Strategies To Incentivize Employees To Get More Reviews

Phil Risher (owner of Flash Consulting) presents practical strategies for incentivizing employees of local service businesses to generate more online reviews. He explains how to use Google Business Profile to track reviews, run monthly contests or pay-per-review incentives, and automate requests with QR codes, third-party tools (Podium, Chirp) or CRMs (ServiceTitan). He emphasizes in-person asks after good service and building internal visibility (leaderboards, recognition stickers) to create a review-generating culture. The video cites claims that review counts can strongly affect Google ranking and gives examples of clients growing from ~30 reviews to hundreds or thousands over time.

If you're looking for ways to incentivize your employees to get more reviews, in this video, I'm going to share several strategies that we've implemented with businesses to help them go from 30 reviews to thousands of reviews. Real quick. My name is Oversher. I'm the owner of Flash Consulting. We partner with local service businesses to help them increase their sales and keep their schedules full. And on this channel, we talk about growing local service businesses. So if you like content like that, be sure to hit subscribe so you can get notified when we post our videos. All right, so let's get right into this video. So the first and most simple way to do this is on your Google business profile. If you just Google your business or you can go to google.com business to get access to your business, you just go down here, you go to your Google reviews, you can go to your newest reviews, and then you can see like two weeks ago we got this review and the person that they mentioned was Kaylin. Then you can see four weeks ago, this person posted this review and they mentioned me, Phil. So you can see that you're able to track your reviews based off time frames. The one thing I hate about this is that it doesn't show you the actual dates. So you kind of have to infer like, okay, four weeks ago, that was probably still in this month, but a month ago, that was probably last month. And so you can see that was last month, that was last month, that was two months ago. And so what I would recommend is doing this just on an ongoing basis when. Or you can do it monthly. Like, hey, in July we're going to be doing a special promo for our technicians. The person with the most reviews gets X amount of dollars. And so you can easily go through here and you can say, hey, if they mention your name in the review, then you're going to get something if you have the most reviews. And the way that you do that is like this. So you can simply create like a simple Excel spreadsheet and you can put your text names and just say, okay, in July, Tech one has four reviews. Tech two has six reviews. Tech three has two reviews. So Tech two is the winner. And this month Tech two is going to get a hundred dollar Amazon gift card. It's just like a simple way to do it on a monthly basis. Now sometimes what we found is that tech number one, he gets a little, or she gets a little discouraged because, yeah, yeah, I got four views, but I didn't get anything for that. So what you can do. And this is what a lot of other businesses do. You can obviously start with the top person wins, but what you can do is just incentivize them purely on just getting reviews. So just like they go to a job and maybe they try to get a tip, or they just try to do a good job for whatever reason, you know, just because they're doing a good job, then this is another way that they can earn additional commissions, for example, just by doing a good job and helping the client and making them happy. So to give you an idea of how this would work is okay, Kaylin, great job. You got one review, and for each review that you get, you're going to be incentivized and you're going to get whatever, $5, $10, $20, whatever you want to do per review. So in July, you got four reviews, you got six reviews, and you got three, two reviews. And we're going to do $40 for you, $60 for you, and $20 for you. What we found is that this system works the best where everyone is just incentivized because at the end of the day, it helps your business when you get reviews. So the more reviews that you can get, really the better. And it's a way that you can pay for search engines optimization because 17% of your Google ranking is the number of reviews that you have. And so this is a really good way to incentivize your technicians to get reviews by paying them per review. Now to take this a step further, we made a video about this on how to create a QR review code. There are ways that you can automate this process. There's tools like Podium, there's tools like Chirp, there's other automation softwares that are out there that do something similar where they can track the number of reviews that you get in a specific month, who sent them. It can even, you can even search on here for the, the person's name so you can see the reviews that they got. And then it can create even like a leaderboard for you and it can kind of do this process for you. You can also automate your review process using a lot of CRMs like Service Titan is one. You can send auto emails or text messages after service is completed and, and these are ways that you can automate this process. What we found to be most effective though, is when your technician asks for the review at the person's house when they are happy with the service that's completed. It's the best way to get reviews because if you automate it you give people the opportunity to be like, oh yeah, you know, I'll get to it. Or just like, oh, that was nice. But if you say, hey, such and such customer, my name is Phil. One of the ways that I get recognized in our company is by getting good Google reviews every single month. They recognize people that get the most reviews and I feel like I give really good service. Do you mind leaving me a Google review to let my boss know that I'm doing a good job and to let my company know that I'm out representing them in the community? Something like that. If you say that to a customer face to face, eye to eye, after you just delivered exceptional service, they're going to say, phil, absolutely, I would love to do that for you. And then you can give them a QR code, they can scan it and I'm made a video about that before. Or you can just like text them this link. If you give your custom, your employees the link, all you do is just go to get more reviews and then it's going to give you this link. You can give this to your employees to text out some people when they're doing service. So that's going to be the best way to get reviews. Some of the companies that we work with have gone from 30 reviews to 300 reviews in a month. Other businesses that we're working with a long time, three, four, five years, they've gone from 30 reviews to almost 3,000 reviews. And they do this system right here. So definitely know that it works. It just takes building the culture and the visibility inside of your business. Oh, one last point that I like to make over here. If you take this leaderboard and you share it with actual people's names in your business, even if it's daily, weekly, monthly, whatever, people are going to get very competitive because they're going to see, wow, tech two made $60 off this and tech three only had two reviews. And so if you start recognizing the top review getters, just recognition, you can still pay everyone, but just like, hey, these people are awesome. One thing that we've seen to be very effective is if you create little like trucks for them and then put them on like a board or something in their break room or something. And then each time that tech2 gets to 10 reviews, for example, they get a little star on their truck or their picture or their name. And then eventually it's just like in football where you get stickers on your helmet for good plays. It's the same thing. It's the same like you get stars on your on your emblem for giving great customer service. This works really, really well. So if you like content like this, be sure to hit like and subscribe.
