Phil Risher explains why he offers free marketing audits to business owners: they let him learn about clients, provide concrete strategies and playbooks to grow their businesses, and generate social proof (regular five-star reviews). He emphasizes a non-sales approach—showing exactly what needs fixing and step-by-step actions—contrasting his hands-on, strategic advice with superficial AI-generated reports or hard sales pitches.

The free marketing audit for me is one, it's an opportunity where I can learn about people's businesses and give them ideas and strategies to grow their business. We get a lot of five star reviews, like probably one or two a week just from these marketing audits. So it's a way to get social proof that we do a good job. Second, most companies, you get on a call with them and it's like a hard sales pitch. And I'm like, well, what if I could just show them all the things that they should be doing? Basically give them the recipe and then sell the cooking. And like, if you want to work together, great. But, but here's what you should be doing. All these things are broken and here's all the issues. It gives us a open playing field, like an open conversation, to be like, hey, here's the issues. Here's what you should fix. Whether you work with us or not, here's what you gotta fix. I'm literally giving them the playbook of like, do this. Like, I was on a call today, I'm like, dude, if you don't do anything else, go and do this exact thing. Like, please hear me do this thing. And he's like, okay, I get it, I get it. How should I do that? I'm like, go here, do this, do that. So I'm literally like trying to show him exactly what to do. So people are not doing that. They're pulling up some like AI generated report, running it through some checker and then saying like, okay, yeah, looks like this is an issue here where I'm like talking real strategy and like, here's what you need to do to actually grow your business and do these things.
