A man describes the emotional weight of not being able to afford what wealthier families give their kids, and how providing for his family is core to who he is. He wants to retire without needing a job, and says he's taught his children values and practical skills.
We are surrounded by seven and eight digit earners when they find out that their friends are going here and they're like hey, can we go do that? I'm like no, we can't afford to do that. And as a father, as a provider of the family, it touches me to the very like core of a man. Right. And provider and a patriarch of like you should never have to say that. And so that is, that is one of my daily drivers. Like, no, like make this a thing like make a W2 not required when you retire so you don't have to say that to your kids.
Would you say that you taught them good values?
Yes.
Would you say that you've taught them how to make their way in the world?
Yes.
So I don't think they need seven figures. I think that probably the most valuable thing you've given them is a house with two parents who love them. And the money part, as you said, it's not the end all be all.
