What No One Tells You About Starting an Online Business

Hey friend, James here with ProfitYourKnowledge.com. Today I want to share with you what no one really tells you about starting an online business, or most importantly, what no one really shows you about starting their own online business. And I think that what it is is really just people not sharing who they truly are, because when it comes to being online and starting an online business, especially when you're teaching things, you want to be seen as an expert. You want to be seen as you know, the authority in your space. And by wanting to show you that I'm credible, that, you know, I know what I'm talking about, people tend to act in a different way and not be as authentic when creating content and sharing things online. Like, even if you think about people who say, oh, I made $50,000 this month or this week in a launch or product launch or something, The truth is that like they may not have actually made $50,000. They probably made a lot less because you don't know how much money they actually spent in acquiring that $50,000. So what was their real profit, their take-home? I mean, this is the idea is that you don't, you don't really know where anyone's really at in terms of their own online business. And doesn't matter what niche it is, doesn't just mean that it's making money or anything like that. It can be a fitness coach or a relationship coach and I think like the biggest thing that I want you to really get from today, or what I know is the biggest thing, is to be more authentic in your own online business when you're creating content, when you're getting out there, especially when you're on YouTube. Even if you're sharing facts and strategies or tactics to achieve a specific goal, whatever that may be, just really show who you actually are. And one of the biggest ways that I haven't actually done that myself in the past couple years is if you notice when in like my content, like prior to this piece of content anyway, I've had a black backdrop or black background and it looks a lot cleaner than being in my old room, which is the room that I'm in right now. Here's just a quick little tour. There's a kitchen right here, there's a bathroom right down there, and then this is like the living room space. Work office, and that's the black backdrop right there. Now what's funny about this is that me actually sharing this piece of content is kind of nerve-wracking, but it's a challenge for myself because what I want to do in 2023 and what I'm going to do is share a lot more of me authentically instead of just teaching facts and strategies and things. I'm still going to teach those things because that's how we grow our online business. But what I want you to know is that I'm not perfect. I'm a human just like anybody else. And fun little story about this place. Is that I built this in, uh, like, I don't know, 5 years ago or something. I was in construction and I was like 22 years old and I built this house. It was a crazy project that I did. Don't judge me on the color choice of red, white, and blue. People do. Don't judge me. I'm patriotic, let me say that. Um, that's just what I tell people. But yeah, I built this place and it was really my starting ground for starting my online business because at the time of building it I had a completely different path and then I started my online business and started getting serious about it. I had so many failures inside this room, so many times where I wanted to quit starting or like continuing online business and just going to like be a firefighter or do something else. Sorry, that was my dog Stitch. Um, but yeah, I just had to like— I had so many challenges inside this room and so many great wins as well. But right now it's a total mess, FYI, because my girlfriend and I actually are moving into a bigger place, and we have been moving the last couple weeks throughout January and whatnot. And the bigger reason why we're actually moving into that place is because of my online business, because I've been able to make more money in my life with my online business instead of just working different jobs. So it's been truly incredible. I mean, even this desk is where I had like my first sales calls or one of my first sales calls. I even had my first like $10,000 sales call there. My $5,000 call, my first online like digital product sale in passive income was sitting at that desk, which is incredible. And it's just been able to build momentum and propel since then. But Basically, yeah, I just, I wanted to share this with you because like people have questioned the black backdrop. It's because I didn't want to have like my room, you know, just right here. Sometimes my girlfriend would be hanging out sitting on the bed and I'm over like making content or filming something. And that's why I've had the black backdrop. It's kind of like hide it. But after today, now that we're moving into a bigger place, I get my own office, which is like the coolest thing in the world to me. I'm so pumped and I'm really excited about how it's going to look. I've been planning it and painting, and that's why last— like, all of January I've basically scheduled all this content out, uh, to really just focus on moving in, getting settled in the new office so I can pick it back up in February in the new, uh, in the new place. And there's gonna be more content like this, kind of vlog style, throughout the year in 2023 because I want to show you more of like my, like, habits, my routines, those kind of things. My morning routine, I want to make a video like that, like what my new office setup when I get it all situated, and just show you more of me. And that's really what I wanted you to get from today, but I hope that inspires you to do the same thing for starting your own online business or being in your own online business. But it really— what I really want you to take away from this is that no one wants to share with you, uh, the awkwardness of having a black background to like hide your tiny little house, um, in terms of growing their own business. No one wants to share with you the real them and like what's really happening behind the scenes. And I think that it's so important because there's so much content being put into the world now that that's how we actually connect with people is by being authentic and by being truly ourselves.
