Building Your First Membership Site with Kajabi

James Allen shows how to build a membership site on Kajabi using content, coaching, and community. He walks through pricing ($50/month recommended), setting up monthly lessons and a recurring masterclass, running live Q&A sessions with up to 200 participants, and creating a community tab that members access automatically.

Monthly recurring revenue is the ultimate dream of every single business, especially for coaches and content creators. And a membership site is an amazing way to create that regular consistent revenue where you can almost guarantee you know exactly what you're gonna make each and every single month. Today I'm gonna walk you through how to build a membership site inside of Kajabi using the 3 C's that go into an effective membership site. Which are coaching, content, and community. Full disclosure, I have not actually ran my own membership site. I have been a part of many different membership sites, and I actually learned coaching, content, community from a mentor of mine named Graham Cochran, who has a very successful membership site that I've been a part of. I've been inside of it, and I've seen how it's run, and I've learned a lot from him. Personally, it's just not something that's really high on my priority list at this moment in my business. If I were going to make my own membership site in Kajabi, knowing what I know and what I I've learned from the greats, this is exactly how I would do it. If you want to take advantage of a free 30-day trial of Kajabi to play with the platform yourself, you can use my link, profityourknowledge.com/kajabi. This is an affiliate link, so I get a small percentage of your investment in Kajabi, but there's no extra cost to you compared to if you went through Kajabi's website yourself. All this does is simply support me and this channel for referring someone to Kajabi. But when you sign up with my link, I'm going to give you instant access to a course I created called Kajabi Kickstart, which is going to help you set up and launch your online business with Kajabi in that first 30 days. On top of that, when you're inside of Kajabi Kickstart, you will have access to a free 45-minute coaching session with me where you and I both get to deep dive into your Kajabi account, and I will be there to answer any questions you have about Kajabi. Marketing, or even making your first sale with the platform. All this is free and you can get instant access by going to profityourknowledge.com/kajabi or clicking the link down in the description. Without further ado, let's dive into Kajabi. So the first thing we want to think about is content. We're going to go over to courses and we're going to build out a new product. We'll pick a course and we'll hit get started. From here we can call this my My Suite membership site. This membership is awesome. You can use this to generate a sample course outline. I'm not going to do that right now. We'll hit continue. You can upload an image. Done. We'll go over to continue. Since this is a membership site, we want to change up from one time over to subscription. Bill customers on weekly or monthly intervals. You can decide on the price of your membership site. Um, typically I'd say anywhere from $50 to $100 per month. It kind of depends on how high level your membership site is. And how well you're connected with your audience, et cetera. I'd say if you're just kind of starting out, maybe, you know, $50 per month, or it could be $30 a month. I mean, it really kind of just depends on you. I think $50 per month is a great price point where it's pretty manageable, not that hard, assuming that you're providing some epic value inside of the course content and the community, et cetera. So we'll say build every 1 month. and then you can decide on your payment type. I'll just choose Stripe for now. Hit save and finish. And from here you can build out all of your course lessons, and this is the actual content itself that you put inside of your membership site. Now, one thing that I have seen in these very successful membership sites is that they create a new masterclass that comes out every single month. So if you have some content already booked up and set for this membership site planned in advance, maybe for lessons, we'll say, you can put those lessons inside and just kind of add them in here. You can create a new module with different categories or topics. You know, if you were a fitness coach, for example, then this module could all be about nutrition. We'll save that module. And let's say once a month you build out a whole masterclass just about nutrition that you want to add to this. We want to make sure all this stuff is published. Publish, publish. But then let's say in that example that you're also exercise walkthroughs, we'll say, you know, you can create another module with that. You can even have tasty recipes. So let's say that these were your main categories that you have. You have something related to exercise, to nutrition, just learning about nutrition, and then tasty recipes. So you could cycle through these and each month you put out a new lesson right down here if you wanted to add it Over here you can click add content, say new lesson, and this is where you would add your lesson walkthrough. We'll call it Killer Planks. And then down here, always make