I Paid For Kajabi So You Don’t Have To.

James Allen breaks down Kajabi after paying for it himself. The platform handles websites, courses, email, and payments in one place, but struggles with advanced funnel logic and email deliverability. His biggest warning: don't buy Kajabi until you've validated that people actually want what you're selling.

Starting with things that Kajabi does very well, the first one is obviously the all-in-one aspect and keeping your business really simple with one tool. When you use Kajabi, you get your website, your blog, email marketing, your course and product hosting, your community hosting and product delivery, payments, checkout pages, upsells, downsells, cross-sells, order bumps, landing pages, automations, everything you could possibly imagine all under one roof. So you have one username, one password, and one tool. That's all. This is typically the biggest reason that people really want to start using Kajabi is because of the all-in-one simplicity that it provides. Kajabi also gives you a really clean user experience. The templates that they give you look professional right outside of the box, whether you're building your website, a landing page, an opt-in page, a thank you page, or your course or community of any kind. You really don't need to have any serious design skills or coding skills or even know what coding really is. The course builder is really seamless. They have different templates where you can choose to gamify your course or just keep it really sleek and professional looking. You can also customize the colors, the layout, all that kind of stuff inside of it, and it's very plug and play. So setting up a highly scalable course or community or membership is really easy and really fast with Kajabi. Kajabi actually started out as a course hosting platform and then evolved over time into the all-in-one tool that it is today. Another great thing about Kajabi is that it has built-in email marketing, which can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars every single month. Because with a lot of these tools that you use, like ActiveCampaign or ConvertKit, which are incredible tools, you have to pay more money as your audience grows. But with Kajabi, it's not nearly as intense as those other tools. On Kajabi's growth plan, you can get 25,000 email contacts. And if you're able to maintain a clean list, that can make you a ton of money. It's more than you would ever need to have a very successful online business. Also, if you go to the marketing tab in Kajabi and click on funnels, you can create a new funnel with literally one click. This gives you everything you need to build out your business and it's all laid out for you so you don't even have to know how online business really works, though you should, but it gives you an opt-in page, email sequences, a sales page, and a checkout page already built. And they give you different types of funnels for different offers. Like if you wanted to have a coaching campaign or a Zoom webinar, or if you're offering a free book or a product launch, whatever type of funnel you wanna build, you just name the funnel, choose the product you wanna sell, and then say create funnel. And Kajabi puts it all together for you, gives you the layout. All you have to do is just plug in your copy and your offer. Kajabi really excels at making tech easy. Easy for average people like you and me who aren't very tech savvy. Hosting updates and security are all handled for you. That way we don't have to be focusing on all that techie stuff. Instead, we get to just focus on creating content and driving sales. Depending on your plan, you can get access to the 24/7 live chat, which has been a lifesaver for me. On top of that, they give you Kajabi University where they give you free courses on how to grow your business, but also use Kajabi. And as a paying user, you also get access to the Kajabi Facebook group which is filled with actual Kajabi admins and 6, 7-figure-plus online business owners who use Kajabi, who are giving you advice, giving you feedback and tips on how to grow your business as well. With Kajabi, you can easily set up your first offer in days, not weeks or months. Now, that sounds amazing, but let's be honest, Kajabi is not perfect. Here are a couple of things, in my opinion, that Kajabi doesn't do very well. The first one is advanced funnel logic. Now, what I mean by that is that ultra granular automations and tagging or super complex funnels and that kind of stuff, Kajabi is not really the tool for you. Tools like ActiveCampaign or ConvertKit can work a lot better for that, especially when it comes to like the email marketing kind of stuff. Now Kajabi does advanced automations depending on the plan that you use, and you can definitely do tagging. I do it in my own business depending on what offers or lead magnets people pick up and that kind of stuff. But tools like ActiveCampaign or ConvertKit or other tools that are built for this one specific task— like ConvertKit is only for email marketing, it's not trying to help you build courses and all this other stuff other stuff as well. It's naturally going to excel at that one thing because they're putting all their attention and money into it. One thing that I