Kajabi Tutorial: Bulk Importing Contacts Made Easy

If you're thinking about moving your email list over to Kajabi, or maybe you spoke at an event and you want to take the list of emails that you got and bulk import them into Kajabi, I'm gonna show you how to do that in today's video. Kajabi makes this super easy, and to give you a real tangible example, I actually spoke at an online summit recently, and the promoter, the owner of the summit, they sent out an email of a CSV file, big spreadsheet filled with information from people that attended the event and that gave us permission to share their email with the speakers. So I'm going to show you the process of importing a CSV file, and then I'll show you what I like to do in terms of tagging these people so I can kind of organize the emails that I send, and then even sending them an email welcoming them, uh, to my email list. So the first thing we wanna do is go over to our little dashboard, go to contacts, and then this will give you your main page. We wanna go to add contacts and then choose import CSV. Now if you're using a tool like Mailchimp or ConvertKit and you're gonna move that over to Kajabi, you'll wanna go into whatever tool you're using, find your email list, and there's usually a spot where you can export a CSV file, and that's gonna give you a big spreadsheet like this with the contact ID, first name, last name, business name, company name, email, additional emails, whatever information you have set for your contacts in your email list, and it will compile all that stuff into either an Excel or a Google spreadsheet, and that is going to turn into your CSV. So what I do is I put them into my Google Drive, and this is saved to my computer as well. I like to just keep it on hand and I'm gonna organize that in a little bit. From here, we're gonna upload a file, upload any CSV file. Click on that and give you an option to select your file. Once that's uploaded, you can see the name right here. We will click continue to upload. After this, you're gonna get into your map columns. So Kajabi will recognize or not recognize different columns. and depending on what the CSV columns are, you can, you can update this information. So contact ID, I don't think I really need that, so I'll say skip column. First name, I'm gonna wanna keep that, so I'll choose existing field name and then confirm. Business name, I can skip that one 'cause there's not a lot of information there. Since I do already have their name in use, I'm just gonna skip the last name column. Not the end of the world. Okay, so once everything's set up, this button at the bottom, continue to import contacts, will now be available for you, so I'll click on that. So then we move on to the next step, bulk actions. How do you want to import your contacts? You can grant them an offer if you wanna give them a free course or community access or anything like that, add tags, and then subscribe to marketing emails. Now these people did give me permission to use their emails and subscribe to marketing emails, so I'm gonna check that box. I'm also gonna add a tag. So here we can pick different tags that we already have, or we can always add a new tag. I'll call this coaching summit attendees 2024. Right here we can add a new tag. So anytime I send them an email, uh, or send an email and I just want it to go to these people, like a welcome email, I can make sure that they have that correct tag. So once this is all set up, you're happy with it, then we can click continue to summary, give you a quick rundown of everything, confirm import. Once you've imported your contacts, we can go to email campaigns and click on new email campaign, click broadcast and continue. From here, you can choose one of the templates that you'd like to use. I already have a couple of custom templates. I'm gonna send 'em this one, get started. And for right now, I'll just call this welcome. This is where you can choose whichever contacts you want to have receive this broadcast email. So what I'm gonna do, is go to custom segment, select a filter, and I'm going to find tag filters. Oh, I only wanna send an email to people who have any of these tags. So I'll click here and we're gonna find summit attendees. Cool. Click apply. That's only these people. So there's 47 subscribers that I'm gonna send this email to. We'll click save and continue. And then we can customize the content, the subject line, preview text, all this stuff. So we'll go edit content. So I'm gonna write up an email to send to these people and I'm going to give them access to my YouTube masterclass. I'll put a link down in the description if you wanna check this out yourself. But yeah, it's the same exact system that I was using and still do to this day to make thousands of dollars from my tiny YouTube channel of only 200 subscribers. So I just finished up writing my email and this is an example of something that you can do that's similar, really just be you and just kind of explain the situation. It's really simple. I said, hey, first name, that'll automatically put in their first name based on the information from the CSV file. My name is James Allen. I recently presented at Elaine's Coaching Summit. And spoke about how we can use YouTube to grow our businesses. Elaine sent me an email that you gave permission to share your email with the speakers. So I'll click confirm and voila. Now 47 emails have just been sent and there you have it. That is how you bulk import contacts into Kajabi. So again, if you have a big list on a different platform like MailChimp or ConvertKit or ActiveCampaign or anything else, you want to move it over to Kajabi, it's the same process. Maybe you won't send a fresh email like that. That's an example of what I like to do when I speak at a different summit and I get this opportunity where people are like, yeah, you can share my email, no worries. So I figured, why not? I'll give it a shot, give them something awesome as a kind of welcoming gift, and then hopefully that can lead to a good relationship with these 47 new people in my case.
