Short YouTube interview excerpt where Ramit Sethi asks Liz how reading his book changed her behavior. Liz says she immediately canceled her cable bill and her gym membership, kept Netflix, and estimates saving roughly $100 per month ("over a thousand bucks a year"). She explains she realized she wasn't using cable and that Netflix covered her movie watching needs.
Questions this video answers
Her cable bill and her gym membership.
About $100 per month (roughly).
Over $1,000 a year.
Netflix (she watches a lot of movies on it).
All right. Hi. What's your name?
Hi. My name is Liz.
All right, Liz. So you were just telling me about how you read my book, and then you decided to take some action from it.
I did. Right away. I canceled my cable bill and my gym membership.
So how much are you saving now?
100 bucks a month, roughly.
So, like, over a thousand bucks a year.
Over a thousand bucks a year.
So how come so many people think that there's no way for them to save money? Like, they think they've cut to the bone. Like, what was the difference for you? Why were you able to go and cancel something?
Well, because you talked about what are things you're spending money on that you're not using, which is different than buying stuff that you want, because I definitely still like to shop and go out to eat. But that's something that. Where you're like, well, I want this, so I'm gonna get it. Whereas I looked at my cable bill, and I thought, well, wait a minute. I'm not really watching very much of this. I realized I was paying for cable, but everything I watched was on regular tv or I was watching movies on Netflix, which is an additional subscription subscription, which I didn't cancel, but I looked at the Netflix and calculated, am I saving money by having this, or should I go to Blockbuster? And I realized I was saving money because I do watch a lot of movies.
So you got conscious about all this stuff.
So even though I kept a subscription, you were talking about cancel all your subscriptions. Even though I kept one, I got conscious about the fact that I was actually saving money instead of just on autopilot with it.