personally wish Kajabi had was a mind map with your funnel, uh, like a lot of these other tools have. MailChimp is one of them where you can literally lay out everything. It's just like very easily to see and visually compelling. I think that would really step up Kajabi's game. But the cool thing too about Kajabi is that even if you want some kind of feature like that, you can reach out to the Facebook group you can ask Kajabi, hey, do you guys think that you could do this? And then what they do is actually build it if there's enough demand behind it, which is where the Facebook group comes into play. Because if you get enough people raising their hand saying I want this, then Kajabi will see that and they'll actually build it for you. That's something I love about Kajabi is that it is built for content creators by content creators. They really are on your team and want you to win. Now, another thing that Kajabi could work on is their analytics. Kajabi definitely has analytics, but they're super basic and they give you some rough insights. If go into your analytics, you can see quite a bit of information like page views, for example, and it will give you a detailed breakdown of what kind of views you're getting on your content. You can choose which pages you'd like to see, but it's, it's not very robust. I mean, one, for example, is like on my blog post, it says 7,000 views, but I don't know which blog post that is. This is where you'd have to use a third-party tool like Google Analytics like I do which gives you a lot more robust analytics, and you can connect that to your Kajabi site. So if you really wanna get more granular, just use Google Analytics. But I do wish that Kajabi's analytics were a bit more detailed just because it would keep it all under that one umbrella so I wouldn't have to use a third-party tool. So another thing that Kajabi is okay with is affiliate management. Like, yeah, you can have affiliates in Kajabi. It definitely exists as a feature, but it's not really customizable. Especially if you're doing more complex affiliate programs. If you're keeping things pretty basic, which I mean, at the end of the day, affiliate marketing, I feel, doesn't need to be super complicated. If I have my course and I'm like, hey, if you want to promote this to a friend or a family member or someone that you think would get value from it, and then you get a 30% commission, share this link, you can become an affiliate. You could totally do that in Kajabi and it keeps it really simple. But yeah, those really advanced affiliate programs, if you're— that's your entire business, Kajabi might not be the best tool for you. Now they do provide you with a blog. It's something that I I use personally, and it's good enough for simple blogs and, you know, basic content marketing, but there's not a whole lot of customization with the blog feature. There's no advanced SEO tools like Yoast. You can use other third-party tools, obviously. Something I like to use is RankIQ, and then I build my blog post in that, and then I plug it into Kajabi. Yeah, the customization on the blog, really limited. You can change the background and some of the colors and things like that. They don't have a comment section built in for your blog, and you can create a decent blog. You can add pictures and that kind of stuff to it, but it's nothing super fancy. So it's great for basic publishing articles and, you know, updates and that kind of stuff, but it's not really ideal if you're building an SEO-heavy content strategy. I think you'd be better off using a tool like WordPress if you were really serious about that. Also, the email deliverability isn't really the best. It's pretty good for basic kind of lists and stuff. I think if you really wanted to get the best deliverability and more advanced automations and that kind of stuff, that might be better for a different tool. Kajabi's email tool is really basic. It's good for sending out broadcasts. You can do email sequences that are automated when people join your list and things like that. But if you really wanted to maximize deliverability at scale, you might want to get a third-party tool. Kajabi does give you an option where you can actually connect third-party tools to your Kajabi account. Like, for example, if you're using ActiveCampaign, you can connect that to your Kajabi landing pages. I personally only use the Kajabi email tool, and I think it's good enough for what I do. I mean, I keep things really simple on my business, but if you want a really robust and more complex and more advanced email tool, ConvertKit or Kit, ActiveCampaign might be a better option for you. Again, at the end of the day, Kajabi is not perfect, but if you're looking for an all-in-one tool that is just built for simplicity and really just simple effectiveness, Kajabi is an awesome tool for you. Now I wanna talk about the number one mistake that new users make with Kajabi. The first thing that people tend to do is that they get excited about this tool. It's got all this cool features. It's very user-friendly for people and they say, oh, I'm just gonna sign up for it. And then they jump in, they pour weeks, sometimes months like me, into crafting the perfect course, designing the prettiest website