Email Marketing Tutorial: 5 Emails That ALWAYS Convert

In this tutorial James Allen explains why email marketing is the most profitable channel for online creators, citing global email usage statistics and a 4,400% ROI figure. He outlines the prerequisite of a lead magnet—any quick, valuable piece of content that solves a persistent audience problem—to capture email addresses. Allen then defines an email funnel as a strategic series that moves a subscriber toward purchase, debunking the myth that one must wait weeks before making an offer. He presents a concrete 5‑day automated email sequence: 1. Immediate teaching email that paints a dream scenario. 2. Second teaching email that deepens the idea and delivers a quick win. 3. Transition email that introduces the product/service as the solution and includes a first offer link. 4. Straight offer email that details the program, who it’s for, and why to act now. 5. Urgency/scarcity email that shares a case study, reminds the subscriber of a closing window, and pushes a final call‑to‑action. Allen stresses the importance of pre‑emptively handling objections throughout the sequence by sharing success stories and debunking myths. He also advises customizing the sequence while keeping the teaching‑first, offer‑later structure. Throughout, he promotes his 5‑step action guide for building a passive‑income online business and references a separate video on three core marketing principles. The tutorial is instructional, conversational, and aimed at creators of courses, coaching, or knowledge‑based products who want an automated, high‑converting email system.

It's still going to require some work on your part, but when it comes to writing out emails, we want these emails to be sent every single day when somebody opts into our email list. But that begs the question, how do we get people to actually opt in to our email list? Before we start writing out these emails, we want to create a lead magnet. Now, I'm not going to go into crazy depth on this, but this is how we get people to go go through these 5 emails that I'm about to share with you. A lead magnet comes in many different forms. It can be an ebook, a short PDF, it could be a checklist, it could be a video or a workshop, templates, and a ton more. When you're building out a lead magnet to get something out there quick, I'd highly recommend just recording a video or making a really short PDF checklist of some kind. You don't have to put a ton of time into building some sort of online quiz that's super sophisticated. You're just giving someone something valuable in exchange for their email address. The way you make a great lead magnet is by answering this question: what is a persistent problem that your audience faces, and how can you quickly solve that for them in a short PDF or video? And once somebody opts in, that is going to kickstart your email funnel. So what is an email funnel? An email funnel is a strategic series of emails that guides a new email subscriber to becoming a paying customer. And there's a big misconception when it comes to email funnels that when somebody opts into your list, you have to wait a very long time— 30 days, 60 days, couple months— until you can finally start to make them an offer because you have to nurture them. If you're creating content like social media posts, podcasts, YouTube videos, blogs, and people are reading that, then they're building trust with you before they ever opt in. Sometimes people can be following you for months until they finally decide to pick up your lead magnet. And when those people finally decide to opt in, they are more committed than just a casual looky-loo viewer that only watches your free content. And when people first opt in, they are most committed and interested and what you have to offer, which is why we should present our offers sooner inside of our email funnel. So the email funnel I'm going to share with you is only 5 emails. That's it. You can add more to this if you want, but I'd recommend just using this 5-email structure as a solid baseline to get started. Here's an overview of the 5-day email sequence. Email number 1, which goes out immediately when people opt in, you're just going to teach. Email number 2 is going to come out 1 day after email number 1 or after they had opted in. And in this email, you're going to teach again. Email number 3 is going is gonna come out 1 day after email number 2. And inside this email, you're going to teach them and then transition to introducing your product or service as being a good solution for the problem that they're facing or what you've been teaching them over the course of a few days. The next day after email number 3 comes email number 4. And inside of this email, you're just going to make a straight offer and say something like, yesterday I introduced you to this product or service, Here's what you're going to get. Very straightforward, very cut and dry. Email number 5 comes out 1 day after email number 4, and inside this email you're going to make an offer again, but this time increase the urgency and the scarcity and give them some motivation to take action now. Now, the beautiful thing about this email sequence is that it's fully customizable. There's no one way to do this, but you do want to stick to the structure of teaching the first few days and then introducing your product or service and just focusing on offering in the last few days. So here's an example of what this can look like. Email number 1, you can introduce an idea and paint the dream of what's possible with the offer you're eventually going to present. An example is you could talk about the crazy perks that come with having good credit if you're selling a credit building course or to book calls to help people build their credit. If you talk about network marketing, you could share the crazy perks of having a really good network and why that is so valuable in life. And in this email, you're not making any offers. You're just teaching them and getting their brain turning about what's possible. Then comes email number 2, where you're going to go deeper on the idea of what you introduced in email number 1 and get them a quick win of some kind. But make sure it's relevant to the product or service that you're trying to eventually sell. But again, in this email, you're not selling anything. You're just leading with value and teaching. What's a quick win that you could get someone about something related to your offer? Make sure it's very valuable and very actionable. Then we go into email number 3. This is where we start transitioning into your offer. And this is a great email to teach them why people stay stuck in this area and then introduce your product or service as the solution. Inside this email, you're finally making an offer, and this is where you can add a link to go to a book a call page or to go over to the sales page for your product. In email 4, this is the strict offer email. This is where you can give people a sneak peek into the program, talk about who it's for, what it does, why they need it and why they should take action now. And of course, add links to the page you want them to go to after to take that action. And then of course, email number 5. This is a great opportunity to share a case study or student success story and really hit home why they need to take action now. If your offer is an open-close window, it's not always available. This is a great time to remind them that doors will be closing in X amount of time. And of course, have a call to action to go to your sales page or to a book a call link. Now here's a pro tip. When you're writing out these emails, people are first discovering you on the internet through YouTube videos, blog posts, social media posts. They're getting to see the value that you can present to them, but then they finally opt in. And even when you make an offer of any kind, you're talking about a new way that someone can achieve a certain result. Naturally, objections come up. And doubts around their ability to execute on what you're talking about. All these fears start to come up. So we want to do— we're writing out these emails— is start to address these objections that they have ahead of time. For example, if I say you can take the knowledge that you already have, turn it into an online course, and then turn that into passive income, naturally skepticism arises. You're going to get a little curious like, that sounds cool, but I'm not good at selling. I don't even know what my business idea is. I don't have an audience. Like all these questions start to come up. So it's my job as the person who's going to be making this offer to crush as many of those objections in my teaching emails before I even get to the offer as possible. And the best way to do this is to obviously know what these objections are, but to share stories of your success and other people's success and how they have overcome those objections as well and just debunk myths. That's essentially what you're doing. But if you can do this in each and every email, you're going to have a way better chance of success. And not sounding like everybody else because you're sharing unique stories from your experience and the people that you've been able to help. If you're going to use these emails with your own marketing campaigns, you really have to have a good grasp around how marketing works, which is why you should check out this video where I share with you 3 marketing principles that I wish I knew earlier.
