Ramit Sethi explains why he avoids politics: it rarely changes minds, and he'd rather focus on what people can control, like career skills and habits. He keeps certain topics private to avoid unproductive arguments and stays focused on psychology, business, and excellence.
Chapters
Hey guys, Ramit Sethi here. I'm getting a lot of questions about what do I think about what's going on politically. Do I have any strong views? Of course I have really strong views. I spend tons of time reading politics every single day. But I haven't talked about it on IWT and I don't plan to. And I wanted to tell you why. See, first I just ask you, when was the last time you actually changed your perspective in reading something online? It's hard enough to get people to change their view about careers or losing weight or business or even scientific facts, much less politics. The next thing is I'm just built to focus on the things that we can control. So you can't control what somebody else thinks about you, but you can control the way you interview in a job interview. And that's what I focus on. And the last thing is, the best gift I ever gave myself was not having to argue with ignorant political morons online who don't know anything but truly believe that they're right. Oh, my beliefs are so important. So when you come to iwt, you're not going to read about politics. You're most not going to read about my personal relationships. Those are a couple things I keep private. But you will read about psychology, business, entrepreneurship and excellence. So I hope you guys can respect that. And I wanted to take a second to explain why I don't write about politics.
