Move abroad, your PAN card doesn't automatically become an NRI PAN. Here's what you actually need to do. First, understand this: there is no separate NRI PAN card. Your PAN number stays the same. What changes is your residential status in the income tax record. If you have become an NRI, update your details by logging into the income tax e-filing portal and changing your residential status while filing your income tax return. Also, make sure your PAN profile has your current overseas address email ID, and mobile number. If your KYC isn't updated, banks and financial institutions may ask you to submit fresh documents.
