I recently got an email from Kajabi informing me that there are changes happening with Gmail and Yahoo when we're sending marketing emails. Now, this is really important. It's not just for people who use Kajabi, uh, but grateful for Kajabi for letting me know because I honestly didn't know about this until they sent me this email. Today I'm going to read through that email so you can be updated on what is happening with Gmail and Yahoo because most people have a Gmail account or a Yahoo account when it comes to their own emails, which is why this is so important for us to figure out and to get set up and make sure everything's good on our end so that we are actually getting our emails delivered and our email marketing efforts are actually working instead of just going to the spam folder and not getting the clicks and attention that they deserve. So here is the email that I got from Kajabi. They said, hello James, you may have heard about the new email requirements for bulk senders starting February 4th, 2024. Yahoo Yahoo and Gmail have separately announced updated requirements to deliver email to their platforms. Their goal is to better secure customers' inboxes and provide an improved consumer email experience. Basically, there's a lot of different spammers and people on the internet, uh, crowding people's inboxes, and it's just getting out of control. So that's essentially what's happening is that Google, Yahoo, They're picking up on this. There's a lot of bots with AI and all this other stuff and it's just kind of crowding the space. So they wanna make it a bit more strict so that people are getting quality emails that aren't spam. So he goes on to say, what does this mean for you? And this is again from Kajabi. They're informing us 'cause that's where I send my emails from is Kajabi. So they said, you do not need to take any action to remain compliant. All necessary updates are being handled by Kajabi on your behalf. This is a huge reason why I love Kajabi. If you're new to my channel and you start looking at videos, you probably see that I talk a lot about Kajabi. And if you've been following me for a while, I talk a lot about Kajabi because I love it. It's the one tool I use in my business and I'm not a really techie person. So when Kajabi tells me this, like I read that first paragraph and I'm like, oh my gosh, what do I have to do? Thinking it's something crazy. And they inform me that it's all taken care of for me. They're just kind of letting me know what's happening, but they're taking care of all this extra more high-quality tech stuff that I am not super savvy with. So that's a huge relief for me. Continuing the email, they said, to keep you informed, below are 3 key requirements from Google and Yahoo. This is important for you whether you're using Kajabi or not. If you are using Kajabi and maybe you missed this email or for some reason didn't get it, you can be assured that you're covered on all this stuff. They said, number 1, improve email authentication to enhance user confidence in email sources, senders, will now be required to implement stronger email authentication using industry standards such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. PTR records will also be required for all sending IPs. So I did pull this up just so we're clear here. Basically what it says is it can instruct mail servers to quarantine emails that fail SPF or DKIM or both to reject such emails or deliver them. So it's all about just deliverability to the inbox. And if you don't meet these requirements, You are not going to have your emails put into people's inboxes that are on your email list, which is a huge part of online business. So you have to make sure that this stuff is set up. And again, if you're already using Kajabi, you can rest assured that all this is taken care of for you. Uh, this actually came from Google, uh, the important, you know, February 2024, which is the time this video's coming out. Gmail require the following for senders who send 5,000 or more messages a day to Gmail accounts. Authenticate outgoing mail, uh, email, avoid sending unwanted and unsolicited email, and make it easy for recipients to unsubscribe. Okay, so that's pretty much— it's just like, it's just about being legit and covering your bases, not doing anything weird. And if you do that, you— it sounds like you'll be okay. Okay, but the SPF, DKIM, or PTR records have always been a part of Kajabi email configuration for both shared sending pools and custom sending domains. DMARC has also been implemented for shared sending pools. Actions required, none. All required DNS records are already in place for sharing sending pools. SPF, DKIM, PTR records are already in place, and DMARC records will be in place by February 24th. So Kajabi again is taking care of this all on your behalf, which is amazing. Number 2, enable easy unsubscription. I don't know about you, but I despise when I'm on somebody's email list or they're sending me emails and there's no way for me to unsubscribe, or it's this ridiculous process and it's super tedious and frustrating. It, it gives me a, a bad view of that person because like, why, why are you making it so hard for me? If it's not relevant for me, let me unsubscribe. It's not a big deal. So I always work in my emails making it very clear that you can unsubscribe at the bottom if this isn't relevant to you or you don't wanna have these emails anymore, it's okay. 'Cause it's just, it's needy, it's weird, like, oh, I wanna keep their email, but if they don't wanna be there, that's just a bad relationship, okay? So really, really important. They said to provide a hassle-free experience for users, senders must support one-click unsubscribe in the list unsubscribe header in the email. This does not affect the visible unsubscribe link in the body of the email. Non-transactional emails at Kajabi already include the list unsubscribe header. Transactional email is unaffected by this change. Before February 4th, 2024, the Kajabi list unsubscribe header will comply with the one-click requirement. So again, actions required, absolutely none. This change is being handled by Kajabi. And then the last tip that they have is number 3, send only relevant emails. To uphold our commitment to ensuring users' inboxes remain free, from unsolicited or irrelevant emails, we will enforce a threshold to limit spam. This measure is in alignment with our mission to prioritize users' preferences and experiences. Gmail and Yahoo have committed to 0.3% complaints as the threshold. Actions required: none. Kajabi already enforces a stricter 0.2% threshold for complaints. In alignment with industry best practices. So what all this information means is that the internet is getting a lot more crowded, especially as people are starting to build more knowledge businesses and using email marketing and getting more savvy with it. And because of this, Google and Yahoo, they're not, you know, making it so we can't send emails or anything. They're just making it more strict because they wanna make sure that people are getting quality emails delivered to their inbox that they actually want and that are valuable to them. So it's our job as the creator to make sure we're sending relevant emails to people, making it easy to unsubscribe, and following the standards that these guys want us to play with because we do have to play their game. What's amazing about Kajabi is that they already take care of all this for you. And for me, being a Kajabi user, that is a huge relief because when I see terms like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC PTR records, my brain just goes blank and I think, what, what am I gonna do with that? So to know that Kajabi has my back when it comes to those fancy terms and words, so I don't have to even look into that, I just know that, oh cool, cool, it's being updated. That's a huge relief for me.