sure it's published. You can add whatever lesson you have— video, audio, none if you just want to be written, whatever it is. I'd say make it video, you know, just have it at least be audio. You just add some sort of lesson content in there. This is where you can change up your thumbnail for the image. Description down here, uh, add downloads if you want. I think that that's really helpful, especially if this comes out once per month, is to just add some sort of download. And then you can have automations as well if you want, where if people complete this, then they get something in return. You can do that every once in a while if you want. Okay, the sky's the limit. I go through a lot of different videos where I help you build out these different lessons as well. But if I was building out a membership site, this is what I would do. I would create a handful of lessons for each one of these, maybe 3 per section that people, as soon as they join, they have some content that they can dive into. And every month I would just add one to nutrition. The next month, add it to exercise walkthrough. The next month, add a new tasty recipe walkthrough. You know, it's what— it's really up to you how you want to do it. Just make sure that there's new content constantly coming out and that it stays organized, most importantly. So that covers our content piece. Now we want to move on to the next piece, which is coaching. There are a handful of different ways that you can provide coaching for your members in your membership site. You can just create a Zoom account and then have all their emails and send them an email broadcast that says, hey, this month at this time we're doing a, a live Q&A where I'll dive in to answer any questions you have about the membership, about growing your business, or about getting in the best shape of your life, or whatever it is that you help people do. Or So you could use Zoom, or you can use Kajabi's built-in going live feature. And I made a whole video where I go into more depth on this, but I'll just give you a quick overview right now. As you can see right here, courses now with live video sessions. So we can enable this in settings. We'll go over up here to settings. Down here you can provide live video sessions for this course, and you can add, you know, monthly Q&A. I already made a video where I explained all this. So you can say monthly Q&A is the title of this. You can always change up these Settings as well. Every month we go live for 1 hour and I answer any and all questions you have about X topic, whatever your topic is, limited to 200 participants. This is something to consider if you do decide to go this route. Live sessions are limited to 200 participants. Okay, so if you have 500 people inside your membership site, only 200 of them will be able to join this if you take this route. That could be beneficial, it could not be. It's kind of up to you to make that decision, but I just want you to know that this feature does exist, and I want to show you how, how cool it is to actually have this inside of your membership site. So, we'll hit save, we'll go back to outline, and then right here you're going to see live session details. You can always add a new lesson or a new module where people can actually see like, oh, I have my live session coming up, or where can I join, and you can always do this where you go up, add a new module, and you can say monthly Q&A, create module, Make sure it's published, and down here you can add recordings of the monthly Q&A sessions that you did, which is pretty cool. And what you can also do is add a lesson where right here you can get the session link. You can add a lesson and you can pin this to the top where it's the monthly Q&A link. Create lesson. We'll join this and we'll say— make sure it's on publish— say join live session here, hit save. And then whenever you're ready, you can hit go live right here. It'll say, do you want to notify people? Obviously, if you have people, yes, notify them. But I'm just going to say no, just go live. And from here, it's frozen now because I'm already using my camera, but this is what it's going to look like. You can see how many participants are inside of your live call up to 200, change out your camera settings, you have background effects, video settings, your microphone, noise reduction, uh, mute your microphone. You can share your screen, hit record. Obviously that's super important. You can do reactions, which is fun to keep people engaged. There's a chat, and then you can also have breakout rooms if you wanted as well. So the first 30 minutes of this hour-long Q&A, you can be answering questions. The last 30 minutes, you can just have breakout rooms where people get a network. Pretty cool. Okay, and if you wanted to, you can hang out until the end. You could jump around in breakout rooms. Um, you could just have a virtual assistant that joins in and then you walk away. So you just show up for 30 minutes and then they close the group after the next 30 minutes. Okay, the sky is the limit really. And then up here you have some other settings and whatnot. You can change up all this stuff as you please. Okay, it's really cool. I think the engagement piece is probably the biggest piece. But yeah, inside of Kajabi you can have your 200 students that show up and get to take advantage of this