The big news related the OCI card applications. The six-month stay rule in India is finally removed. Yes, if you are planning to apply for an OCI card in 2026, this video will save you months of waiting. So watch till the end. Namaste, allies. Welcome back to VisaMed, where we simplify Indian visas, OCI card applications, passport, PAN cards, passport surrenders, and important documents for Indians living abroad. The Indian government has made some important changes to OCI card rules in 2026. Some rules are now easier and some have become strict. So let's break it all down in simple steps. Change number 1, the biggest update is the 6-month stay rule has now been removed. Earlier, if you wanted to apply for an OCI card application from inside India, you have to stay here for at least 6 months to prove your ordinary residence. And this caused a lot of delays and a hell lot of confusions for many of you all. But now, from April 8th, 2026, this rule has officially been removed. If you have a valid visa and all the required documents, you can apply for your OCI card application the moment you land in India. So no more waiting for 6 months. Change number 2 is that the new fee structure in 2026 has been introduced. If you're applying from outside India, a standard fee of USD 275 is applicable. In UAE, it's approx AED SGD 349. In Canada, it's CAD 376. And if you're applying from inside India, the standard fee is ₹15,000 via the demand draft, payable to Pay and Accounts Officer, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi. Other service fee here includes the reissue is for $75, duplicate OCI card costs $200, and the late passport updates will cost you $25 as the late fee. Change number 3 is that we have strict Compliance rules for children now. Birth certificate needs to be apostilled if issued outside India. But here's a good news: kids don't always need to visit the VFS Global. The parents can complete the process with consent. For foreign spouse, every time your passport is renewed, you must upload your updated passport details, your latest photograph, and a declaration that your marriage is still valid. Now let's talk about the documents that are required. You will be needing a foreign passport, your citizenship proof. And a naturalization certificate, Indian origin proof, which can be your old Indian passport or the surrender certificate, your passport-size photo and signature, valid Indian visa or the residence permit, address proof of India, marriage certificates in the case for spouse OCI card application, birth certificates for your children, FRR registration certificate if applicable. Let's talk about some travel and digital updates. Pending passport update? No problem, you can still travel to and from India with a valid OCI card. Digital e-arrival card is now mandatory. Physical disembarkation forms are gone. Fill the digital e-arrival card within 72 hours before your flight. PIO cards are no longer valid as travel documents. Convert your PIO card into your OCI card immediately. So here's the summary. OCI rules in 2026 are focused on 2 things mainly: making the process faster and compliance strict but right. If you follow the rules properly, applying for an CICAR application will be smooth like butter, but even a small mistake can cause delays and rejection.
