Kajabi: Increase Urgency with Countdown Timers

James Allen shows how to set up countdown timers in Kajabi for product launches and promotions. The timers are static to one end date, not per-user like Deadline Funnel, so use them only for real time-bound offers to avoid fake scarcity. He walks through creating events, customizing timer appearance, and embedding them in emails and landing pages.

One of the greatest ways in history to create scarcity with an offer, whether it's a product launch or anything for that matter, is to use a countdown timer where people can tangibly see the amount of time left to claim a special deal. In Kajabi, you can set up your own countdown timers for events, add them to emails, to sales pages, to landing pages, to your website, whatever you want. Today I'm going to walk you through inside the software how to set it all up. If you want to take advantage of a free 30-day trial of Kajabi to play with the platform yourself, you can use my link profityourknowledge.com/kajabi. This is an affiliate link, so I get a small percentage of your investment in Kajabi, but there's no extra cost to you compared to if you went through Kajabi's website yourself. All this does is simply support me and this channel for referring someone to Kajabi. But when you sign up with my link, I'm going to give you instant access to a course I created called Kajabi Kickstart, which is going to help you set up and launch your online business with Kajabi in that first 30 days. On top of that, when you're inside of Kajabi Kickstart, you will have access to a free 45-minute coaching session with me where you and I both get to deep dive into your Kajabi account, and I will be there to answer any questions you have about Kajabi marketing or even making your first sale with the platform. All this is free, and you can get instant access by going to profityourknowledge.com/kajabi or clicking the link down in the description. Without further ado, let's dive into Kajabi. To get started in setting up and building your countdown timer in Kajabi, we want to go down to the marketing tab, and then we need to go to events. So let me show you something before we actually start to build this out. We need to create an event in order to sell a countdown timer, in order to create a countdown timer and add it to our website pages or email sequences or emails themselves. So for example, if we go up here to the website tab, we go down to pages, and let's say landing pages or funnels, website, whatever you want, just pick a page that you want this countdown timer to be visible on. Let's say you're running a, a new promotion, you just created a product and you're like, hey, we're doing our first official launch of this, add the countdown timer to that page. You can go up here to create a new landing page. There's a ton of templates that you can choose from. I'm just gonna use this as the example, the sales page that I built out a while ago. It's just a little template example. But let's say that on this page, this is the sales page you made for that product, and now you would just want to add a countdown timer to it. We're gonna go over here to add section, and then we need to scroll down to event countdown. When you click add, that's gonna add this event here. If I already have all the information on this page, then I'll usually get rid of some of this information that I don't think is really all that necessary. Okay, so as you can see right here, we can't actually see the countdown timer visible because we haven't made an event. Okay, so let's save this real quick. We're going to come right back over to here, but I just want you to see that we can actually get rid of the event too because we just want to keep the countdown timer. There we go. So this is just gonna be our countdown timer that we can have be visible. So we're gonna go back, go back to landing pages. We're gonna go back to the marketing tab. We'll go down to events. We haven't made an event yet, so we'll click get started. And this will be countdown for new launch, we'll say. And then we'll go down here to when does this event occur? So this is going to be the official event. In the case of having a product launch, we'll say if you're sending out a series of emails and you want the countdown timer to be displayed, we want to put in the end date of when this is all going to end, their last chance to take advantage of whatever deal we may have. So let's say that this middle week right here, the 15th to the 19th, you're gonna have be launch week. So that's when you're sending out emails you're promoting this new product. On Saturday at midnight or 12 AM, which would be Friday midnight, the deal ends. The event is over, no more. Okay, you'll click Apply and then we can hit Save. From here it's gonna give you a rundown. You can add some events and that kind of stuff. If you're actually running an event, then you can add these events. I'm just kind of using the example of like if you're gonna do a product launch and you wanna add that countdown timer. Then we make sure everything's set up. We got the right time zone for us. When does this event occur? That's the end date and we have a title for it. So we'll hit save. And then we're gonna go back to that page that I had made earlier where I put the countdown timer on it. Remember we couldn't see the countdown timer. Well, now we'll be able to see it. So we'll scroll down. This is where we had our countdown timer. We can click right here. Then we'll click on countdown again, and now we get to select our event. So now our event is visible. We'll click there, and now you can see. But it gets cooler than that too. Enable countdown action, you can click on that. I don't even know what that does, but you can choose minimal or boxed. I like box personally. I kind of just leave this stuff. Countdown settings, you can change the background. Color if you want it to be red or whatever your color is. I just do like brand colors, you know, so like a blue or something for me. You can change the number color if you wanted, like yellow, whatever you wanted. I keep it very simple personally. I usually just make the background whatever your brand color is. Okay, and then you can change the label color, like the actual days, hours, minutes, seconds. Okay, and you can pretty much customize this and give it the look and feel that you want. You can switch events, whatever you want to do. Let's just say that we like that. What I'll do if it's on a sales page and I'm running a special offer like that is I like to just duplicate it and I