live Q&A call with you. When you're done, you can always just hit End Meeting for All, End Meeting. That's it, you've left the room. Okay, so that is a really easy way that you can build in your live Q&A sessions and your coaching aspect every single month inside of Kajabi without having to use another tool like Zoom. Now there's a saying with membership sites that I've heard and I really resonate with. It says people come for the content and they come for the coaching because because that's what they think they need, but they stay for the community. So there's one little piece to the puzzle that we're missing so far. Right now we have the content, we have the coaching, everything is built in inside of Kajabi. Now what we wanna do is go over to All Products, and from here we're gonna create a new product, and we'll go over to the Community tab. We'll hit Get Started, and you're gonna have to fill out a little bit of information. Since we already have that one program on the subscription, I'm gonna leave this community to be free, okay? Because this is going to be connected with our content and coaching that we've already set up. We'll hit save and finish, and then right up here you can click go to community where you can hang out inside of your community. I do have another video where I dive deeper into the community tab if you want to check that out, but that's how you can get your community fully set up inside of Kajabi. This works basically as a Facebook group. but it's not on Facebook, which is kind of nice. Another way that you could do this is you can have the community have the membership site where people pay to be a part of the community, and then have your program be for free where you can just include that into your community. But the big thing is that we need to make sure all this stuff ties together, that it's very congruent, very seamless when people go to a checkout page. To do that, we're gonna go over to the sales tab, and then we'll go over to offers. And from here, we're going to have a couple of different options. These are all the different offers that we have made here. We have my suite membership site. It's $47 per month. We also have our community, uh, over here, our community site that's free. Now the difference is that these are two separate offers. So what we can do is we can hit my suite membership site. This is the one where you have that recurring monthly, uh, investment for people. You can always hit edit. And then down here, you can change up if you want to increase the price, whatever it is that you want to do in here, you can do that. But what we really want to do is go back to offers, and we want to make sure that on my suite membership site, we add a product. We want to add my suite membership site community. So that's all we really need to do. Hit save, and then right here, we can do a little preview. Obviously, you'd have to change up your checkout page, but right here you would explain that you get the coaching, the content, the community inside of this for one investment of $47 per month, and then they can put in their information, their credit card number, sign up, and then they're gonna get access to your suite membership site where you have the live Q&A already built in. You have the content in there that you update every single month. and then you also have my suite membership site community as well. So it's all built in, it all works together. When you're ready, you can always just get your link copy, add it to your campaigns, whatever it is that you wanna do, and it's gonna go straight over to this checkout page, and then you can start building out your sales pages, et cetera, et cetera. But that is how I would build out a membership site in Kajabi when the time comes for me. Again, it's just not a high priority list item for me at this time. If you're thinking about trying out Kajabi but you haven't yet, consider checking out my link down in the description, profityourknowledge.com/kajabi. It walks you through everything you get. You get a 30-day free trial, free course from me, and a free coaching call with me as well. It's all included. It's totally free. Um, and if you decide to sign up for Kajabi and start paying through my link, there's no extra cost to you for using my link versus going through Kajabi's website. I just get a small commission for referring people to this amazing, amazing platform. I really think it's the best, most seamless platform. To grow your business. And it's the only product that I actually am an affiliate for because I just believe in it that much and it just makes sense for my business as well. So if you get value from my videos, you like the content that I put out, you want to get some hands-on help directly from me, consider checking out my link. Um, again, yeah, if you sign up, just a little bit comes over to support me and this channel to make more videos like this. Let me know your thoughts about membership sites in Kajabi and the things that I shared. What do you think about the live video feature that's built into courses? Do you like the community tab? Let me know your thoughts, please, in a comment below. I'd love to answer any and all questions you have that I can. If it makes sense, I'll make another video. I hope this was helpful. I hope it was insightful for you, and I will see you in the next one.
