm going to give you two strategies on what the heck doesn't work and why you should not do it. The reason I'm making this video, I was on a prospect call yesterday and the prospect was like, well, what do you think about this one? What do you think about this promo? What have you seen works best? I'm like, I should just make a video about this because I'm sure other people have the same question. So how do I even know about this stuff? I used to be the director of business development at a home service business that was $3 million, helped them scale to $5 million and sell to private equity. I was recently featured on the Jobber podcast. We were literally talking about offers and strategies to convert leads from your website and how to optimize your website to convert leads. And I'm doing a live event with them also coming up talking about those things. So the purpose of this video is to show you what these strategies are and to walk you through how to set them up for your business. At the end of this, you should have a pretty clear understanding of the different promos you can run for your business, how you can convert more leads from your website and offers to prospects and that kind of stuff. All right, so the first thing is what promos do not work. So ask us about this. If you have asked us about our free whatever on your website, it's not adding any value or turning people into leads. It's just something that's there as fluff that you're thinking is going to pique people's interest. But what we found is that nine times out of 10, people never ask about it. You don't have any way to track it, and it's not actually converting a lead. One example that we're going to talk about is actually having a I'll just show it to you because it ties right in. So the first one is flat free off promo. Just like you would go to e commerce website or website where you're going to buy something, have a get $50 off air duct cleaning or whatever your promo is. So we work with this basin waterproofing company. They had ask us about $500 off your basin waterproofing. No one ever asked about it. So what we did was we added a pop up here. Get $500 off your basin waterproofing. Click here. And in the first month they were Going from zero leads with the, their, their initial offer and they got 50, 50, $500 off leads in the first month. So by simply turning ask us about into an actual pop up or something on your website to convert leads works tremendously. Another big no no is percentages off are a waste of. In home service space, people do not know what things even cost. So to tell someone it's 10% off or 50% off or 25% off, they have no idea what that even means. They don't know what things cost. So do not do any percentages off because it's a waste. People are going to be confused. They're not going to know a simple is the dollar off which is again the number one one that we're going to be talking about. These are not in any particular order but the first one is give something like $50 off. It's very easy for people to understand. The last one is random promos on your website that same based on waterproofing company. They had something just in their text that said get 99 promos for this specific thing. Again it's buried in your website. Are people gonna see that and then ask you about it on the phone? And then how are you going to track it? It's just so confusing. So you want to run a pop up where people can actually convert on that over here. So the first one promo is have some type of a flat fee promo that you offer. You can offer this on your website to convert better leads but also you can empower your CSRs to offer this $50 off over the phone. So if they're like hey, you know, I'm not sure about that thing, well, we have a promo going on today or this week or this month for $50 off. If you want I can apply that as well. Maybe that would be more in line with what you were looking for. Whatever. Something that has a time sensitive closeout this gifted dollars off. Another the second one is price increase promos. So what I always recommend to the businesses that we work with is at the end of the year send out an email to all the people that you didn't, that didn't close that you have all these outstanding estimates out there and say hey, we're going into a new year. Our manufacturers are raising the price on X, Y and Z. So if you wanted to lock in the 2023, 2024, 2025 pricing, then if you sign this by the end of the year they're going to be honoring that price. Basically you don't have to Give a discount. You're discounting off of future price increases, so you're not actually decreasing your work. The big thing with promos, a lot of times people think that it can cheapen your brand if you're always having discount codes and all this stuff out there. And it can also hurt when your CSRs are like, oh, that's a little expensive. Oh, well, if you go to our website, you can get $50 off. It's like, why, why take them to another step to go to your website to then convert? It's just very sloppy. So this is one way that you can get around that same thing. If your CSOs are on the phone, it's like, you know the manufacturer is increasing their price in 2024. So if you want to lock it 2023 or whatever that sounds like, that works really good. And you don't have to actually give anything off of your current pricing. Number three, free service with something so very similar to this. Instead of get 50 off air duct cleaning, get a free dryer van cleaning with this basin waterproofing. You know, get a free humidifier with this. Something that kind of spices things up. The problem with free, I mean, I like the free ones. What we've seen is that the dollar off converts the best. The free service converts okay, but people don't even equate the dollar amount to what that service actually costs. So you still want to put in there like a 150 value, $300 value because they don't know what things cost. And when you can tie the dollar amount to it, it builds the value of what that actually free service means. So free service with something is good. Number four, voucher promo to past customers, prospects and customers. This is a big one. We definitely do this and we recommend this to people. That is all your past prospects and customers. When you're slow, send out a text message or an email that says the first 10 people that respond to this get $50 off. Or we have a promo going on for July to get $50 off the your service. Do you want me to stick one aside for you? Something that is very attractive. That's a voucher or promo that says you have the first 10 people to respond to this. You get X, Y and Z. And it allows. It gives you some type of countdown or a reason why they have to take action. It doesn't just leave it open ended that we always have this promo going on. So vouchers work really good and you don't have to, you don't have to Have a physical voucher that you stick over. It's just metaphorically. People can comprehend that you have a voucher for this right now or a promo going on. All right, and then the last one is referral partner promos. Dollars for every job. Big one here. When you build those B2B referral partners, which we've talked about on this channel. But let's say you're an H Vac contractor and you partner with an electrician. You're a gutter cleaning company. You partner with the roofer. When you build referral partnerships, you also have a promo that goes to them and you can have it go directly to their technicians. If you submit a referral and they mention your name or you specifically call us and tell us about this customer, then you'll get X, Y and Z specific dollars. I always like dollars because it takes the confusion out of it. So, like, if you refer us this type of job, you're going to get 50 bucks. If you refer us this type of job, you're going to get 25 bucks. The percentage thing is then. Then you have to do math and you have to figure out if you're going to upsell and all this stuff. It's just like 50 bucks off for this type of job. It's just very clean and easy. So those are the promos that we've seen to be very effective. And what I can tell you is if you implement 1, 2, 5, all five of these, there's no way that you can't grow your business. The company that I mentioned at the top, the $3 million company that we help scale, they do this one. So. Sorry, they do this one. The flat fee, they don't. They don't do this one because they don't actually. In air duct cleaning, there's not actually any manufacturers. It's just, you know, labor and service. They do this one free service with something. They do this one with vouchers, and then they do this one with referral partners. So these are all great promos to help you grow your business. If you need help with setting some of this stuff up, like, well, how do I actually make this form that's going to turn into a lead and convert people through my funnel and that kind of stuff. We help with all of that at my company. So I'll put a link down below. We can do a free marketing audit for you. Walk through what that might look like. Whether we work together or not. Who cares?