kind of put it strategically in different places where I'm like, yeah, you want to, you want to pick this up before the time ends. Yeah, you can change the name of this as well. I want to make sure it's set on that so it's showing. So what's going to happen is as soon as people land on this page, they'll see the timer at the very top. And be like, oh man, like, time's kind of going out. If you wanted to, you could even add a little bit of text here. So you could say something like, offer ends at midnight, and then you could put whatever the date is, you know, on whatever date, and then people can see it. They're like, oh wow, okay. You can format kind of change to center. And then what I'll do too is I'll say like whatever they're getting. If for example, if they're getting a certain amount of money off or a percentage off, like take advantage of 20% off this deal or half off or take advantage of these extra bonuses and just kind of remind them of like what is gonna happen when the countdown timer hits zero, what's gonna go away. All right, but this is a very visible indication that you have a special offer going. Now what's cool too, I'll hit save here, is that you can also add this countdown timer with the same event that we created inside of an email campaign. So we'll go new campaign, broadcast, okay, and let's just say, usually, like, I like to keep a very simple template, so this is like a little weekly YouTube video template that I made. There's a ton of different ones you can choose here that already have a countdown timer put inside of them, and you can just add your event if you want, Or you can build them completely from scratch, announce an event. Let's just say simple text. We'll say countdown example for right now. Okay, we'll go over to edit content and then we can click on the content. And let's say that you're talking about, you know, this product launch that you have going off and that you want to add the event countdown right here. You can select your event. Countdown for new launch. And then in here you will have to customize the look and feel of it again. I usually just make it once. I'll save this as a template, uh, if I'm doing a launch, which I can show you in just a sec. But yeah, you can kind of customize it. It's the same thing as before. Just kind of play with the, the settings that we have here. And we could put it at the top and you could put it down at the bottom as well if you want to duplicate that countdown timer. Or maybe you wanna have some text and then you kinda have it a little bit later in the text, it's up to you, and then they can click here to buy now and you can really customize the whole look and feel of the email. So hit save. And go back. And when you have your email set up, if you wanna have like the countdown at the top, countdown at the bottom, and you're gonna be sending out a series of these emails over the course of that week, and you don't wanna have to keep adding, clicking all these buttons to do it, then you can just click save as a template. And say something like event countdown or countdown email for whatever product it is, launch that you're doing, and then click create. And that's where you'll be able to, to see this. Let me click over here. If you go to new campaign, when you build out a new one, you'll be able to see that up here as your saved custom template. So you can just click that and then you'll have your, you'll have the countdown timers and everything already set, so you can just change out the text however you please or move them around, whatever you wanna do. Just a couple different little ways that you can play with countdown timers. One thing to note is that Kajabi does not have a feature where if somebody opts in for a program, or opts in for like a lead magnet, let's say you're hosting an automated workshop or you have a free guide or some sort of freebie, if someone clicks on that and then they go inside your email sequence, you can't create an auto-populated countdown timer like Deadline Funnel, if you're familiar, where, you know, after they go through your, your funnel, basically, then automatically it's going to say, hey, you only have 3 days left to make a decision and buy this. Technically, that is fake scarcity, and I kind of like figured that out a little bit of the hard way. Some people were like, no, you can't do it, you shouldn't do that. And I do agree because, you know, if I am a customer of yours and I can just log in to one email and then I see this special deal and then it goes away for me, I could just use a different email or create a new email and then log in and get that special deal again. So it's not like, it's not real scarcity, okay? This is a bit of a debate for a different time, I would say. Or we can debate now if you wanna let me know down in the comments what you think about countdown timers in general. So Kajabi only has the feature where you have to create an event. It has to have a specific end date, and then once that end date is over, then the countdown timer ends. As far as I know right now, there is no way to create an automated countdown timer, and it does kind of spill into that fake scarcity aspect of building your business, which in my opinion isn't the way to go. Authentic, real relationships is what we want to go for. So the only time I really use countdown timers in my business is if I'm doing a product launch, like I showed you how to set it up. On the sales page, I'll say, hey, you have X amount of time to pick up this special deal, here's what you're gonna get inside of it, and I put it into my emails. Like, for one week, I'll just be heavily promoting a product of like, this is what you're gonna get, and there's only a limited amount of time, and once that countdown timer hits zero, they lose that opportunity. And it's not like they can just use a new email and find the opportunity again. Like, when it ends, it ends. And that's real scarcity, that's genuine, ethical scarcity. Okay, so just be aware about countdown timers. There are ways to use Deadline Funnel in Kajabi. People do it all the time. Um, you'd have to pay for Deadline Funnel separate from Kajabi. But yeah, that's just kind of a rundown of how countdown timers work, how you can apply them to your email campaigns, and how you can apply them to different website pages as well. Kajabi makes it super easy. You just have to make sure you get the time right in the event. Now, if you're considering trying out Kajabi yourself, the best way to see if it really is a good fit for you is to give it a shot with your hands.
