Be the Go-To Company for Local Businesses (without ads) | Marketing without Advertising

Phil Risher explains seven strategies local service businesses can use to become the "go-to" company without running ads: (1) branding and omnipresence, (2) content marketing, (3) PR/media, (4) speaking engagements, (5) hosting events, (6) referral marketing, and (7) lead-generation magnets (white papers, calculators, audits). He emphasizes building reputation and branded search so that customers find the business by name rather than generic service queries, and offers a free marketing audit as a CTA.

In this video, we're going to talk about how to be the go to company in your local area without running ads. This is a video that you do not want to miss. I promise you, if you are growing your local service business or you're looking for strategies to increase your sales and keep your schedules full, in this video, I'm going to give you strategies that we implement in companies that are seven and eight figures and how they grow without running ads. If you think that ads are the secret sauce, they're not. And in this video, I'm going to share with you 7 strategies to help you grow your business. And more importantly, it's actually coming from this book right here called Marketing to the Affluent. This is a book. If you don't know Tommy Mello, he's scaling at 200 million, he's scaling to a billion dollars and he has a garage door company and he actually recommends this book. And this book gives you seven levers that you can pull. And I'm going to share those with you today. And more importantly, I'm going to show you how they tie into your local business and not just you as a person, but but how to market to the affluent and build a solid brand for your business. Why is this important? If you're just chasing around leads and trying to pay for more leads and pay ads to get more leads in the door, you can do that. But if you want to build a solid business that's going to grow and it's going to be based off referrals, it's going to be based off brand and reputation and being a solid business. In this video, I'm going to share with you one of the best quotes from this book that he said is that as you continue to grow your business and people work with your company and you because of who you are, not what you do. And so we're gonna really focus on this video of like how to build your brand and your company for who they are or who it is, not just like what you do, because anyone can cut grass, anyone can clean your carpets, anyone can move, but really it's about who you are as a company and what you do then over what you do. All right, real quick, if you don't like and subscribe, what are you doing? Hit like and subscribe. We post content about growing local service businesses and if you got this far, that's what you want to do. So let's get right into this video. All right, so the first thing that he talks about is branding and omnipresence. So be everywhere your target customers are. So for example, for us, our target customer is not on TikTok. Our target customer is not on Instagram. Do we post on those platforms? Sure. In case they go there, we're omnipresent all over. But where are our target customers? They're on YouTube and they're on LinkedIn and that is where they spend most of their time. They're also in networking groups, they read books, they do stuff that high level leaders do and places that they go, YouTube and LinkedIn. So you want to think about your customer. If you're marketing to the affluent, if you're marketing to stay at home moms or people that are affluent or anyone really, you want to go to where your customers, if you're targeting younger people, you want to go onto those platforms, you want to post reels, you want to do that. If, if you're boat docs and that kind of stuff and they have communities on Facebook, you want to be in that kind of stuff. So be omnipresent. But focus wherever your customers are, you need to be there for local service business. How does this work? Let's say that you're focusing on a specific community or local place. You can join the Facebook groups, you can post on Nextdoor. Also, 9 times out of 10 what we found is that 90% of customers are on Google and so they're going on Google and searching. So you gotta be on Google and you have to have a really good reputation on Google for from a review side, but also so that you pop up. So branding omnipresence, be everywhere your target customers are. The next one that he recommends is to create content marketing. So create content that positions you as the expert. We make a lot of videos about this, but these are content like pricing guides, ultimate guides, answering the big questions, things that really set you up as the expert, but also an authority in the marketplace. So you want to create content that they want to see. Not just like generic blog posts about five things that you can do and in, you know, whatever you want to be posting like this versus that content or things that people are active searching that set you up as the expert, the subject matter expert in your industry. For us it's videos just like this, which is content that people are looking for that sets up us as the expert because we've done it and we've seen it and we're able to share content like this. All right, next one is PR and media. Get others talking and sharing about things, things about your business. So this is a really Good one. If you've done anything in the community, try to get local media outlets or other people to be talking about what you do. This is very important because if you're the expert or you're the authority in your market, then all roads are going to lead back to you. And so if you can get featured in local news articles or you can get featured on the local news, the way that you can do this is most news stations or local newspapers or whatever publications, they want evergreen content and more importantly, they want content they can share that's relevant to their audience. So you could pitch them with ideas or you could do something in your community and then get a following around it. So getting PR media another opportunity for this is like doing videos like this, doing podcasts for local podcasts. There's so many different ideas, but get others talking and sharing things about your business that you're currently doing is really important. Next, do speaking engagements to your target customers. So how does this look for local businesses? Let's say that you are a local carpet cleaning company. Can you get in front of a bunch of different local restaurants? And so maybe they have a restaurant meetups, maybe they have a property manager group for restaurants. Can you get a speaking engagement there by doing like lunch and learns or getting in front of your target customers and speaking to them as a subject matter expert? What this allows you to do is then to elevate yourself up as the authority in the marketplace to create a solid brand as, as the expert. And so how can you get speaking engagements in front of your target customers? Another way to do this is to hold events, host events for your target customers. A beautiful way to this is like all your top tier customers that have been with you a long time, host an event for them, have them all come out, because again, that sets you up as the expert. Maybe you have other industry speakers coming and talking about different things. This could be just for referral partners or it could be for your B2C customers as well. A lot of opportunities there. Number six is referral marketing. So building connections with people that can refer you. This is a huge one for local service businesses, as I mentioned before, property managers, realtors, but there's so many other types of referral partnerships you can create. So going out and building connections. A beautiful way to do this is joining a BNI networking group, your chamber of commerce, being that referral partner that also gives, but then also gets stuff back. And so you want to be able to give as much as you can and then get stuff back. Right? Referral marketing is huge, especially for building a solid brand in the local marketplace. And the last one, he says, is having a lead generation magnet. And we preach so much on this, giving out a free white paper, a free estimate calculator, a free audit, a free analysis. We do this at Flash. We do free marketing audits for any business. And we'll do an audit. We'll sit down with you for 30 minutes. We'll give you the blueprint and roadmap of what we found and areas of opportunity to help you grow your business. The same thing for your business. You could do a free estimate calculator, you could do a free white paper on Ultimate Guide to Kitchen Remodel, ultimate guide for this. And all they have to do is give you their email. And this is a lead generation magnet. If you do all these things, there's no way that you're not going to be able to grow your business. You don't have to do all these all at once, but maybe pick one, maybe host an event, maybe join a referral marketing networking group. Maybe create that lead generation magnet for your website and then start to layer in some of these. Create awesome content and share it in an email newsletter. Do some branding, get some Google reviews. Start to build your Google business profile and your presence. By doing these things you start to build a solid business. Notice how I didn't even mention anything about running more ads. If you run ads, it's just going to compound all these things that you're currently doing. But more importantly, it's going to actually decrease your ad spend. Why? Because instead of people searching for carpet cleaner near me, they're going to be searching for your company name based off all these things which then those are branded keywords. And your ad spend is going to come way down because people are actually searching for you by name brand rather than by service. And that's really what we want. How we started this video is that people work with you for who you are, not what you do as you scale your business. So I challenge you grow your business. Start looking at some of these brand new things. If you have some questions or you know want to drop a comment below, be sure to do that. If you are interested in a free marketing audit on ways to grow your business, we do those for free. I'll drop, I'll put that in the description as well. Be sure to hit like and subscribe and we'll see you in the next video.