possible and setting up all these complex automations but they never really confirm if anybody actually wants what they're selling. You see, Kajabi is a delivery platform. It's not a market research tool. It's built to help you deliver value at scale, but it's not gonna tell you if your offer is solid, if people actually want to buy it, because that part's really on you. So if you skip the validation process and making sure that your product is actually in demand, then you risk building this beautiful product that nobody actually wants. So if you want to have the best foot forward with Kajabi, start with a painful, urgent problem that your audience already knows that they have. And this is where you're gonna build your business around. And then ideally we wanna pre-sell the solution or run a small beta test of some kind to see if people are willing to invest in this solution. Now you can do this before you ever pay for Kajabi just by coaching people through your process one-on-one, because if people would pay you hundreds or thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars to coach them through this process and get this outcome, then yeah, they'd probably sign up for your community or pay for one of your courses that does the same exact thing. It's just a more do-it-yourself version. Bottom line, I want you to make sure that you have something that people actually want and that you're confident in that you know how to speak to them so that they actually buy it. Because once you get clear on that, then and only then, Kajabi is an amazing tool to help you deliver it at scale. So validate first, build later, and that's how you're gonna win with Kajabi. This is why I give you my course when you sign up with my link for Kajabi, because I'm going to walk you through how to do this market research and understand your people and how to build your pages in a way that actually connect with people so that they want to buy from you. The course shortcuts all the unnecessary tinkering and overwhelm from all the features that Kajabi offers because it is a very robust platform. And if you don't really know what you're doing, it can overwhelm you and then you're just like a deer in headlights. So how do you know if Kajabi is right for your business? Well, if you're a coach, a consultant, an author, a public speaker, or an expert of any kind, if you sell knowledge through courses, coaching, memberships, digital products, basically your business revolves around you, your voice, your expertise, your message, then Kajabi was literally built for you. Kajabi's also great for you if you want an all-in-one system. You'd rather manage your website, email, offers, payments, and automations in one place with one username and password instead of duct taping 10 different tools together. You have an offer or at least a clear idea of one and you're you're looking for a platform to deliver it seamlessly, professionally, and at scale. Kajabi's also for you if you value simplicity. You don't want to code, you don't want to troubleshoot plugins, you don't even know what a plugin is, and you definitely don't want to be babysitting tech. Instead, you just want a tool that helps you focus on creating content, serving your audience, and making sales. If any of that sounds like you, then Kajabi is 110% a great tool that you can start using. Now, Kajabi might not be a good fit for you if you need super custom design and really heavy design, you're super techie and want to have control over every tiny little aspect of every little feature, like where you drag buttons and all that kind of stuff. If you really want super deep analytics and data reporting or complex affiliate features, then Kajabi is probably not the best tool for you. That being said, you can definitely use Kajabi for your course hosting or hosting a community or any one of the other tools that you are really attracted to with Kajabi. and you can use third-party tools to connect to your Kajabi site. Kajabi is also not for you if you're on a super tight budget and not really ready to monetize yet, because Kajabi is not going to save you. Now, they do have a much more affordable pricing option, which is their Kickstarter plan at only $89 per month. It's a very lean plan, but it's something that's going to help you get your business off the ground, and you can always upgrade to a different plan when you're making a bit of money. And I wouldn't recommend diving into Kajabi right now if you're still figuring out what you want to sell or who your audience is. Now, I will say that if you do use my link, I'm going to teach you how to do that inside of my Earn Your First $10K with Kajabi course. But it really is so important because Kajabi is just a set of tools. And if you don't know how to use the tools, then Kajabi is not really going to help you. You're going to end up spending a lot of money and not really getting anywhere. But if you watch this video, I'll show you how to do effective market research so you can get a clear idea of who you're helping and what you're helping them do. And then you can dive into Kajabi. If I missed anything in this video and you have more questions about Kajabi, let me know in a comment below. Other than that, I'll see you in the next one.
