Hear me? Thank you for coming. You can hear me. All right, I won't worry about that anymore. Thank you for coming. Ramit's book launch party. I'm Ramit's roommate and we're here to congratulate him because his book actually made it to number one on Amazon. And he puts me to pass it for you now.
Oh, all right, go ahead. Thanks, Julie. I'm really glad you guys came. Thank you for coming. I couldn't have gotten anywhere especially number one on Amazon if you guys hadn't been reading the blog or buying the book or telling your friends or anything. So I really, really appreciate it. As I was coming over in the taxi on the way here, I had a cover of my book, which of course I carry with me everywhere I go. Putting the shower now. And I was thinking back to the first time I saw that cover, and it was about a year ago. My publisher sent me a PDF of the COVID and they didn't have my photo, so they sent a stock photo of an Indian guy saying. And they said, take a look. What do you think? And then a couple weeks later, I get this frantic phone call and they said, we need you to take a photo to put it on the COVID Don't worry about the professionalism. We'll do that for the real cover later. But we need to get this reader, which is this little 20 page thing. And so Jen, my beautiful girlfriend, she came over and she sat me down on the kitchen floor and she took like 70 photos of me, sent it off, publisher was happy. And a couple days later, I get this reader in the mail. It's just for salespeople and looking at it. Looks good, looks good. And then I look a little closer and I said, wait a minute, I wasn't wearing a watch in my photo. And then I said, wait a minute, my arms are hairier than these are. And then I said, what the hell? I'm not wearing a wedding ring. And that was when I realized they put my head on the model's body. My introduction to the daily humility of writing a book. But anyway, like I said, I'm glad you guys are here. I think like 20% of the stories in the book are about you guys. So try to find out which ones are you.
The other 80% are about me.
Yeah, exactly. You know, I think in all seriousness, the reason I wrote the book was I was tired of personal finance experts thinking about money as, no, no, no, Right? No, you can't buy lattes. No, you can't buy those jeans. No, you can't go on vacation. And I thought, surely there's got to be a better way to live your life saying yes. So that's why I wrote the book. That's why I taught people how to negotiate like an Indian.
And.
I do want to tell you guys one thing that nobody in this room knows yet. So yesterday I got a call from my publisher, and as of less than 24 hours ago, I Will Teach youh Be Rich is a New York Times bestseller.
So thank you, guys.
Thank you guys.
And let's do the best. Woo. Woo. Awesome. Now for the real reason why you're all here.
I thought it was the free drink.
Oh, yeah. Well, not. Yeah, I can't compare. So what's first? Should we give away the Kindle first or the iPhone first?
Let's do the iPhone first.
All right. Hope I don't pick the name of someone who already has one. I will hate you.
Okay.
Can't read the handwriting, so.
No, just kidding. Take it.
You give it to someone. Let someone else have it.
I'll do it. I can unlock it. That's true. I can unlock it.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.
You have something for him?
Yeah. Yeah. We have a card for you. One second.
Good for you. What is it? IPhone. What a waste. All right. In the Kindle. Jim Blomo. Jim Blomo. Jim Lo. Is one of these former roommates just a coincidence?
Congratulations. Congratulations. Yeah.
All right. Thank you for coming. That's it. And the DJ is going to thank you.
